So, the wait has been nearly a year for any attempt at even working on it. After previous debate, it was decided to get the engine running first, because based on the background of this car, the engine should have been just fine. Steps were taken to revive her, but only the beginning steps. Pulled the plugs, and dropped in Marvel Mystery Oil into the holes. Let it sit for a few days, and threw a ratchet onto the bottom crank pulley, and to my surprise and misfortune, absolutely nothing. Tried more oil, and more time to sit, still nothing. Clutch was engaged, and the only turning I got was on the bolt when turning counter clock wise. Even to the point of standing on the ratchet and bouncing on it for the hope that it would just nudge enough to turn, nope.. I believe 4/6 spark plugs were fine, (maybe 3/6). The other 2 (or 3) had corrosion on the tips, the best way I could describe it was a battery acid looking corrosion that closed the gap at the end of the plugs, however it was assumed these were the plugs that were not in range of the oil due to the way the engine was sitting, and we proceeded to the mystery oil attempt. Unfortunately, I believe this 240z project is dead in its tracks, I really don't want to have to take apart the engine, but it seems like an engine rebuild is inevitable. If this is the case, then it would result in selling the car, more than likely. That being said, any suggestions are more than welcome and to be quite frank, sought for right now.

zbump It's apparently a '74; I was misinformed earlier :S Are there '74 240's? Thought it was 260 at this point

Pictures! More of them! Surprisingly, the mechanical parts are almost perfect (seemingly); still no surgery besides some removal of lining, spare, etc. thus far, but heres some quick shots of things I could try to reach and take pictures of. The rust is only in corners of the car, it rusted through on the hatch in spots and in the back but the main parts are all nearly rust-free. But again, I have no idea how much integrity has been taken away from this car based on observation (If I had to guess, I'd say next to none.) It steers and rolls (obviously). Beneath the cross-stitched red lining everything was like new, no rust, again except for the "corners". I couldn't get the battery off (Forgot keys to the tool shed, ) so I couldn't determine the health of the battery platform. I was told, once again, a 1+grand "racing" suspension job was done to it and I have no idea about the life span of suspension but got some pics of that as well, seems pretty fresh to me. <iframe class="imgur-album" width="100%" height="550" frameborder="0" src="http://imgur.com/a/RigAs/embed"></iframe>

The frame was actually re-worked/re-done before it sat, was cranked on/off with front/rear areas no bends and the rust is only surface chipping (Paint coming off then thin layer of rust). Floor boards are surprisingly almost like new, just dusty. Its got the roll-bars on the inside already and it has a piped-out 'kit' (Don't know if my uncle made the piping himself or ordered or what) but its just sitting around, though I'm not going to pipe it out til maybe way later on in its life. I haven't seen under the hood in detail yet, I was going to have a few mechanic friends stop by today but that didn't happen so hopefully tomorrow. I found (a) bumper. P.S. It's nice to hear more optimism about this project from others, due to my lack of knowledge on this beauty. Hoping to have detailed information/progress within two weeks for a good start! Once again, thank you all for the comments

Got her in yesterday, going to see the true health tomorrow. My dad (again who is more toward the mechanic side especially more than me) is convinced I'd be able to turn her over. I looked at some parts and my uncle did actually preserve the mechanics; oil/towels inside moving parts, etc, he put her to rest but now its down to see if I can wake her up

Well let's just say it was handed down to me. And my uncle was good with mechanics and based on judgement it's assumed he 'put it to sleep' i.e. spraying oil etc where parts needed to be preserved. These are all assumptions. And like I said parts are lying around, it just comes down to finding them. I really didn't have time to look around, literally to the point where I would get yelled at when I was trying to look for more parts because I was cleaning the house out. Thanks for the advice nonetheless.

Getting her on Tuesday, going to reveal the true potential very soon.

