Suspension Redo!
Patcon I'm not sure. When you say loaded I assume you mean assembled on the car and on the ground?

Suspension Redo!
I have been dealing with a ride height issue for some time now and I just installed the I just installed Eibach's springs Tokicos HP Blues last weekend (well I had someone else install them). More to come on this later... My 240Z is a complete is a complete nut and bolt restoration. All stock no mods. The entire suspension is brand new, and I mean everything. But when the suspension was assembled the first time I had them put the original springs back in hoping to maintain the stock ride height. The first struts I installed at the time were KYB's. After everything settled I found that the rear was sagging and also lifting the front of the car up at the same time. I figured I made a mistake by putting in the tired 45 year old springs. Fast forward to last week. I had my springs and struts replaced with the Eibach and Tokicos. First I must say that the ride is so much better than my original springs and KYB's. It's like night and day. Soft for every day driving but quickly tighten up when you give it throttle or dive in to a corner. My problem now is the car still sags in the rear. It's better than it was but still noticeable. I don't know what to do now because everything that can be replaced has been replaced. My only thought is that maybe the upper strut spacers were never installed originally because the original rubber spacers were bonded to the inside of the upper insulators) (FYI fronts have bearings instead of spacers). I know I purchased poly replacement spacers from MSA but there's a possibility they were never installed. The only way to find out is to drop the suspension again and remove the insulator from the spring assembly. So that's where I'm at. I was going to take pictures tomorrow of how she sits. If I stop hard when I park it levels out a little more but I don't want to keep doing that. It's embarrassing. If the spacers are in fact in there I may just swap the rear insulators out for the 280Z version which are 3/4"-1" taller. Sorry for the lengthy post. I'm interested to see how everything works out for you. And yes, 1's in front and 2's in the rear and they should be installed with the text on the spring facing up like normal. For the HP struts it's the same thing except 3's and 5's I think. Smaller number goes in front. Matt

Cam drive and lube
I second Mark's suggestion and have read a lot of posts where paper gaskets come in handy for the applications Mark listed above. Cereal box is probably perfect but any thin piece of cardboard will suffice. Matt

Feedback requested on this Fujitubo exhaust system
I have this setup but I'm away until next week. I can report with pics when I return. Long story short it fits and sounds awesome. Not loud at all until you punch the throttle but even then it's not obnoxious loud and has a good tone. It would sound even better but I have it hooked up to the stock manifold. Matt

240z fuel and brake line insulator sets and steering rack expansion reservoir
I'm pretty sure my speedo grommet is different. It looks like a standard grommet not extruded like that. I'll take a picture of my old speedo cable w/grommet when I get home.

240z fuel and brake line insulator sets and steering rack expansion reservoir
Jim I was just about to post this but you beat me to it! I second the speedo cable grommet. They can't be purchased separately from anywhere I know of and the reproduction speedo cables don't come with it. The only problem I see it that the grommet would need to be sliced and glued back together once installed because the speedo cable can't be disassembled to slide it on. Many great items from you Steve! Expect a long Christmas list shortly (but don't worry it doesn't have to be delivered by Christmas).

240Z 4-Speed Transmission Noise
What bearings? The rear housing was taken apart and spun by the transmission shop and they said everything was in good shape.

240Z 4-Speed Transmission Noise
Can anyone help identify the noise coming from my 240Z type "b" 4-speed transmission. Attached is a video. As you can hear there is a rattling that slows and comes to a stop when I depress the clutch pedal. The rattle speeds up at the end of the video when I give it some throttle in neutral. The transmission also sounds a little raspy through the first couple of gears. Don't mind my high idle I still needed to tune the carbs when this video was shot. Some background: Don't know if it matters but my 5/71 was supposed to come with a type "a" 4-speed but one of the previous owner swapped it out with a type "b" for reasons I don't know. I also know the previous owners "friend" swapped out the clutch which my shop confirmed was new. Not sure if he took any shortcuts when he did so. The car was recently restored and I can't remember if the noise was there before I dropped it off. It came from CA to NY and I didn't get to drive it much before I started to disassemble the car. There was a similar video posted by a NY z club member and the issue turned out to be a loose flywheel bolt. My shop picked up the car after I showed them the video and they brought it to their transmission specialist. He first suspected that it may be a chipped tooth on one of the gears but after he opened up the rear housing everything looked to be in good shape. Does this sound like a flywheel or clutch issue? <iframe width="960" height="720" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/vBG6JJpFDlw?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

240z seat belt center console strap
Ok thanks for the picture! Does anyone know if these came on the earlier non retractable seat belts? Matt
-
240z seat belt center console strap
But your 73 should have retractables with the stiffer lap belt female receptacle, correct?
-
240z seat belt center console strap
I'm having a hard time finding any information or pictures of the seat belt strap that secures to one of the screws underneath the center console. MSA sells a reproduction. What years did these come factory on? Are the straps supposed to angle back or angle forward?

Upper corner door seal picture please
I think I understand it verbally from this thread...http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/body-paint-s30/25997-fitting-upper-corner-seals.html but would still like to see some pictures if anyone has a chance. Thanks!

Upper corner door seal picture please
It seams that no matter how many pictures I take I am always missing the one I need. I'm installing all of my weatherstripping and seals and I was hoping someone can post some pictures of how the upper corner door seals are glued on? I'm having trouble figuring out the positioning. A picture of the rubber is attached so you know what I'm talking about. Thanks as always! Matt

The plates measure 1/16" x 4-1/8" x 1-7/8" or in mm they measure 1.5mm x 104mm x 48mm. The holes are 7/16" or 11mm. Matt

Help Identifying Parts
Can anyone tell me if they know what these two oval plates are from. They were in a box of old suspension components. They are about 1/16" thick and approximately 4" long. Thanks, Matt

Original Steel Wheels
Hi Carl. Yes, I was the one who bought Steve Prefontaine's 240Z (although that was not the reason I bought it). I do have other information about that claim though after speaking with Paul's sister and mother. Is there anything that you know about the car or did you just do a search? Regards, Matt EDIT: Oh I forgot Carl that you were part of the original "Celebrity Owned Z's" thread when I posted that I bought it

Original Steel Wheels
Hi Nutz. From what year are your steel wheels form? Do you know offhand if they are 4-1/2" or 5" in width? Thanks, Matt
