Frame Rail Patch Yes or No?
I am getting ready to patch a couple spots on both rails. My intent is to cut out the rusty pieces, and then use the cut out pieces as a template to cut out Patch panels with 16 ga. thickness, as per the factory metal gauge size I am being told.. For peace of mind, I will have a mobile welder come over and weld them properly as it's a structural member. Easy way to check the rails is with a screwdriver and a hammer. if you are tapping along down the side and you hear a crunch, you just found more work to do. 🙂 Eastwood sells that product to spray inside the rails, which should stop any further rust. So, what am I missing? Regards, ~Joe

Got a suprise after I got my 260z freshly painted
wow......the POR-15 I have seen is really nice and efficient steel protection. Sorry to hear of your POR-15 issues Irregardless, it will be fixed, and Sacramento is far enough inland to keep the salt air off of her. Can't want to see this car done....color is sweet and it looks really straight. ~Joe

source for "DATSUN" door sill thresholds new/nos..?
why powdercoat???? POLISH them! Dents can be carefully massaged out with a rubber mallet, a couple bodywork spoons and a steady hand. ~Joe

believe it or not, this is good news. rust in SEAMS is a real bitch. Flat panels, especially when replacemnt panels are available is the best of the situation at hand. Remember.....POR-15...on BOTH sides! ~Joe

Hello all! New guy from South Dakota, USA
SOLEX is like WEBER, in that they made different variants of carburetors. Mine were dual side drafts. Worked pretty good with a NISMO L7 Rally cam in a bored L18. Took them off, sold them and went with a brand new DGV on a factory intake and sold the car to my brother. He kept it for a few years and sold to a guy in the Seattle area. '72 2-dr., Orange with 300ZX wheels. Problem with carbs....is if they are old, then there is a chance of loose and worn in shafts, etc., that can make it next to impossible to get them to work at optimum. If going carbs, and can afford them, I'd recommend a brand new set of Weber DCOE's (40mm). If rebuilding and doing what is necessary to make them perfect....is is really hard to beat dual SU's for the street (round top 240 style). The dual DGV conversion is for a stock motor. Flat top 260Z SU's are for emissions, and can be real problematic. Don't walk, RUN from them! That said, Fuel Injection is the best IMHO. ~Joe

Try to look at it this way....the exterior panels are perfect. The stuff under the carpets is an easy fix and can be sealed and painted to get rid of the rust that is there. I ( my family) has had rust appear after body work at least on 2 different cars, but it was in areas the the exterior paint didn't show....we just did a good repair and moved onward. DATSUN'S rust.....unfortunately. I'm not making light of your plight....but these cars weren't "dipped" from the factory, and at the time, they weren't undercoated or rustproofed at all. My dad had to jack up the '76 when new, pull the wheels and undercoat with areosol undercoating cans when it was new. Sucks, but it is what it is. My suggestion, is to coat BOTH sides with POR-15 after you weld the new floors in. The body work looks fantastic! Try to stay positive....everything will work out just fine. POR 15 the new floors in on BOTH sides and no more rust! (at least there :S ) We had a 2000 Roadster that after the body work a bubble developed! (under the fender at the tip thank GOD) We poked it with a needle filled it full of WD-40 and when dry closed up the needle hole with touch up paint! never had another problem.....these darn DATSUNS just rust!

help find someone who restored 240z original steering wheel
years ago I had one on my 510. I sanded the "wood" areas with a fine sandpaper.....then wiped it down with furniture polish.....it REALLY looked great! As far as the spokes, just mask off and paint a flat or semi gloss black. ~Joe

Hello all! New guy from South Dakota, USA
Hello all! I joined here, as the Datsun bug, which has always been there, has gotten bigger now. I grew up with Datsuns. I was with my dad when his custom ordered '76 2+2 arrived at the local dealer, with the clear covers still over the seats, and was there when we brought it home, to see the low fuel light come on, and have to stop and get fuel! Car is MINT, beautiful, and a dear family friend still has her! I drove her daily for over 10 years. In high school, in addition to the Mazda 626 2-dr I drove, I used to rip around town in my brothers 1970 Datsun 1600 Roadster. My dad also had a fully restored 1970 2000 Roadster. My brothers have had early 1600 roadsters and 510's. I sold my 1972 510 after I had built it up about 12 years ago. L18 with SOLEX duals etc. Sweet car I have a 2001 Mustang GT Supercharged and alot of other stuff done to it. I'm ready to get a S30 to build up. Anyway, that's me. Glad to be here. I LOVE Datsuns. Race built. I remember when NISMO was a quick visit to the dealer to order stuff, from hot roding B210's and 1200's on up. ~Joe
