oh, and I painted the grille back and left the chrome trim as is. Does anyone know if they were black and chrome from factory, or left unpainted with the die cast left raw?

Been a while since I posted anything, have done a little to the car since then. Fitted a Petronix electronic ignition which definitely made starting easier and helped it rev a bit. Had a problem with the car stalling, and found the old wiring had some bad voltage drops. Ran a power cable from the Battery direct to the coil, using the original circuit to trigger a relay, and everything was perfect. Bought a set of low king springs and fitted them all around. Gave it a much nicer stance, and made handling so much better. Got rid of a lot of the body roll, without making the ride too harsh. Would definitely recommend it as a cheap effective upgrade. Fitted an old man rear louvre to nana-spec it a little. Also bought a blanket on the rear seat and a tissue box on the rear parcel shelf. Lastly got a period set of rims, Turugi Racing Bilbos. I like the out there styling (and really out there name) and think the gold goes well with the blue. That's all I've done other than use it as a daily and just enjoy it, they really are nice to drive and surprisingly comfortable. Don't plan to do much more at this point, only thing I wouldn't mind fitting is some JDM rear lenses and wiring them up to have all 4 rings as tail and brake lights, don't suppose anyone here can help me find some? Been checking YaJ through Import Monster and haven't seen a set in a while.

10K is lowball? geez, these things seem to go up in value all the time. I'm not selling, mind you, but seems like a decent bit of coin. As for Wedding Cars, well I'm sure there's people who'd love it. Maybe not as big a crowd as though who want an XY GT or a MK2 Jaguar or something a bit more iconic

Cam's 1976 240k sedan
Sweet find, looks to be same colour codes as mine. I haven't seen one with the tape deck blanking plate before, seems a shape they don't have a cubby hole there for extra storage space

Electronic Ignition kit
is the 50amp alternator off a later model L motor, or somewhere different? Is it a direct bolt up, or is there some mucking about?

Electronic Ignition kit
So I'm back and have installed the Pertronix kit, I got the ignitor 2 kit with the matching coil. Car starts well, and runs smoother. Definitely winds out a lot better than before. However, one unforeseen problem, is that with 36yo wiring there is a bit of a voltage drop at the coil, and at night when my headlights are on this gets worse. The module in the ignitor kit cuts out below a certain voltage, and at night with headlights, brake lights and indicator at idle the voltage drop will cause the car to stall. Obviously this isn't ideal, so I intend to run power from the battery to the coil, running it through a relay using the ignition power to switch it. This should keep voltage at the coil pretty constant irrelevant of revs/electric use. Will let everyone know how this fix goes.

I'm in the US at the moment and bought a Petronix kit and coil. Will let you know how it goes when I fit it.

@Uras1 I checked the trims and they all have cracks in them, the best of them looks like yours does sorry. @240k Style I thought the guards were ok til a closer look the bottom rear section was all bog and disintegrated when I took it off. I can get pics but can't imagine yours being worse.

After a lead from a friend I found this Datsun sitting in someone's front yard, for $200 it was mine. Car is full of rust, beyond redemption unfortunately. Plans are to strip it down and take any bits worth saving to keep as spares.

my 240k over in Perth
I had a Kuwaiti gentleman offer to buy my car here, with a lowball offer. When I refused he was not happy. As for acceleration, I find the secondaries open about 3500RPM at wide open throttle, and there is a noticable surge. I am looking to replace the points with an electronic ignition system, as I believe this will improve high RPM performance.

Looks good, how long have you had it? I can't remember ever seeing that come up for sale.

Unfortunately I'm sitting in the middle of nowhere on an oil rig at the moment, so no cruises anytime soon. Hopefully I should be back before that Z cruise though, which I will try to get to. I saw photos of your green Datsun from that show, looks mint. I dig the vinyl roof. Judging by the fact that the previous owner was elderly, and that the badge looks weathered, I don't think it's ever been changed. The car is a manual, has AC as well but not working, thing its out of gas. I've always kept towballs on cars that have them, little extra insurance in case someone rear ends you.

Yeah that sounds good, I heard there may be a Datsun Z cruise on the 20th of October, so maybe we should try to meet up at something like that? Mine is a 5/77 model, does your rear panel badge say Datsun or Skyline like mine? At the moment I've just gone through and given it a big service, my plans for now will be just drive it. Down the road I'll probably look for a set of JDM rims and lower it, but only reversible mods so I can get it back to original.

Hi everyone, thought I'd join up and share my new purchase. Bit of a back story first. I was driving home on a Sunday a while back when the city to surf run was on here in Perth, due to detours I ended up taking a route I'd never normally take. Well I saw the old girl just sitting on the verge, they do stand out, so I left a note asking if it was for sale. Not expecting much, I get a call on Monday. the Lady explained it was the father in law's car and he had since passed. The sons didn't want to sell it, but at the same time they were going to do nothing with it. She suggested to them they should sell it on to someone who would take care of it, as the father always did. Well, after some back and forth I am now the proud owner of a 1977 240K sedan. I am the 3rd owner, with the 2nd owner buying it sometime in 1979/80, and driving it til his passing. When I purchased it the lady mentioned that the car never sat outside the garage, and was only there that morning as they moved it out Saturday to hold a baby shower, and they had slept in Sunday. So my random detour led to a car that was outside in daylight for just a few hours. I guess some things are meant to be. Quick Question, has anyone seen a 240K with the rear skyline badge instead of Datsun? Judging by the condition, and the previous owner being elderly, I assume it is factory and wasn't just added later.
