  1. I really dont know what i have. All i know its a 1972 240z with a 5 speed 280z manual tranny. How do i verify this? Should there be a plate underneath. PO does not have this information neithe california datsun. I wouldnt likt to change the 14 inch stock wheels with 15 inch wheels and tires if by doing this will produce a negative effect at the moment of launch
  2. Lets see if i can explain myself better. Shouldnt the goal of tuning both carbs is to set the float levels to 9/16 or to be able to see the fuel 1mm below the nozzle hole when both of the fuel mixture knobs on my 1972 240z Hitachi round top carbs are set at 2.5 turns clockwise? Car seems to be running find with no misfire either at the intake or exhaust but by dialing the front carb mixture knob to 3.75 and the rear to 3.50. I dont want to get obsessed with the 2.5 starting point but thought that it would be good that both carbs could be dialed equally. Another thing i noticed is that the car does not have enough power as a fuel injection car when stepping on 1st gear launching from a stop light. Is this also normal? How do i achive more power and response?
  3. The misfire issue due to carbon fouled plugs was clearly because i pulled the choke knob all the way and left it running 2 mins with the choke fully on while the engine got warm.
  4. I have the original Hitachi single point distributor with 1761 pertronix ignitor. Car runs fine. However if i leave the choke pulled all the way out for more than 1 minute, the engine tends to foul and damage the plugs. I was wondering if this happens to other users? Have you ever cleaned the innards of this distributor? if so how?
  5. I am still wondering if i should strive to get that precise measure of 2.5 turns clockwise by closing the gap a Little bit more on the front and rear float bowls.
  6. What about changing atf with 3 in one motor oil blue label? Will it nake any difference when launching from traffic light in 1st gear? Quick response??
  7. I like that transmission and will not change it.
  8. My car is a 240z with a 5 speed 280z manual transmission. What i want to accomplish is a fast response from 1st gear. After 3000k it gets really speedy. Fast response from traffic light. Maybe its the nature of the beast. I dont think swapping to holley 4 barrell 390cfm will change this.
  9. The car differential is stock from a 240z.
  10. My car has a 280z 5 speed tranny installed
  11. I already have atf in both of my carb dampers
  12. Thanks guys. I took the car out for a spin yesterday after performing the following: 1. pulled the choke to 1/2 the lever in order for the car to crank. 2. Let the car warm for a minute after taking it out from the garage. 3. Drove it gently until the temp needle got near to 1/2 4. Started stepping on the gas to achieve more speed. Results: 1. No backfire either on the intake or exhaust. 2. Cruises nice although i would prefer a faster response when accelarating from 1st gear. How can i accomplish this or is it the nature of the beast? Will pull all 6 plugs out today.
  13. Please calm down. I will test the car tomorrow now with the new rotor and cap
  14. Mark, It does not crank without pulling the choke. I dont use this car everyday. Its a sunday car. I crank it every 6 to 7 days.
  15. THis is correct. Anyway i cranked the car yesterday with the choke pulled to 3/4 for 45 seconds , stepped on the gas until it reached to 3000 rpm and noticed that the exhaust pipe stained the garage Wall with black oil. Is this common when the engine is cold?
  16. I have never opened the distributor to oil the weights. Is this really necesary?
  17. Do you think i should take the distributor out and clean it, including the base and innards? Last time i took it out to clean and reinstall it i had problems cranking the engine. I turned the key and when trying to crank i Heard a shotgun like sound explosión. Had to bring my mechanic so he could install it properly and the engine cranked immediately. At this stage i dont like messing with things that are not broken. Please advise if you recomend cleaning the innards of the distributor. The advance was tested with an air pressure pump 2 weeks ago and it worked fine.
  18. Yes i do have an ohm meter at home. What do you want me to measure?
  19. Good. How long shoud i pull the choke when cranking the engine? 20 secs?
  20. Well last night i pulled the choke 3/4 and crank the engine. Left the choke on for a minute, drove the car slowly until it warmed up and after that started accelerating but started noticing some hesitation. Got home and pulled plug number 4 which came out dark and i suspect it is clearly the cause of the hesitation. Now that i got a new cap and rotor should i clean the distributor with contact cleaner or should i just simply replace the old rotor and cap with the new bosch set? Im also replacing that plug as i guess it is already damaged.
