  1. Are the 280 trannys compatible with the 240's L24 engine? Will they fit? If they do if that the best way to turn your 4 speed 240 into a 5 speed? Bart 1971 240z

I recently bought my first Z, which is a 71. The original exhaust and header is still on the car and I would like to replece them, though I will be hanging on to them incase I want to return the car to stock but in the mean time I would like to get something that would give me a little more power. Now here is my question: I was wondering what a good header exhaust combo to get that would give me the best HP increase without breaking the bank. While I don't mind some noise from an exhaust I don't wanna sound like one of them street racers that annoy so many. Does anyone have any favorite online places to shop for exhaust systems? Thanks in advanced, Bart 1971 240Z

I don't know much about wheels. I have a 71 240 and want to get a new set of wheels at some point here in the near future and am a little lost. I was wondering what sort of range on sizes do I have. Are 17" wheels a little to big, or if they fit would they rub, now I know that would have to do with the width also which brings me to my next question, how much size to I have to play with in that department. Then the lug pattern, four lugs but what about the offset (I think that is what it is called), or however the lug pattern is measured? I would love some recomendations, and if anyone knows of a good place to buy them at good prices a url would be perfect. Thank you in advance, Bart 1971 240Z

YOu can by the video of that show at the history channel website for $25. Item Number: AAE-40124 http://store.aetv.com/html/catalog/vp01.jhtml?id=40124 Well I guess A&E sells it for history channel, they are probably the same company, I don't know. You can get to it from the link above or going to the historychannel.com and going to the store and searching for it. Happy Shopping Bart 1971 240Z built: 7/71
  6. I am in the process of replacing the fuel hoses on my z and have found that trying to get at the hoses that come from the tank to the metal fuel tubing that runs the lenghth of the car is hard to get at. I do not have a lift so I have to do my work on my back with the car on blocks. I sort of doubt that dropping the fuel tank would ease this job, but maybe it would, I don't know, why I am asking here. So anyone one with any advice for this 240Z newbie? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Bart

OK before I go and start removing nuts and bolts I wanted to ask what to I undo to remove the seats. I have an 81 VW and there is one nut to remove and the seats slide off the tracks, is there anything like this or do I remove the four nuts that I think I need to remove to get the seats out. I realize this is sort of a stupid question but I want to just check. Bart

  9. I need to replace at the very least my fuel filler hose coming off the tank. I have been having trouble finding an online store that carries these parts. I have seen other peoples z's online with steal braided fuel hoses and lines but I can not seem to find these for sale either. Do any of you have a online store they might recomend? Thanx. Bart

I was wondering if there is a diagram of the fuel system for the 240. I have a haynes manual and it only shows the 260. Does the 240 also have an electric fuel pump near the tank? I just bought a 1971 240 and there seem to be a problem with fuel making it to the carbs. I checked the mechanical pump and it seems to be working. I manually tried to suck some fuel to the filter by sucking on the hose that goes from the filter into the pump but only a few drops of fuel made it into the filter. Is this normal or should I be able to fill the filter up if I manually try to fill it? I think I may have either a clogged line or something. I was just hoping to find a diagram of the fuel system, or maybe if someone could tell me the difference if there is one between the 240's and the 260's system. Thanx in advance to anyone who may help out. Bart
  11. I am about to buy my first Z car and I have a couple questions. I am buying a 1971 240Z which was built in 7/71. This car has been sitting under a car port for the last five years. It was running when it was parked but has not been started since. I need to look a little bit more for rust but so far I have not seen any, I think this car has spent it's life in California away from the salty ocean air. The body is in great condition and the interioris decent, I will have to do something about the dash. My question is this... Besides the obvious things like making sure fluids are completely drianed and new ones put it, new plugs, wires etc., is there anything that I should check that may be a particular problem to 240's? Any tips that anyone can think of which may help me get this car up and running would be appreciated. Bart
