brake booster's hissing at me, and killing idle.
Yeah the early 260s need to band together to keep track of how to fix their little quirks. I think I just need to replace it, ugh. It's always something, But she's getting close to the road, I actually took for a test spin this weekend, and she drove pretty nice, I kept it real close to home as I still need to get insurance. But I wanna finish my struts then take for some real driving.

hoe much stereo can the ZX Alt. handle?
Oh and Kurbycar, if you intend to do an alternator swap, the method used in post #13 on this thread is where I found out how to do it. Picked up an early 260Z - S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z - HybridZ Worked great for me, the only problem is your pump stays running if the motor dies, and always run when the key is in run position. I've heard you can use an oil pressure switch to fix this though, and I don't really consider it a problem as it primes my carbs for me and makes it easy to start. Alt. Was cheaper at oreillys than a new voltage reg.

Awesome, that pretty much settles it for me. I actually already hve two Boston Acoustics 6x9s that are really nice so if I was gonna drop anything it would be the kick panel speakers. I alway thought about doing the sub in the tire well, but I have popped alot of tires while driving, and I intend to daily this car, so I like having a spare along.

brake booster's hissing at me, and killing idle.
So finally got done with the rear brakes, front struts(among other things) carb swapping and other odds and end, and decided I needed to test her out even just once around the block. I've driven it around the block before, but that was a week after first start, with no power(bad carbs), bad struts, and no back brakes. That was horrible and scary, this however was great! Runs a little rough yet, but pulled hard, steering felt really tight, and nice. Rear struts are still bad and there was alot of crashing and sqeaking back there, so that's next. Then came the brakes, they stopped me good, but I expected a little better, and when I hold them on idle drops about 250 rpms, and it actually killed the motor once, and I can hear hissing under the dash when holding the pedal, I had a friend hold them while I listened under the hood and I couldn't hear anything then, but in the car it's kinda loud. It seems like the boosting is really weak too. I am geussing the booster just needs replaced but, if there is some seal or something that could be causing this then I'd rather avoid the 150!! to buy one new. It's the type of thing I could live with for awhile but it's a pain at the stop sign or red light. Any advice or clues anyone? I also know where a 82 maxima is being parted out, I wonder if the booster is a bolt on?

hoe much stereo can the ZX Alt. handle?
My brother has a small Rockford fosgate that I might try and buy off of him, it's small, not sure how many watts though keep in mind the alt was for a 30 year car, so not as bad right?

hoe much stereo can the ZX Alt. handle?
Alright awhile back I did the ZX alternator conversion on my car, my wiring is still a little goofy as I think I have a short somewhere in the dash, but that'll get fixed soon, and everything work for now. Mine is the standard ZX alternator, I beleive its a 60 amp, i see alot people with some sweet stereo systems in there cars, and the ZX had some fancy stereo for a stock system AFAIK, but I don't know how much junk I can run with this alt. I plan to run a single 8 or 10" sub, two 6x9s, and two smaller speaker in the kick panels probably 6", and for all this probably a midsize amp. Do you guys run this much in a Z without upgrading to a 90 or 100 amp alternator? I am willingly to do another alt upgrade but if I don't have too then I won't. Basicly need advice from people that already have systems in there car, cause I need loud music in any car I daily, which this one is getting very close to being my everyday transportation.

Just ordered my Rebello 3.0, now what
I was considering that as well, when my brother originally bought the car his plan involved a SBC. Which I too considered, but I feel like would be fun, but could kill the personality of the car. I will have to research the turbo motors some more. am excited to se the outcome of this thread, can't wait to see how the little 260 does, with it's new engine.

Ah alright, I figured it that was too good to be true but till those are comparable to any local shop that has no clue how to build an L6, see what came to mind for me, would be sending a head out to him be built and doing the bottom end myself

Wow are you kidding, does 3500 include the carb and head work? 270HP for under 4k is really kinda crazy. Man maybe I can afford to build an L6 for my Z. I really want to keep it L6 powered but think I'm gonna be craving more power by next summer, hmm maybe it's to start a go fast savings.

floor pan advice, classiz 2 current any good?
He's a good friend of my brothers who knows I'm poor and in need, part of the deal is that me and my brother will help him with the grunt work when we drive it to his shop.

Let's see some wheels!
Wow! I'm really glad this thread got resurrected, saw some cool wheels. I wanna see more 4 spoke wheels, they just look right on a Z.

You know looking at your pics, those pans do fit rather nice. I think I'll do the zedd findings pans. I think A new seat support could be made pretty easy, maybe not one as nice as John's but functional.

