removing 240Z Head
I'm about to replace the head on my '71' 240. Can someone tell me if it can be done without having to remove the time timing cover and dropping the oil pan? I've tried this twice before and I've never been able to keep the chain on the crankshaft sprocket as the manual say you can. Thanks, JoeT

5-Speed Transmisson
The box I have may be from a Fairlady. Is there anyway I can tell ? Thanks, JoeT

5-Speed Transmisson
Thanks Victor, Just to clarify. So the Fairlady 5-Speed is the one Datsun was advertising as a direct swap back in '71'. Joe

5-Speed Transmisson
Does anyone know if a 5-speed transmission from a Datsun 2000 Roadster would fit a '71' 240? I know a 5-speed was available back in '71' when I bought my 240.

Valve Seats
Thanks for the help. I'm in the process of buying an E31 head to replace the one on my 240. I guess I'll wait and see which seats are in it. My E31 has been butched twice, so when this one came up I thought I should buy it. It's been pressure tested and magnafluxed. Do you know if it is easy to tell if the original seat are still in it? Are the stock ones brass or steel? I was told they were brass by the guy who did the first valve job.

Valve Seats
Anyone know for sure if I have to replace the stock valve seats if I want to burn unleaded fuel?

Cylinder Head
Thanks for the info. It has jogged my memory. If my memory is correct, finding an E31 or early E88 isn't easy. So it looks like I'm going to have to get mine redone in order to keep the car's stock performance. Plus I remember that the late 72's and 73's were hard starting when hot. Maybe it was partially do to the different head ?? JoeT

Cylinder Head
I am the original owner of a 72 (built in 71) 240. The head has been reworked (butched) twice. It needs new seats, valves etc. Any help or advice is welcome. It still has the orginal brass seats. Also, can an E88 head casting replace the earlier one (I believe E81)?
