Newbie!
Dear Newbie, My first car was a 240z matter of fact it was purchased for me when I was thirteen and was forced to just stare at it until I turn 16, but It was worth it. Having an older 240z is helpful in several reasons at a young age. 1. I am now currently 21 and only pay 48 dollars a month on insurance for the car and that is full coverage will also a stereo policy of up to 3000 dollars, not bad considering my age. I am not sure of the year you plan to buy but I have a 72 and when I was 16 it was 25 years old and was able to get antique insurance, so I had a sporty car with like only 40 dollars a month. 2. Also I have posted about this in the discussions but the chicks at school loved the car, especially after it was painted. 3. This car was rather cheap to fix. However it was old and only purchased for 300 bucks so it was in bad shape so I spent alot on it. I would suggest that you get an older z. Maybe not as old as mine but maybe a 78 through 83 they are pretty much that same mechanics and cheap to purchase and fix, plus they have plenty of power but not so much that your parents will get worried. The insurance would be cheap on the older car. Plus the chicks dig it. My two cents. Frankenstein Z

replacing floors with new sheetmetal
Msa sells floor panels for like a 100 a piece. I would just buy them it is going to be easier then having to cut the metal and these will fit right in. I myself just sheet metaled over the rust holes but im broke. If I were you I would buy the floor panels and just get a buddy or some one with a spot welder to weld it in. The shop will probably charge alot to take out the old floor boards and cut new ones to put them in. Frankenstein Z

bling bling but no blink blink
My blinks don't work but the hazards do. They seem to have a bad connection but I can't find it. Even when they did come on they never blinked, I would have to do it manually while driving :classic: . Since that flashers work I am guessing the problem lies in the dash somewhere, or in the steering column. Does this problem sound familiar. I know it can't be the turn signal because I just got it, along with the ignition. ??? Frankenstein Z

Major structural rust problem! HELP!
I hate to take advantage of someone else's troubles but my car has the same problem about to occur. Now that I know how much trouble it is to fix I am not go to take the car out of the garage until I get somebody with a spot welder over here to fix it. Sorry about your luck. Frankenstein Z

Performance coil
Im not saying your wrong but I ordered all of this stuff through motorsports and they never said anything about me needing a ignition system. I have also seen several people online with performance coils and not the whole system. I will give them a call monday and find out whats the deal. Frankenstein Z

Performance coil
So you don't think it will work with the new dizzy either. If not what else do I have to buy? Frankenstein Z

Performance coil
I have been running on my stock coil without a ballast resistor for awhile and had no problems. This weekend I then changed out the plugs, wires and coil. It is a performance crane ps 60 coil with ngk plugs and 8mm performance taylor plug wires. However the car runs like crap with the new coil in so I put the old stock coil in its place and the car runs fine so it can't be the wires or plugs that are making it run bad. I even tried running the new coil with the ballast resistor and had the same problem. I am aware of the 1280 module for going from points to electric and I have it coming with the distributor but those canadians that i got the parts from are taking forever to get it here. I am hoping this newer dizzy fixes my problem but Im not sure it will. Frankenstein Z

Performance coil
Alright I spoke to soon. I had put this in the forum to soon. I had the performance coil wires and plugs put in but hadn't turned the car on yet to make sure it ran. Well it runs like crap. It keeps missing and it back fired once or twice, also some fluid leaked out of the new coil not much but noticeable. So I with the ballast resistor off I put on the old coil in place of the new one and it ran fine, so this mean my wires, and plugs are good. I then hooked back up my ballast resistor and the new coil, it did the same thing as before back fired once or twice and ran like crap. Anyone got a clue? I am awaiting for the arrival of a used distributor from a 280z so I can change from points to electric but it hasn't arrived yet. Maybe this will fix my problem. Well I will post if it does or doesn't. Thanks as always for the info. Frankenstein Z

Performance coil
Oh I forgot it is a 72' 240z. Frankenstein Z

Performance coil
I am running a performance coil and I took out the ballast resistor and just connnected the wires from the opposite sides of resistor together. I was told by a friend this would ruin the coil is this true? I have been awaiting a 280z electronic distributor to put in but it is yet to arrive. Frankenstein Z

a little leak
Alright thanks for the help I will try refitting the valve cover. Frankenstein Z

Will this work?
I really have a 240z e88 engine it got confused but the conversation did answer my question. I am trying to increase the hp in my 240z and a 150 bucks didn't sound to expensive for a P-90 which I thought would work on my Z and you confirmed it would. Is there another route for around a 100 bucks that would make an sizable increase in Hp. Frankenstein Z

a little leak
I have other signs that I could have a head gasket problem, so that could be a possibility. I will try to redue putting on the valve cover, its worth a shot. Thanks so much for the input. Frankenstein Z

Will this work?
So does that make it diffcult to put a turbo on an n47 head with the different exhaust ports? Frankenstein Z

Will this work?
Hey does anybody know if headers for a 74 260z datsun will fit on a N47 head from a 78 280z. Thanks Frankenstein Z

a little leak
I don't believe so. I dont see any leaks on the valve cover gasket and I just put one on not to long ago. Frankenstein Z

a little leak
I have them ordered and am waiting to put new ones in. When I took them out they just look like they had gotten really hot but I think that was because I had an overheating problem a while back. I have torqued down the plugs good but still got this leak. Frankenstein Z

a little leak
Hey I checked out my spark plugs yesterday and saw that the # 5 spark plug is leaking oil around where the spark plug goes into the block what is this a sign of? Frankenstein Z

just when you think you've seen it all...
I think the first thing I would do would be to remove the driver's seat and get a new one. Never seen that before. Frankenstein Z

New distributor install
Okay I have been asking around about putting in a 80' 280z distributor in a 72 240z. I am putting in the ps60 crane coil out of MSA, spark plugs, wires, all along with the 80 distributor and the 1280 module. I have had several people tell me that they had no problem. They just attached the tach to the new coil and took the ballast out and just connected the wires on opposite sides of it. Pretty much just follow thehttp://www.geocities.com/zgarage2001/engine.html link. The part about installing the distributor is about a half of the way down. In the picture its show a performance coil getting hooked in with the newer distributor. At the end of the section it says however not to hook up the tach to this coil because it will fry the old tach. Is this true? According to some of the people I talk to there is no problem just hooking everything up as long as you have your wires right. I then talked to a member to day and he said, he has made this install on several cars and the tach has never worked after he installed the newer distributor. He also said there is an adapter through msa that could make the old tach work but he has never tried it. Sorry wanting to be so specific on this but I just wanted to make sure I did not ruin anything and that I did it right. Please somebody straighten me out. Frankenstein Z

Air Dams, Spoilers and Exhaust Fumes
I get the same thing with my girlfriend's (plural). HAHAHAAAH I wish. Seems none of my friends mind riding in fumes. I have had the seals on my list for a while, but to tell you the truth I kinda like it. Those combined with the half rusted exhaust, and less then quiet interior, make for an almost nascar experience. Frankenstein Z

Nipple
Does anyone know where I can find the right rear nipple bleeder for a datsun 240z, without having to buy the whole cylinder. One of the previous owners broke mine off. I am betting thats where all the air is in my lines, and the reason for me having to pump my brakes. Let me know Frankenstein Z
