Original Steel Wheels
Thanks Arne. I was going to PM you because I heard a rumore that you were a wheel expert (among other this I'm sure). Now the big question. Will you sell me your NOS caps you bought a while back, , just kidding, sort of. Matt

Original Steel Wheels
Yup that's how mine is configured as well. So is it safe to assume that all Series I and Series II cars came with "D" style hub caps? I am also aware that there was an early and later version of the "D" style caps. Matt

Hi Dennis. Do you consider your 4/71 a series II? Do you have the rear hatch vents? Matt

Original Steel Wheels
Can anyone tell me if the original 240z steel wheels are still available from Nissan? I am also curious about the hubcap type. I have a Series II 240z manufactured in 5/71 and was sold as a 1971 model. Does anyone know if my 240z should have came with the "D" style hubcaps or is the later "Z" style correct for my production month/year? I always assumed the the "D" style hubcaps were specific to Series I 240's but my early Series II share many of the same parts. Thanks, Matt

Bought a new mirror - is this defect normal?
Why can't you use it for the passenger side? The mirror flips all the way around I believe.

Series II 240Z Wiper Motor Bag
Ugh how did I forget about Banzai. I've been ordering so many parts lately my brain is just fried. I left him a voicemail and shoot him an email. Thanks, Matt

Series II 240Z Wiper Motor Bag
Does anyone know of any wiper motor bag reproductions available? My motor is perfect but the bag is brittle and has over spray from the PO's paint job. Matt

Bought a new mirror - is this defect normal?
Ya I felt the same way. I'll take a closer look on Wednesday but I'm pretty sure mine was the same. Matt

Bought a new mirror - is this defect normal?
Yup. I went through 3 mirrors before I accepted that flat spot as "normal". The last one I settled on wasn't so drastic though. I also noticed that all of them had small "normal" defects on the short edge where it looked like the metal was hammered to fold over the side on to the glass. I don't have the mirror on me right now but I can sent you a picture on Wednesday. Matt

The wheels are dealer applied Indy slotted mags so they should me allowed in the stock class with a minimum 5 point deduction. Whatever the case may be I'm not building this car to win trophy's. I'm building it to be driven

Hi gnosez. Why would you consider this a street mod? Everything is stock except the polished valve cover, exhaust and emissions delete (which I am refinishing on the side if I ever decide to through it back on). The engine hasn't even been rebuilt, just cleaned up. Original 90,000 miles. Not dismissing it just curios because I thought ZCCA judging rules allowed some modifications (even to a greater extent that I'm taking it) and still it would be allowed to enter the stock class? Thanks, Matt

Even the new FI line smaller but not by much. I can get it tight but the with the original wire clamps the screw head touches the threaded plate on those clamps. I also found that there is a slight variation between the size of the clamps even if they are supposed to be the same size clamp so there's a little trial and error. We'll see. I've been hording every clamp I can find in the country so I'll find something that will work, hopefully.

Ah I see. No actually that's not a bad suggestion. I am going for year specific originality but I do appreciate functionality. I'll have to see how the wire band clamps perform. The only other Z I have experience with was a fuel injected 75' 280Z I owned when I was 20. I'm not running an electric fuel pump so I won't be seeing that much pressure.

Hey Captain Obvious. Good observation. Yes those fuel line clamps are only temporary while my Nissan clamps are off being plated. What sucks about those small clamps though is that the original Nissan hose was a little larger in diameter due to it being metric, and right now I have standard fuel hose installed. If I leave it this way the original clamps will work but they will need to be tightened down more and may deform the clamp. Hopefully it will be tight enough. I have some Ferrari fuel hose on order that is allegedly pretty close to the dimensions of the original Nissan hoses.

Problem with Intake Coolant Nipple
But I don't think the 71 series II every came with a control valve from the factory. I see nothing in my FSM in fact I don't see anything related to water running through the intake at all. Now I'm getting concerned.

YES!!! I will be there. I am hoping to have everything put together by the beginning of June. No trailer though. Hopefully I'm not to scared to make the 4hr drive from Long Beach, NY.

Thanks for the pictures Stanley! From what I understand my 71 didn't come with one stock. I like the feature though and my try to adapt it. Matt

I picked up the Black OEM version that MSA sells although I think it's a 3-core. Minus the polished valve cover I'm going for OEM looks and performance. This also means the stock air cleaner housing will be going back on as well. I also ceramic coated the original exhaust manifold but will be mateing it up with the fujitsubo legalis r twice pipes exhaust system from Japan. That probobly the only aftermarket item I'm going to install, but damn it's sexy... FUJITSUBO LEGALIS R EXHAUST SYSTEM DATSUN 240Z 260Z 280Z S30 | Whitehead Performance

It was a hard decision to polish the valve cover. I was originally going to go for the original dull raw aluminum finish since I am doing a stock restoration but man I'm glad I went with full polished treatment. It really sets the engine bay off especially with the 901 Silver and all the CAD plated shiny bits reflecting off of it. Should be easier to clean also. Matt

I got the starter from new-datsun-parts.com. They have a lot of good stuff but are a little expensive. That's also where I got one of my complete lock sets (which is for sale by the way). The starter is at the top of this page 240Z Parts, Electrical It's a Nissan started remanufactured in Japan. It was the only one I can find with the yellow zinc shiny bits. Matt

Hi guys/gals. I hope to find the time in the near future to post a full write up but for now I wanted to share some of the progress on my engine bay. I cant believe how nice this is starting to look! Matt 5/71 Build

Problem with Intake Coolant Nipple
Can anyone else help identify that ZTherapy nipple? Bruce didn't know and Steve is away at a car show. Matt

Problem with Intake Coolant Nipple
Well I found a nipple that will work but now I'm curious as to what the ZTherapy nipple/valve is for and if it is indeed a valve. I guess I should just ask Bruce. Matt

Problem with Intake Coolant Nipple
EuroDat I believe the E46 had water passing through the intake while the other intake you mentioned had water passing through the carbs. Is that correct? Stanley so your saying that fat piece on the ZTherapy nipple is a valve that closes when hot to prevent coolant from passing through the intake? Would this cause the intake to run hotter or cooler? I still don't understand how I'm supposed to mount the rear bypass tube. The bracket won't reach the stud without interfering with the nipple with the valve. Even with a shorter hose the bracket doesn't reach. Do I have the wrong bypass tube? Thanks, Matt
