I need some ideas
A v8 doesn't belong in a z car in my opinion.. different power delivery than a straight 6

I need some ideas
Think your right in that, he's better of on HybridZ, this is more for classic z cars.

I need some ideas
boost it, or go for another inline 6 like the RB series ? I wouldn't drop a V8 in there... Or a stock m3 engine from the bmw e36, that's about 300 hp

My Datsun 240Z
Thanks everyone ! Well yesterday was fun, the weather was pretty nice and sunny I don't know where to find pictures of the event yet, but I guess they will show up later this week. Although this was the first time they held this event, it went pretty good. A lot of people where looking at the car, don't see an old Z that often here ! I made a picture of the car this morning as it sits

Paris to Dubai Classic Car Rally 2014
Wow... just found this by chance. And they are naming the Datsun 240Z on their website to '' Among the sports and GT cars, Mercedes coupés and cabriolets must again rank among the favourites; but a Porsche or a Datsun 240Z could do well, and a well prepared Austin Healey or MGB may surprise them ''. mechanical throttle linkage, what's the problem ?
Problem is GONE. To confirm: it was in the carburetor butterfly axles ( to much drag/wear ). Pedal feels so smooth now, it's even to sensitive !

Engine will only run above 4000 RPM. Carbs or timing?
Got it fixed.. it was the breaker points that wore in to fast, because of missing lube on the cam...

My Datsun 240Z
Finally got it running right... I had to turn the carburetor mixture screws richer, because it wouldn't idle properly, I wouldn't have thought, because Chris had them on a 2.8 engine ! Timing is also correct, and it idles fine now. I have to admit, the gas pedal problem is GONE ! It's so much smoother now Feels like driving a new car.. maybe it's a bit to over sensitive and I have to get used to it now. Anyhow it's ready for tomorrow's classic car rally

My Datsun 240Z
Okay so finally we managed to get the engine running again yesterday around 24.00. It was an ignition problem again, partly coil hooked up wrong, and timing. Also placed a few new gaskets, and found a spacer that's on top of the valve, in the oil pan.. that was missing from the beginning when I got it. More to follow on this, we have to get it running for the sunday event. Anybody can confirm the distributor vacuum advance hose is in the right place ?

Hey Chris, I got your SU's on, but now I have the same problem , won't even start, we are working on it. Think it's ignition problem like you had. Can't be the carbs. I noticed the front pulley with the ignition mark the key was missing.. ( see my thread ). Changed the condensator earlier and it fired up, but next day won't start again and condensator seems fried ? What fries condensators?

Anybody the middle part from the rear bumper for sale ?
I have a temporary Dutch version, which has holes in the middle for license plate lights. I'm looking for a smooth US version for my 71. Anybody has one for sale where the chrome is still ok on it ? And willing to ship to the Netherlands ? Thanks, Bart.

My Datsun 240Z

My Datsun 240Z
okay, itˊs not the fuel delivery, the carbs are great by the way thanks chris! Ignition problems again . My brother is helping, wˊll continue tomorrow. We managed to get it running, but something is very wrong with the ignition timing, also the crankshaft pulley key was missing ! ( so the timing marks on the pulley are wrong ) Updates to follow. I want to have it ready for next week, because of the classic car rally on sunday.

My Datsun 240Z
I got the rebuild ztherapy carbs from Chris ( Grannyknot ) today, and mounted them this evening. ( pics to follow tomorrow ). But she doesn't want to start, if I use starterfluid into the air filter there's a reaction from the engine. So I believe it's not getting enough fuel. I did crank for quite a while with the choke on, but only little reaction from the engine. Any advice ? I'll look tomorrow again.

old cars that small or new cars that big ?
interesting point about the doors, I do know door height also changed over time here. I do know people where alot smaller in the 17th and 18th century.

old cars that small or new cars that big ?
OK compared to American cars yes, but they didn't have them here in Europe much.
-
How have you fixed twisted off rusty bolts?
Yes, heating up the old and using some wd40 or penetrating oil will most likely get it out. Forget cold. That's what I usually do to. But I would never use a helicoil. For my work I regularly need to drill out broken of 8.8 strenght bolts into cylinders all the time. What I do is grind it down to the surface, then use a pointer with hammer to center, then use a HSS drill, start small and go to the right size, then use a tap to make new thread.

old cars that small or new cars that big ?
I notice when driving in the Z that all the modern cars are much bigger and taller... I was thinking what this has got to do with ? Did the people grow larger and the cars grow with them, or they just made cars smaller back then? I mean when I stand next to a modern small car, it looks big from the seat of my Z..

Z35 the new 240?
New Nissan Z Car, Code-Named Z35, in Pipeline - Motor Trend It's a nice car, but they just don't make em like they used to anymore. It will weigh around 1300 kg, that's 300 more the the 240Z. And they are going 4 cylinder turbo I don't like today's styling features either, are the designers on drugs ? Those big wheels also look ridiculous. For me personally the old cars have a certain feel and emotion to them.. it's all metal and mechanical, while the new stuff is alot of plastics, computers and much easier to drive hence all the modern stuff, also more silent on the inside.
