  1. I know everyone has there take on what looks good to them, but every time I see a Z with small fat wheels it just looks right, as soon as the rim gets big and the tires go lower profile it just looks wrong. Now this limits brake options (or at least nice big modern rotors) Do you guys have recommendations for modern brake kits that can put discs on all 4 corners but still fit in a 15" wheel? (might be able to go to 16) I'm not taking this thing racing regularly, maybe the odd track day, but am trying to be a restomod type car where I put more modern components in my build (suspension/brakes)

all the links look like they are now expired
  3. nice. always loved the gnose. gives it a real sleek look.
  4. Its practically free! While saving up for what I want to eventually do to my car, I spend time in photoshop messing around with ideas I have. The bottom is an illustration of my car as it stands. It lets me play around with color ideas, suspension looks, wheels etc. Hopefully it will allow me to narrow down what I want to do before I start to spend coin. anyone else keep busy doing anything similar?
  5. thanks I'll have a look and see what I can find. I ordered a new msa fusebox that uses a board and bladed fuses. There a few spots on my that show damage and I'm not looking to keep my z 100% stock, so no need to stay with older tech.
  6. yeah exactly I need to take it back to get the inspection signed off on. After finding what broke I don't think it was a shop problem, probably just bad timing. I've now fixed everything left fixing so I've got an apt mon to get it all signed off on so I can get it registered and insured here. The part that got me was I checked all fuse in the fusebox and didn't see any troubles. But after I got it home I traced the wire from the fuel pump and found one of those inline wire fuses that input a 10amp blade fuse, that one was where the fuse blew. the wire was tucked up under the front dash and then joins in a wire coming from the ignition switch which is why I missed it when it happened. The fuse was melted with slight blacking on the elements either side of the break, but no blacking on plastic housing. I'd say a .5-1mm break in the fuse element.
  7. well that was a ****ty way to spend money (referring to the tow) traced the fuel pump wire. negative direct to battery, positive going to the ignition with a inline fuse that was tucked way up in the dash so I missed it. fuse had blown. wonder what would have caused it? oh well, every experience helps teach me about the car, fired right up. time to put a very extensive fuse kit in the car so I potentially avoid that situation in the future.
  8. not sure if this is authentic but saw this on a local craigslist (vancouver) (for those interested in low vins) 1969 Datsun 240Z Rolling Shell
  9. car is at home, but I'll check that after work. They way it quit I hadnt even thought of fuse. thats why its always good to check with others thanks. and yeah you are right on the napa fuel filter.
  10. Took the car to the shop to get it safety inspected. Inspection came back almost clean just a brake booster problem that they fixed, and some small electrical tweaks and an alternator belt change that I elected to take home and do myself to save shop labour. Halfway home the car all of a sudden felt like it lost power and died. I restarted it, it ran for 3 seconds and then died. After that it wouldnt start. Through the choke on and got 1 last second of engine running before sputtering and dieing. I noticed I wasnt hearing a familiar noise. Normally with the key in the on position I hear the fuel pump running. This time, nothing. At first I missed it cause of the traffic noise. Got the car towed home. p/o has installed a mallory series 110 electric pump, and looks like disconnected the flow guide valve. I'm guessing the can before the pump is likely a fuel pressure regulator? I'm new to these cars so I'm doin my best to research as best I can. My question is basically about diagnosing this correctly. obviously right now the pump isnt running cause I was able to hear it before. Do these cars have a tank located pump as well (71 240z)? Makes me wonder if the shop left the key in the on position when doing their work and maybe overheated and wore out the fuel pump? It was running fine the day before I took it to the shop, drove a good 40 miles with no problems. though I also know old stuff breaks. The ****ty part is I'm under a time crunch. After inspection you have 1 month to fix and show fixes, otherwise you go back to square one (which means the next inspector might not overlook a few things this one has). All I had to do was alternator belt and get side markers working (they worked a week ago) but now I have to sort out this issue. Would it be a simple job to just buy a new fuel pump, install, and see what happens? Is there other things I should be checking just in case (**** in fuel lines etc) ie is there something that might have caused the pump to fail that I should look into? I have a home garage but not a lot of specialty tools. (fuel pressure guages etc)
  11. took the interior apart to fix an electrical issue and forgot to take pics of the floorspans. here are some other shots as I remembered while putting it back together. I need to pass safety before I start any serious work on it.
  12. looks like this forum limits attachment sizes. For the full res you can find at http://www.airmayer.com/images/240z/earlywire.JPG
  13. I'm new to the forum and 240z in general (actually any kind of working on cars in general), so when I was generously given this pdf of a wiring diagram, I made it a little more readable for people like me who are new to electronics (should be able to be printed up big and in color so you can stick it on the wall. there are one or two wires that start up as one color and end another even though it didn't go through a switch or junction, so I'm not sure if the original plan was wrong or if I messed anything up. Hopefully I can help someone out as I'm sure I'll be asking a lot of questions as I get started in my project.
  14. actually, family member turned me on to this site, (user: zKars) and I only found out he was big into z cars after I mentioned to my parents I had bought a 240. I've posted these pics on hybridz and zdriver, or do you guys mean you've seen it in its previous life? Car wise it was an ebay buy from the southeast that I had shipped up to blaine and drove back across the border. I had been looking for a long time and thought I had gotten lucky with this one. Described as unequivocally better than new, and a bolt off restoration (it was neither of those two things) Still though, it looks to be in pretty good condition with just enough work to make it interesting. initial problems were that almost every single exterior bulb was out, turn signals didnt work, brake lights didnt work, horn didnt work. I've got the bulbs all lit now but the turn signals just stay solid, they dont blink, and the brake lights wont come on, though it seems like the switch at the brake pedal is working. Interior wise they cracked the heater console when they installed an aftermarket stereo. interior has an aftermarket carpet kit layed down, but a lot of fasteners are missing and trim details are cracked or missing. The dash has some good cracks and what looks like attempted repair in places. The paint in areas like the door jams was prepped pretty poorly and is cracking. I pulled some of the carpet last night and found solid looking raw metal, which is great. the driver side metal looks like its been painted, but the metal around a drainplug thats there feels a little soft. Will strip it and look for rust. underbody has been coated at some point, but is cracking and falling off, so I'll likely strip that and re-rust protect. pull carpets and front fenders and strip and rust protect. Engine bay has some paint flaking off to raw metal. Looking under the car the tranny and diff arent leaking (no spots on my garage floor) but they do look wet. probably just a seal thats old. mechanically they seem fine so far. Suspension could use work. Basically for now trying to take care of the parts that are labour related (as opposed to money related) and making sure this thing is good for a long time (ie finding, removing, and protecting against rust)
  15. Got wind of this forum from a family member, and I figured the more help I can get the better. I'm new to the idea of working on a car, but I'm a fast learner and its always something I wanted to do, so I decided to start with what I thought was an easier project. Its not quite how it was described in the ad, but its my start. Everything looks top notch until you look under it and in places like door jams. Nice paintjob when doors are closed but bad quality in the door receces' under hood etc. I need to get it up on a lift to look under it as there looks to be some rust starting, but I still see unmolested metal in a large portion of the car on cursory glace, so hopefully wont be a huge rust pain. Overall a beautiful looker, but hiding quite a few projects underneath, which I'm excited to start on as it will give me something to do. I've got plenty to learn and a lot of work ahead of me. [/