Well like I said it was running perfectly then additions were made, $1000+ "racing suspension tune" (more details when I friggen get the car, ) plus a ton of mods lying around, both of which deal with the mod you guys saw. I will have details coming soon promise, that was a quick tease because I snuck that video in the middle cleaning up the house completely in 1 day (1 hour 30 min drive so had to work hard/fast). I have everything I need, it's just all based on the damage over time. What I'm hoping and expecting to do is to buy a 240 from a yard, and hopefully find one with just body parts so it'll be cheap and I can replace things such as the hood (Literally crumbled between my finger, but again, inside is only moisture damage, a quick sand blast will save it or perhaps sanding). I'm getting the car on Tuesday but I'm also working 5 days a week 8ish hours a day 45 minutes away so it will be slow but definitely a fun community-help project for sure. I'm very excited for the feedback thus far, and I'm very glad to have people willing to help. Great forum, great community. Thanks Olzed, much luck needed. My father knows a little about this but not so much the tuning so thanks for the info, Stanley. I'll definitely try them out. The car has been sitting for a guestimate of 20+ years. I don't know what I'm getting to, honestly, but optimistism keeps the drive going and I want to make this car define me, I will have the cash, savings plan already set up for it. Thanks, Charles, I'll definitely contact you in need of assistance. And while on the subject, do you know where I could find 240z body parts. Not 240z aftermarket body kits but pre-owned OEM parts or even pre-owned aftermarket body kits?; location location location... Only assuming as a down-the-line purchase but all dependable on overall damages, once again.

I'll be dragging it home soon, it's about 1.5 hours off. Obviously first I'll focus on reviving her. If everything goes according to planned, all I'd have to do is rip apart the major components (Clueless but I have initial help at the moment) and make sure everything is refreshed in terms of the mechanical parts; cleaned out oil/gas/injectors?/etc. then re-mount the components and the miscellaneous unmounted pieces and re-work dry-rotted tubing and shot wiring, if any too seriously damaged to test the engine at the time. My goal is to not spend over $100 on the revival, because like I said and as I was told it ran perfectly, had some things taken out and then sat for 20ish years. Framework was re-done/improved before it sat as well so hopefully that wasn't rusted through. Based on the look under the hood had only moisture, though the hood crumbled between my fingers in a pinch at the end tip of it. All this being said, I have enough informants to help solve most of the beginner work, but do any of you 240z gurus have any advice for key components to check/maintain before any attempts to bring it to life? Also, in the video, could anyone tell me what that is at 1:24ish? Thanks - Adam

So sorry for the lateness, just started a new job + other life blah blah right around the time I was going to upload the vidya, but turns out it's harder than I thought to get it from my phone to my computer. But here it is: The Z - YouTube And I live in Simpsonville, Charles. Anywhere near?

Awesome link, thanks. And yeah, pictures will be coming up. I'm going to go as far with it as I can (hopefully) although I'm a touch/go project type of person so we'll see. Appearantly more and more mods are coming up, and yeah I'm also quite positive it was getting prepped for competition. Thanks for the welcome!

Hey all, very soon I am getting a 1971 240z. Basically it's coming to me from family for free, though I know nothing about it in terms of condition and what damage is done. I was told it sat for 20 years with tons of parts installed/waiting to be installed including a lowered suspension, a transmission mount, front/rear sway bars, roll bars, new header and some front air scoop or something along those lines oh and new bucket seats, but if its been sitting for 20 years than idk. I'm completely new to 240z's and real cars in general. Here's a thread of my current car, a chevrolet cobalt. It's nothing special, trust me, just love for the look. I ended up putting in a CAI in and some electronic improvements on the inside. But this opportunity to work on a real car, and a mean one at that, and to actually learn about cars, hey I'll take the opportunity up. I know people who can do body work for me for cheap (I think) as well as detail. Anyway, this will not completed any time soon, due to money issues, and I have no idea how much I'm getting to start with, but I know it'll be coming my way very soon (should be between week-month, maybe even this Wednesday which I will take pictures by then) I'm planning to make this car a fast badass, for my slowbalt cannot do that. I am more than happy to encourage any input into future mods or ideas of what to do to it. How to make it a great ride really. And I'd like ideas on modernizing it a little; smoother gauges, tinted windows, decent rims, and if possible body kits/modifications, but primarily the interrior.
