  1. Took the car back to the shop and they cleaned the ampmeter needle and came back to life. 20221119_110436.mp4
  2. The problem is not with the fuel gauge, it is on the ampmeter. Needle is stuck at the end of the positivr side as shown in the picture. I even disconnect the battery poles twice and the needle is stuck. I banged the dash and nothing. I am removing the instrument at the shop where they fixed the short. Idiots. I guess they fried the circuit somehow.
  3. How do you disconnect this upper 2 boots from the heater vent access. I have one spare out of the car and its quite a challenge to remove them. Imagine from the inside of the dash where its dark and just relying on braille system?
  4. I guess mine is fried also. Needle is stuck at 3/4 positive side. If you turn the engine off it still remains there. Any clues on how to solve this problem. The fuel section works perfectly. Its a pitty.
  5. Ahmeter is stuck again at 3/4 positive side. Even with the car engine off its stuck. Any clues on solving this matter again? Its kind of hard to get a working replacement nowadays.
  6. Yes but what is the correct procedure to remove this gauge? i dont have any heater box. This was removed when the gen mini air conditioner kit was installed under the dash. How many cables will i need to disconnect to remove the gauge without damaging any cable or causing any shorts?
  7. So what do you recommend to salvage this Ammeter /fuel gauge? Can i fix this without pulling the instrument out?
  8. the glue on the clear plastic lens on my ahmeter / fuel gauge went off. Apparently the electrician at the shop pressed on the lens and now it is all over the place. Should i use hot glue to glue it back or whats the correct procedure? I also need to know which black matte paint should i use to retouch the enclosure.
  9. Still uncertain if this ahmeter is reading correctly. I know fuel does read correctly. Asides from this, the plastic lens is turning so i need to use some kind of glue to stick it as the factory. WHich is the safest method for removing the gauge without damaging any wire or leds? SHould i remove it through the glove box or through the front air conditioner panel?
  10. Shop charged me US$364.55 which included the following: 1. Inspection of the wiring to find the short. 2. changing 2 relays 3. changing antenna extension 4. Reparing air conditioner wiring. Nevetheless, when I press the horn it still does not sound as loud as it should be. Could the horn relay be worn?
  11. I already figured it out and also have an unknown estimated bill for finding the short on behalf of the car shop. Apparently former owner connected the sensor that activated the Dome light when the passenger door was opened backwards. How much labor time and fees should i expect from them for finding the short and installing the instruments and wiring back? Fortunately, the dashboard was not removed.
  12. i need more specific details and pictures to reinstall both intruments correctly without messing anything. I have short under the dash and need to trace it.
  13. Does anyone know how to reinstall correctly the speedometer and tachometer in a 1972 240z without removing the dashboard? Trying to find pictures or videos on youtube but no luck yet. Anyone?
  14. Ok. Thanks. While attempting to find the short inside the dashboard a desperate and basic electrician removed both the speedometer and tachometer by getting underneath the dash. Do you know how to reinstall both instruments and securing them tho the dashboard without removing the complete dashboard? Trying to find some images in the forum but havent had any luck yet.
  15. While trying to determine a short inside the dashboard one of the leds i had installed failed. Can anyone tell me if this BA9S will work in my datsun 240z? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01C2SHTZ6/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=AY0MC7HQ2EF6B&th=1 Thanks for your response.
  16. The dashboard instrument lights, parking lights and tail lights on my 72 240z were shut down when I turned the combo switch on. I noticed that the 15 amp fuse inside the fuse holder in the Parking light harness kit went south. Replaced it with another 15 amp and keeps blowing the fuse? I really don’t use this car that much just on Sundays for an hour or two. https://www.datsun-240z-upgrades.net/product-info/ How would you approach the repair systematically without removing the steering wheel column cover to access the female and male 6 wire connectors? Where would you check first? Looking to hearing from you shortly. Regards,
  17. Hardway, Found your step by step restoration guide for the seat in my 1972 240z. As per your experience where should i purchase the materials: seat covers, foams, etc? Any supplier you recommend? Is it worth investing in leather interior?
  18. Well there are only two options left: To remove the manifold and take it to a shop for ceramic coating to reduce temp at idle during traffic or go all the way with electric fans. If fans fail there goes the engine.
  19. Just to clarify my actual alternator is rated 60 amp. Will i need to look for a more powerfull alternator if i plan to install twin electric fans to reduce the heat during traffic jams?
  20. Lets wait for the final input before i make the investment.
  21. Mark, What if i decide instead of removing the cast iron manifold and replacing it with a header to install a twin electric fan and shroud? Will i need to upgrade my 60 amp alternator? If so which will be a direct and recommended replacement?
  22. Still undecided on the path to choose. MSA ceramic header or dual electric fans. Any benefits from dual electric fans?
  23. Yes i will find out about this. My engine block is E88. I also took some pictures where you can have a glimpse of the heat shield, phenolic spacers and heat shield extension for your reference. No bubbles at the fuel filter.
  24. How do you clean those passages? Do you need to remove the engine from the car?
