fuel cap question
OK... I did found a picture of one on google, makes me wonder if it might be an original one ? http://www.whiteheadperformance.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/1971-Datsun-240Z-Gas-Cap.jpg

Goob's 72 Franken-Z
That might sound pretty good ! I think the power is more then enough like you state, it's just for some fun... Do a basic check on the engine and service it, new oil, filter, plugs etc, take valve cover off, and check valve clearances first, and lube the top end for the first start like carl suggests.

fuel cap question
Don't know, but is this an original or aftermarket fuel cap ?

stuck door
This is a pain.. but you need to look carefully inside the door panel with a light to see where you have to lift it up to get it open

My Datsun 240Z
It's a replica of the original one. A shop in Utrecht ( That's a city here ) that makes custom exhausts made it, using measurements of my old exhaust.

Gasoline...
The lowest we have here in Europe is 92 ( Germany only ) and 95 octane, and the highest 102 octane in Germany also. But I believe the manual says 95 minium. My 71 runs fine on 95... But maybe they came with lower compression heads in the US, and you can use lower octane fuel... I don't know.

My Datsun 240Z
Went to Stolze, but still no diff Leon... I'll have to wait. But I'm sceptic about it... maybe I have to look for another one somewhere. Meanwhile I sandblasted the rear panels and painted them gloss black with a few clear coats. Yesterday I found the floors of the car covered with water under the mats.. only to be finding the stupid sunroof leaking again . It's inside the garage now, going to decide what to do with the stupid roof, either fix for now or remove the damn thing.

rear hatch lock/latch
It prob came loose from the slamming. Like racebird1 says, it's a simple push down mechanism, you can push the lever down to open the hatch if you remove the panel on the inside.

Good Deal? Mint '72 240z or keep 280Z
Well your going back to a 240z so from a European point of view they are worth more. But it's a late 72 model, but expect some things to do on the car, maybe you can get something off from that 10k ?

Good plan..

I open myself for you criticism!
^ I agree with the rest, awesome work. You can get there... I've been that road to, but decided it was really to much rust to continue on it, it was easier to look for a more solid car.

Also looks likes there's a nut missing on the left strut mounting in the engine bay ?

fuel smell only with windows down
I do now I am missing the rubber strip in the engine bay where the hood closes on... ( getting that this week I hope ) could it be that carburetor/engine fumes are leaking past that, and going into my cabin when I open the windows when driving ? ( the natural flow pushing the gasses in ? ) I am thinking that because there's also alot of air from both the fan and the wind is pushing into the engine bay when driving...

fuel smell only with windows down
I used the search but couldn't find a real answer to it. When I drive with the windows closed there's no fuel smell in the interior, but when I drive with the windows down there's a smell of fuel... I have to say it is less now with the new rebuild carburetors, but I can still smell it. Does it come from the engine bay ?

series one 12/70, red
Robert, You'r right, didn't even notice it at first ! I need to learn to look more carefully. I'm currently also in the process of repairing the cracks, but so far didn't found a company willing to take the challenge. Gr Bart.
