Has Anyone use Lizard Sound Control as Tar Replacement?
Johnny wick replied to Johnny wick's topic in Body & Paint
The paint shop is removing all the tar in the tunnel? Will POR 15 suffice as antirust and sound barrier? or is it better to pour por 15 plus a layer of lizard King sound barrier? -
thanks! my car has the same. it looks fine from outside.

Has Anyone use Lizard Sound Control as Tar Replacement?
Johnny wick replied to Johnny wick's topic in Body & Paint
Okay i will go with a gallon of Lizard Sking Sound Barrier: http://www.eastwood.com/lizard-skin-sound-control-formula-1-gal-pail.html and then over it Jute Padding! Is the spray order the following: NEW FLOOR PANELS + POR 15 + LIZARD SKIN SOUND BARRIER + PPG 904 Paint and then the Jute Padding once dried? Does this apply to the doors, roof and quarterts, replacement Wheel área, etc? -
WHich is this cowl drain hose? do you have pictures?
-
Have read good reviews on this product which is sold in AMAZON website: http://www.lizardskin.com/sound-control-insulation.html Could it be sprayed on top of a layer of POR 15 and then covered by JUTE MATERIAL?
-
Hi! Where did you got this material to substitute the Original Tar which i have the shop removing right now? I also read about this product which i intended to use and spray on after the shop finishes replacing both new floors panels and support rails and over a layer of POR 15: http://www.lizardskin.com/sound-control-insulation.HTML ( Once spraying this product, i will cut and place the following JUTE material over it: http://www.stockinteriors.com/jute.asp?Itemid=4794&MakeId=38&ModelId=313 (Automotive Jute Padding) as the original JUTE PADDING is quite expensive in my opinión: http://www.zeddsaver.com/products/datsun-240z-interior-insulation-jute-kit US$400.00 In conclusión, i want to be able to reduce all the road noise, heat and at the same time protect my Brand new floors. What do you think?
-
Mark, Okay! So instead of using the Stock Jute Padding in order to protect my new floors, what would you recommend????? The shop is almost finishing replacing both floors and i need to place my order ASAP, if posible today. AS advised previously i want a material that serves as sound barrier, heat dissipation and a Tar insulator as above. Please revert shortly.

JIM, This looks great. I am still uncertain on what to use to replace the original jute material. I would like your advice before buying any materials that may serve as: Sound barrier Heat reflection moisture absorber which i believe is the purpose of the JUTE PADDING: http://www.stockinteriors.com/jute.asp?Itemid=4794 Your opinión on this will surely guide me making a final decisión on what to buy. Looking forward to your assesment!

Windshield wiper motor bag got painted in white
Johnny wick replied to Johnny wick's topic in Body & Paint
Nice! I will tell them to use a paint stripper or remover! By the way i got 2 cans of spray Graphite color to paint the front grill and license plate surrounding panels. https://www.rustoleum.com/product-catalog/consumer-brands/auto/specialty-paints/high-performance-wheel/ Is this the correct color? Should i also throw some matte or glossy clear on top? -
While painting the engine bay of my 240z , the shop went over and painted the bag that encloses the windshield wiper motor in 904 White. Is this okay or will it look much better in the original black color? I hope the paint can come off!

okay! Thanks for the advice!! Sorry for the late reply. By the way, which of the following products sold by this company do you recommend to purchase? How many yards? http://www.stockinteriors.com/items.asp?MakeId=38&ModelId=313&MainCatId=3&Desc=Datsun_240Z_Padding

I read the following regarding the original jute: "the brown jute padding that Datsun used holds water like a sponge. No wonder so many Z floors have completely rusted through. I think this probably the worst Z problem. Everyone blames road salt for rusted floorboards, but this does it faster. What makes it worse it that it’s preventable. #@!&%! I have to dry my floor out every time it rains!" Is there any other more modern option than jute for my 1972 240z? I am looking for something that will absorb moisture, serve as sound barrier and heat but will avoid the new floors from getting rusted. Any other recommendation for this type of product and reputable seller?

Will be removing the complete engine on saturday with the assistance of two mechanics and the lifting chain. Is it recomendable to remove the air box housing with its filter before starting to remove the engine in order to avoid from getting it dented and scratch and to wrap both carbs intakes with plastic to avoid any dirt getting inside of them while the engine bay is being restored and painted? I think i read in another fórum there is a list of things that needed to be done as draining the fluids, etc. What else needs to be done with the engine once its off the bay?

1972 240z gas tank hoses available and where??
Johnny wick replied to Johnny wick's topic in Interior
I found this seller on EBAY offering a complete braided kit with all the preformed hoses: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Datsun-240z-braided-fuel-hoses-and-clamps-for-tank-and-vapor-tank-/291753884672?hash=item43ede2fc00:g:VUsAAOSwKfVXEFuu&vxp=mtr After inspecting my hoses i dont see any of them leaking fuel! -
1972 240z gas tank hoses available and where??
Johnny wick replied to Johnny wick's topic in Interior
Well i just had the paint shop take the complete fuel tank, vapor tank and hoses out of the car. At the moment i have only been able to purchase the following hose: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Datsun-240Z-260Z-1970-74-Fuel-Gas-Tank-Vent-Hose-OEM-NEW-796-/222070495916?fits=Make%3ADatsun%7CModel%3A240Z&hash=item33b46edaac:g:MQUAAOSwgQ9Vks~A&vxp=mtr I read that Z car source has a kit that comes with all the hoses but are not preformed. Which other source can i use to get the correct preformed hoses? I would not like to remove any of the hoses until i can source them all. -
1972 datsun 240z floors and rolling boards
Johnny wick replied to Johnny wick's topic in Body & Paint
Okay. I just want to know if after replacing the floor pans, support rails and rocker panels both left and right, i must clean the metal with the cleaner that comes in the Floor Pan kit, prep the metal and then apply POR 15 with the compressor paint gun? Should it be done under and over the panels? -
Both of my floor panels, support rails and rocker panels where rusted and rotten. Once replaced do you recommend pouring POR-15 before painting them the same color of the car?

Johnny wick replied to Johnny wick's topic in Body & Paint
Hi Gwri8, Just ordered both floors and support rails from Zeddfindings in Canada and both rocker panel from EBay. I hope the shop doesnt ask for anything else and start patching any other hole. Some people are just lazy to patch! http://www.datsunzparts.com/ Do you know how to apply the POR-15 on both of these floors and rocker panels once the car is prepared? Any instructional video or suggestion? -

Johnny wick replied to Johnny wick's topic in Body & Paint
Well i hereby attach the surprise i found after the paint shop decided to really get into the metal. Can someone advise what parts should i replace from the pics i took today. The floor pans and support rail definitely. Dog Legs? Wheel Arches? Member? -
Just received a call from the paint shop asking me for new floor pans and rolling boards. Who sells high quality and thick metal gauge floor pans and rolling boards? Are MSA Quality reliable?
