I had a similar issue while attempting to start my 240 after being rebuilt. My problem turned out to be the oil pump shaft being slightly out of alignment. Being 1 or two teeth out of alignment can make a world of difference. Attached picture shows proper alignment. Good luck.
  2. All very helpful information! We’re celebrating Thanksgiving a day late so will give it a look tomorrow. Thx to everyone who provided information! The pictures were amazingly clear and detailed. I need to remember to have decent lighting when I’m taking pictures—definitely makes a big difference. Thx, Greg
  3. There were lock nuts on both ends which were easily removed. The remaining part on each end is being difficult. I’ve tried unscrewing it and have stopped short of tapping it with a hammer. Thought maybe it had a c clip on each end, but do not see evidence that one is in place. I’ll take a look at your pictures and then try it again tomorrow. Thx for the quick reply. I’ll let you know how it goes.
  4. Captain: Just got through reading your post on restoring the rack and pinion steering on your z. Nicely written, but I was unable to access the pictures that go with it. If you still have the pictures available I would like to see them. I’m in the process of breaking down my R&P steering from my ‘71 240, but have been unable to get the last remaining parts off so I can remove the rack from the tube in order to do a thorough cleaning and put in fresh grease (something newer than 53 years old). I was able to remove the pinion and replace the bearing and seal. Picture is attached to give you an idea of what I’m trying to remove. Thx, Greg

I have put new connectors on the voltage regulator wiring. I wired the connectors exactly as they were before going to paint. One of my questions is why are there only 5 wires coming from the wiring harness, but 6 coming from the voltage regulator. The white wire with red stripe (IMG_7889.jpeg) from the voltage regulator does not connect to a wire from the harness. Also there is a single black wire with white stripe (IMG_7890.jpeg) coming from the harness that does not appear to connect to anything. Anyone know what the wires purpose is? Greg
  7. Thx for the info. The center hole does line up with the two holes that mount to the car so I’ll keep it as is. Greg
  8. I am in the process of installing the 4 speed transmission and rear engine insulator / mount on my 10/70 240, but can’t find any information on orientation of the parts. There is an arrow on the side of the insulator. Is this supposed to point to the engine bay? Also, the mount / brace has two indentations in it. Should these be to the back of transmission as it’s placed in the picture? I took tons of pictures before and during disassembly, but apparently not the pics I needed. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thx, Greg
  9. Steve: Are you still producing the expansion reservoirs? Greg
