Luck is on my side again... Was going to town to wash the car, came back and parked it here on our own area at home, needed to help a customer. The moment I am doing that I see the visitor from my neighbour drive his work van straight into the front of my 240z.. (*@#&!@&!@ Dammit ! Just got it done ( alot of problems with the chrome work and paint allready ) and now this.. Filled in the papers and it's going to be fixed offcourse, but i'm pretty angry because he could have looked before driving away in reverse.. Here's some pictures, the hood seems okay, but you never now, the chassis wil have to be inspected etc.. Don't know yet have to call the Insurance first on monday and work from there. Parts may need to come from the US again because nothing is available here.. Offcourse it's going to be fixed but it didn't have to be...
  2. Yeah he's talking about girls isn't he ? Ontopic: Wow's that some project you did right there ! Crazy work we do to get these Datsun's back on the road
  3. If it spits both out of the carburetor AND backfire, things that come to my mind are timing and valve clearance Did you do anything to the motor, rebuild it or what ?
  4. You could use something like Wynn's coolant system flush, you just add that to the coolant and drive for a while, after that you flush the system and refill with new coolant. I would recommend ready to use coolant, don't mix it yourself with water. Good idea to maybe also check the water pump ( bearing could suddenly fail from sitting so long, I had this myself ), and replace the thermostat like allready said here.

Yesterday I visited another Japanese classic car event in the city of Boxtel ( about 45 min drive from my place ) with one of my friends. One entrance there was a " drive through " photoshoot, so here's a cool picture ! Lots of interest into the 240Z, I'm happy to see the younger folks showing some interest, but also older people where interested. I also met an older guy who's been restoring classic cars since the late 60's and worked for Fokker aviation doing the sheet metal work, interesting talk.. I also recieved the final appraisal report for the Insurance, the value was quoted at € 28.500 or $ 31.784

But it was 115c below the thermostat on the IR. Didn't really think about that, but should have given me a clue... But anyhow it's fixed now, temp meter is staying in the middle or just a touch to the right of that.
  8. Did you use a spark tester ? Spark outside the engine even blue doesn't mean anything I have found out.. Also be sure the timing is correct ? It could be in the head like siteunseen is saying. Worst case you have to dismantle the entire engine..

Hi Chas, Yeah sure you can see it next weekend I found there's nothing wrong with the engine but I guess it's a faulty temp sensor.... Was driving in the afternoon when it cooled down and it still got all the way to 250 but the engine didn't feel that hot when opening the hood. I measured with an infra red temp gun on the thermostat housing and it says +- 80c.. while the dash gauge goes all the way to the right, but when I unplug it it goes all the way to the left, so I assume it's the temp sensor.. You guys are right, it should cool enough, and it does seemingly !

Thanks Yeah she's running fine, real smooth. Just drove it a bit this afternoon but the temp outside is to hot for the old lady, I had to put her on the side of the road for a while to cool down ( the temp gauge got near 240/250 ). Temps around 25c are just fine, today it was 30c and that's to hot for her, if there isn't enough ( cool ) wind to cool it down. I guess these cars are made for cooler weather.. I made some more pics..
  15. Seen countless ads of him.. anybody knows this guy.. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Datsun-Z-Series-240Z-series-1-/161808973856?forcerrptr=true&hash=item25ac910020&item=161808973856

I'm going to adjust the carbs a little tomorrow and also the ignition timing, but for the rest she's running fine
  17. It's funny because injection was invented for fuel economy, but they end up giving worse fuel economy than carbs ( if set up properly )
  18. It's one hell of a puzzle getting that car back together, but keep going and you will get there
  19. And if you press the clutch pedal a few times, does it go easier in reverse then ? Could be your not depressing the clutch enough. Or else the synchro..

  22. The Original manual says to use 10w30 weight oil and recommends not going heavier
  23. That's NOT a rebuild, maybe a quick touch up from the outside but that's it..
