  1. Or buy new rails and replace the old ones. I'm sure you'll find a rusty mess inside those rails. By the time you figure out how to treat all the rust in hidden places and insert new sheet metal in the holes, it's easier to replace the rails. The worst part is over-head welding but at least the rails are skip-welded. They weren't heavy ga. sheet metal and it doesn't take long for rust to thin them from the inside out.
  2. Love it. A 12 oz. b.f. frame checker. Well there's your problem there's a hole in the frame.
  3. I've used a pointed implement of destruction such as an ice pick and pushed, probed and stabbed frame rails. You'll find any thin spots and the inspection tool will leave little to no damage if the rail is sound. I'm betting you'll find more soft spots.
  4. It's been my suspicion all along that the reason everyone wearing a mask (of some sort) was played down by the Feds was they knew of the extremely limited stock and the panic that would ensue. Imagine, if the Feds had said, Everyone has to mask up. It would have been uglier than it already is. However, looking at old photos of US cities in 1918, I found one of a man boarding a streetcar in Seattle. Everyone was masked in bandanas and the like. No N95s back then. The caption stated that no one was allowed to ride without a mask.
  5. Pull the rubber release fork grommet from the bellhousing. With a coworker in the car operating the clutch pedal, take a look inside the bellhousing using a good light and possibly a mirror. Check the movement of the slave cylinder, release arm, release bearing and the pressure plate.
  6. Well, ABC news just reported 3.8 million dollars went to a lab in Wuhan to study bats! Not much detail yet but it's reported that money came from the National Institutes of Health.
  7. Social isolation will spare most. Sadly, the risk takers will have and cause the largest fatality rate. I can't help but be reminded of Darwin's theory of "Natural Selection". The slowest and the dumbest are the first to die in a herd of wildebeests.
  8. In the pic it looks like all the perimeter bends are usable. I'd consider cutting the bad (missing) parts out, leaving all the bends that are usable, and welding in inserts.
  9. I read an interesting (perhaps over simplified) article about the Covid-19 virus, don't remember where now. The outside of the virus has a coating of lipids (fat) that acts as a protective coating much like our skin. Once that lipid layer has been compromised the virus will soon die. That's why grease cutting soap, hot water (min. 140`f- 150`f is what I've heard) and min. 70% alcohol are recommended. Following that logic any good heat source (boiling water, oven) or grease cutting solvent (lacquer thinner, acetone, etc.) should do the job. Lacking an oven, I'd boil water and the mask in the microwave to ensure even heating.
  10. I can't see if they're the same level. They're probably very close which explains your spirited driving.? Glad to see you found the source of the leak. Dripping fuel from the carbs of a Z can be disastrous.
  11. When you pull the covers take a look at the fuel levels. Specifically if the one with the stain has more fuel than the other. I think you would have noticed an extreme too-rich condition if that one float was set that high or the needle and seat were was stuck open. As I recall it's been running well. My guess is a bad gasket and spirited driving.
  12. You're right. In this case, nuts is a Sociopath and an extreme Narcissist all rolled into one. In the 1830s this disorder was called "Moral Insanity".
  13. IMHO, Fear. They believe that owning a gun will relieve them of the fear that drove them to buy the gun. At what point does the gun start to own the owner. There are far better ways to address fear than buying a gun but that takes looking inside oneself to find where the fear is coming from and what can we do to stop it from controlling our actions. Fear is just an emotion that the crappy roommate in our heads (the one that never shuts up and you can't get rid of) uses to induce drama into our lives. "It" likes drama and no, "it" is not you.
  14. Good to see the Republicans and Democrats working together for a change. I wonder how long until they start pissing on each other again. It's a shame that it takes a common enemy to unite them.
  15. How much pressure is the elec. pump putting out. Carbs only need 3-4 psi. Higher pressures can overwhelm the needle valve. You haven't mentioned what carbs you're running but are you sure the float level(s) are correct? My early 71 (mech. pump) would run fine at all rpms with the filter 1/3-1/2 full.
  16. IMHO, trying to keep politics out of a Covid 19 discussion is like having a conversation about West coast Datsun shops and not mention the business name, of a particular California Datsun shop who has done a lot of questionable work in the past and is still in business.
  17. G7. Foreign ministers representing seven industrialized nations failed to agree on a joint statement on Wed. after the Trump administration insisted on referring to the Covid -19 outbreaks as the "Wuhan virus", three officials from the Group of Seven countries told The Washington Post. The term, the officials said, is viewed as needlessly divisive at a time when international cooperation is required to slow the global pandemic.
  18. Our son's girlfriend was tested for Covid19 ten days ago by Providence Health. No results back yet. They're stuck at home waiting when they could be working essential service jobs. I don't believe this administration is interested in real infection rate data. Wealth takes priority over health, as usual. Sign me Disgusted but hopeful.
  19. Spindle adaptor for a 45 rpm record? I haven't seen one of those in a looong time.
  20. The first couple of verses of Pink Floyd's "On The Turning Away" have stuck with me through the years and mean more now than ever before. Whenever I feel overwhelmed by the sadness and suffering we deal with as volunteers, I listen to this. On the turning away from the pale and downtrodden and the words they say which we won't understand. Don't accept that's what happening is just a case of other's suffering or you'll find you're joining in the turning away. It's a sin that somehow light is changing to shadow and casting it's shroud over all we have known. Unaware how the ranks have grown, driven on by a heart of stone, we could find that we're all alone in the dream of the proud.
  21. Yeah but he specifically asked that they reach out to you! He's not going to like your rejection.
  22. In order to do anything about the suffering of the world, we must have the strength to face it without turning away.
