I have a L28 engine at my deposal and I know that if it is good it is 25 more horsepower than the L24 engine. The stock 240z is 150 horse power at the flywheel and 120 at the wheel. The 280zx is 145 at the wheel smogged out with the emission crap probably 180 at the flywheel. The 75 z L28 is 135 horsepower and 170 at the flywheel.

No Mike, but this (left hand drive, not right) from japan Z is the ultimate fantasy. You will be all day looking at the detailed pictures from the interior, engine, underneath and out. I will attach the link later. I will post a picture of mine when I finish the L28 conversion.
  4. Since you are a chevy guy by nature you might come out better converting it to a chevy V-8. It may be cheaper in the long run and faster.

If I had a opportunity to buy a early z and I had a SHO. I would take that japanese engine out of the SHO and drop it in the Z. I know that the SHO is a front wheel drive engine but you can get a rear wheel drive tranny for it.

I love the crap out of rally racing. If I would use a Z car it would be a 73 model 240z because the gauge of the panels are a little thicker. Also I think that it would be the perfect motorsport for those rusted out 240z's because if you wreck there is really no lost ().

The fantasy Z I would buy for $35,000 will have rear wheel drive first of all and a DOHC intercooled supercharged power plant capable of 300 horsepower at the wheels. Red line 8500 rpm. It would be made of all stainless steel body panels and max weight of 2800lbs. It would have aluminum wheels, rear racing wing. Absolutely NO electric mirrors, windows, cruise control, rear wiper, electric antenna,or power steering. A/C will be the only option. "BUILD IT THEY WILL COME." Maybe this is why the 240z was so popular it had manual everything and none of the luxury crap. I am curious if any of you guys would want a new Z like the one I described.
  8. Sounds like the throw out bearing. Its not expensive! What happens is that the bearing is cold and doesn't move around too much.(A new bearing hardly spins.) When it gets warm it starts to spin loose especially when its worn out. It makes shifting difficult and it sucks. You will have to remove the transmission to change it though.

I would go with a L18 or a L20 engine from a early datsun pickup. There are still alot of high performance parts for this engine and alot of guys with 510's have them also. I have heard of getting about 200 horsepower or better naturally aspirated. The plus side is that you don't have to change the transmission because all L series engines bolt up to it. If you want any references E-mail me

There was an automatic offered for the 240z final drive was 3.545. Automatics are more consistent in dragracing and sticks are great for the circle track and autocross.

If these are the bumpers that I saw in Motorsport Auto they are fiberglass and there is a different part no. for the mounting brackets.

It may idle a little higher because of less drag. You will gain a little more horsepower also.

Sky is the limit in diameter rim ,but tires size should be the correct diameter as the stock tire combo or the speedometer will be off. http://robrobinette.com/tire_diameter.htm [This message has been edited by ninja240z (edited 03-02-2001).] [This message has been edited by ninja240z (edited 03-05-2001).]

  16. I would pay about $1200 considering it gets hot and the body is fairly nice. There are a lot of companies that specialize in parts for these cars. The 240Z is becoming a coveted car now because of its light weight and all around performance. They can consume time and money, but pays off in the end. It is like having second girl friend. If you are going to restore it you are going to pay some cash and if you drive it everday for fun very inexpensive no different in maintenance then any other sports car. I would get it if I were you. ------------------ Here he comes, here comes speed racer he's a demon on wheels!!!!!

I could not find any sources that had the strut support part of the fender, not saying that they are not for sale new ,but I don't see why you cannot go to a auto salvage to cut out that part you need and reweld. Or maybe some z-car specialty salvage for the part. I did find this maybe it be fabricated.//www.arizonazcar.com/fender.html ------------------ Here he comes, here comes speed racer he's a demon on wheels!!!!!

Ok friend in the exact order of your request! (1) 2400cc inline 6 cylinder. (2) 150 brake horse power at 6,000 rpm . and 148 foot pounds of torque at 4,400 rpm. (3) 2,355lbs (4) It is a true difinition of a sports car. (5) I rather use the word dislike because hate is a ugly word to decribe the 240z. It can be rust prone if not treated properly. Ok, now the add on stuff. {This car seems to have a excellent following. I have wanted one since I could drive. There is no substitute for the price. Lots of aftermaket parts and clubs. I have owned a TRIUMPH TR7, FIAT's X19 & 124 spider, 2 MGBs , 2 RX7s , HONDA's prelude & CRX , 2 CELICAS,and 1 CONQUEST. I tell you partner that these vehicles had there day in shade, but there is no substitute for 240z!!!!! :} ------------------ Here he comes, here comes speed racer he's a demon on wheels!!!!!

Personally if I were going to use other than the original seats and had access to the cars you named, I would stay loyal and go with the nissan maxima seats. Just do a little measuring across the back rail of the seats. Sometimes if you cant fabricate the brackets you may change out the original seat brackets which are a pain. I don't know if you are looking for luxury comfort or just need seats, but summit racing has some really nice sport seats different colors with universal seat brackets. ------------------ Here he comes, here comes speed racer he's a demon on wheels!!!!!
