RE: Harness Upgrade. ok anything 'plug and play' for a 260z upgrade ..as opposed to .."can make it work...maybe."

Does Dave's work for an early 260Z ??
  3. gtom - doing both is better :-) I have a 74.4 260z with factory a/c. ..& for the longest of times have been thinking of chucking the a/c to save weight, but have always been talked out of it because folk keep telling me it adds value / sale (ability) !. The system works, but it's a 40 y/o design so will never be ice cool like the modern units. Any one have any idea what the weight saving will be here ? do u have plans for more power ?
  4. and how much weight do you believe you have removed by junking these items ? I think side mouldings offer meaningful protection especially on a car with good quality paintwork...what about the dash ? presume it's cracked ...you going to repair it..? I dunno... I feel it's easier to add hp than save weight..

No - I believe that's the spark plug of choice.
  6. yeah - tach works above 3000rpm ! the Tach is a pain to get at but my intent is to go the 'resistor jump' route to get it working ..when i can find the time. I follwed the wiring diagram that came with the unit. I'm thinking I may have to go back to E12-80 if I can't get the pinging sorted. I know there are noticeable improvements in driveability going from 240Z points ignition to MSD..I'm now wondering how large the improvements (if any) I will see over the stock 280zx dizzy
  7. careful with those violet/green wires - I got some unwanted pinging after i did this swop (E12-80 out). MSD & someone on this site suggested switching the pick up wires ..apparently getting them round the wrong way can cause unstable timing. Will let you know how I get on. Hope this is not another case of poor Quality control at MSD..
  8. Guy's - installed MSD (6425) ignition over the w/e & now get pinging on my 240Z ! dropped the timing a few degrees ..now only @ 13/28deg & no change in condition. Using a 280zx dizzy, E12-80 module now removed with vacuum disabled. the MSD should not have messed with the dizzy adv curve so not sure why this should have happened. no change in gas quality - same gas in tank before/after swop. Motor is a 2.8L / mild cam ~ 10:1 CR Any comments/observations ?. thanks
  9. Looking at MSD (6425) ignition to improve cold start / idle & low rev running. Is this an upgrade worth pursuing ? interested in your experiences (installation issues ? etc). I have the newer 280zx Dizzy. thanks.

Yeah - I did see the choke cabel comment, but as you say, finding good ones in working order can be a pain. I was hoping the 240Z bracket could be easily modified, but seems like that may not be the case

Hi Have seen several posts contained in the forums that discuss a choke bracket to remount the choke lever onto the transmission tunnel. The retro-fit item available on ebay 240z choke lever bracket in eBay Motors | eBay works for the 240z only - I have an early '74 260Z & the ebay bracket will not line up. Anyone aware of a similar 260z solution for this issue - trying to avoid fabricating a bracket myself if there is already a working design out there. Thanks Rich.