That's interesting, did you bring ny Zs with you? I've only ever seen two other Z's and neither stayed for long. One was a blue 240z that was for sale here, the other was blue/white with a SBC swap that I sae at a car show. So do you have family here? Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about your prices, It's simply a matter of 300 for floor pans, totally doable, then another 270 for seat brackets puts it out of my current budget, if I had more capitol put back for this, I'd likely order them from you.

floor pan advice, classiz 2 current any good?
The way I look at, I'll have a pro job in my Z, and since my assistance is part of the deal, I can learn something about properly welding, and we can do it in his shop, which is great cause I rarely have a garage.

floor pan advice, classiz 2 current any good?
Yeah I originally thought about doing them myself, then I sat and looked at them and thought, gee if I botch this and end up sending a friend down to the higway, I'm gonna be really mad at myself. So my brother called up a friend with 20+ welding and fabrication experience. He said if I drive the car up to his shop with the pans and help him with what I can, he'll do it for 150. The bad dog seat supports look like really good stuff, but honestly after everything else they would end up blowing my budget, I know most people reuse there's but mine are cracked and I feel like that if there meant for anything other than seat support than they need to go. I might call up zedd finding and see what it would be with shipping.

floor pan advice, classiz 2 current any good?
Hey I had a fabricator friend come over to help evaluate my floor pans and he saif he'll do it, but for him to do it right I should order actual replacement panels. I hear alot avout Zedd findings floor pans, but I also saw classic 2 current pans on rock auto for 100 bucks a side a significant savings over Zedd findings but not significant enough that I would buy a truly inferior product. My rust goes up the trans tunnel a little ways, will either pan patch this area? And does the Zedd findings pan fit alot better? Has anyone used the classic 2 current pans? Also my front seat supports are shot, but 135 per side for new just seems really high. Are these structural at all or just to hold the seat up? Mine will hold the seat no problem but there rusted out badly on the bottom can I just reuse my rusty ones(of course after some cleaning) or are they important to the strength of the car overall? Also does anybody sell them for cheaper? BTW my frame rails are perfect, the pan appead to have rusted from the inside.

Help finding 260z build date(the tag is gone)
For some reason I can't get it to load. Sometimes I wonder why people do this crap to a car? Where did the plate go anyway?

Help finding 260z build date(the tag is gone)
Well cool that gives an idea at least. So she just had her 40th one way or another. Well there thats my excuse for the money I'm spending on it this month.

Help finding 260z build date(the tag is gone)
Well after reading again that there was a tag in the drivers side door jamb I went out to check again noticed there is an indent above the door latch mechanism but no tag after looking a pic I confirmed this is where its supposed to be. So that means it was removed likely during one of its repaints. It started out emerald green then ended up gold, then red, and which has now faded to some sort of awful blotchy pink, but ths another story. So I am left a great deal of curiosity on the matter, when was it born? I'm the kind of that once I know I'm gonna celebrate it's birthday and buy it parts that monthLOL so this is important to me. Is there anywhere else on the body I can find a build date? Or maybe someone has a very close VIN to me that knows there build date My VIN is RLS30-026093 it is of course an early 260z. Thanks Danny.

I checked there, wonder if it was removed when it was painted.

Well measured mine to day at the length, it's 9 and 5/8 like leon's. Ride height is 7.5, I figured that was because of bad struts and new ones would raise it up, but now I figure its natural for a 260, and eibachs or STs will take me down another inch, which should put me right where I wanna be. I wonder what struts to use then.

Well I apreciate the thread, I'v been stressing cause I didn't think I could get her any lower than one inch without blowwing major cash, but little did I know until I read that, that the early ones already have a 1" advantage with springs. BTW your car is stanced perfect for my liking, if mine ends up at the same height I'd be very happy, looks great! BTW how did you find out your build dates, I don't know where to look.

Wow after a little more searching, I found this thread. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/suspension-steering-s30/41059-240z-eibach-springs-260z.html where leonv with an early 260 much like mine uses eibachs and has a solid 2'' because of the different strut assemblys in a 260. this is very interesting, but this means I will need struts meant for lowering like tokico HPs which AFAIK are NLA, Well I've been hunting for a set all along, so I guess the hunt will continue, hopefully my results will be similar to his as his car looked fantastic at that height. does anybody know if there are a cheaper alternitive to tokico's for lowering a car a fair amount. I keep hearing something about using mazda strut inserts or something?

Less than a single adjustable at least. You running any custom springs? Still making decisions. Jacked up the car last night to bleed brakes and the front strut mount insulator was In two peices leaving the entire shock assembly hanging off to one side.
