Nice car and good job, Just wanted to confirm that on a 1973 engine the timing tab is on the left side.. Last month i bought a L24 from a 1973 car.. (Euro spec.) Parts for datsun s30 are hard to come by here in the Netherlands also! There was a junkyard moving to a new location and under a big pile of junk came a rusty datsun 240z from 1973.. Laying there for about 20-25 years!! The son of the owner called hard at his father: shall we take the engine and gearbox out or throw it all in the press? Ah.. He took it out and now i bought the complete engine and gearbox!! Have now a warehouse build of Datsun S30 and some S130 and Z32 parts for my cars.. Mart
  2. This week i bought an engine from a partly disassembled datsun 240z.. including the very rare european 240z 5 speed gearbox in good condition for a set that has been meandering on a scrap yard.. Nice story to it.. the yard had to move and everything had to go and from under a lot of parts came this car, laying there for 25 or more year! The son asked his dad.. shall i take the engine out or put it completely into the shredder? Luckely he took it out.. I'm very happy that i could buy this increasingly rare engine block, incl. starter, manifolds, generator, etc. It is a late 240z block, sn:180722 or around there.. My question: It has a red engine block.. is that Original or are all 240z blocks that special blue color? I'm shure it came out of a 240Z not a 260.. Also its a euro version! No airpump or air inlets on the exhaust manifold etc.... makes it pretty rare! My '71 240z has a blue engineblock.. is red not Original? Grts,Mart

You will be left with a big bill for sandblasting a useless chassis.. Get real.. it's a lost case if you ask me.. i have seen a few of these. Walk away from it while you CAN!! Just my 2 cents.. Mart
  4. A GM part in a japanese car...pfff.... i take my alternator to a shop and then it can run another 150000 km's.. why put al kind of parts in your Z that don't belong there? Most 240z now here on the market are imported american junk.. When i see what some people do to make it work... Glue in a cracked engine head to keep the water in?? Please use the Original part in your cars... fwiw. grts Mart
  5. Hello Jai, You take out the passengerlock and pry the chrome front off.. and take of the hook on the back.. carefully because you have put it back on later.. then you put your key into it, if it does not get in completely you have to look for metal parts in there.. With the key in place there are 4 or 5 lockplates (Lets call e'm that! ) they have to sit flat with the surface.. if not flatten them but with the key in place! not with a file, use a grinder and carefully grind them flat.... clean the lock remove raw surface with 600 sandpaper or finer. Put some lube on and assemble the lock. Offcourse use the key you want the lock to work with.. Sorry for bad english if...
  6. Never lift on the chassis rails.. they will dent.. just on the 4 jack points.. and if they can't hold the weight.. your car needs restoring I have seen many 280zx with completely ruined framerails because of theyre weight..

If not... Weld it all together and drill a new hole in it.. anyone can do that!? Make a mark on it where the center of that hole is on 1 inch.. and later you can find the center of the hole to drill by that marking... pff english... Mart
  8. In the past i matcht locks to a key.. if you have a lock that does not work to your doorkey.. its no rocketscience to make e'm work.. I also used 240z locks to repair a 280zx lock! fwiw Mart
  9. Hello Jacob, Glad to read your going for the paperwork first! It will take a few weeks... and an other few "weeks" to restore the car.. Keep us updated, Mart
  10. I have seen better brake calipers from the junk yard and lookt better then that! It's time to say something about the condition Rockauto sends you parts... I would send them back right away! Junk! it is... my 2 cents.... ;-)
  11. Nice find.. but are you shure you own the car.. ( I read .. no title?) It would be a nightmare when one day there comes a person with the owner papers just after you finisht the restauration.. Here in the Netherlands... we have another system but please asure you OWN that car..

Hahaha... yeah... next time when you get new tires on the front.. tell the tire guy after he put them one right.. they Always go with the new layed on tire to the other side and change them.. this time hopefully also.. Lots of z32 owners are not aware.. Grts,Mart

Nice one, i got a 1992 euro version of that 2+2 car less then 80000 km (or 50000 miles) on it! in very good condition. If you now put your front rims on it in the RIGHT way...i would be very happy... those tire guys never learn... I have ones seen one that had one wide rim in front and a small on the other side.. on the rear !!! THE Z32 TWINTURBO (not the na) IS ONE OF FEW CARS WHO HAVE 4 DIFFERENT RIMS ON THEM.. and.. have offcourse 4 different parts Nr's.. and... have a BIG L or R on it... And still they keep putting them on the wrong side....pffff...
  14. My (Longago sold..) 1980 280zx fuelpump started right after putting contact to on.. you could here it run and stop when pressure was high.. my 1979 280zx (currently in restauration.) does not do that.. the fuelpump starts together with the cranking of the engine.. they altered this in the early 1980's... One could change the wiring from a 280z or early 280zx to the better configuration.. fwiw. Mart

In your list: go for internally oiled cam and use an oil bar. You mean : Go for an externally oiled cam? or?? An oil bar is never used on a internally oiled cam.. or do you want to do both? Grts, Mart
  16. maybe someone who used it on the windshield of a motorbike? same stuff.. fwiw. Mart
  17. Yep, I agree, you nailed it.. Bart.. And 73str86.. those 2 pictures say it all.. it looks like Original paintwork! Mart

Hello, I did not know you had to cut into the wings.. i would never ever do that.. (I hate those things anyway, they are more for a 4x4 jeep or so.. You like those plastic things on your car.. oké.. if one could go back easy to standard, you could do it (Because the day you want another car WILL come.. and selling with those things on can be a pain... ) But when you have to cut into the wheel arch.. think twice and dicide not to.. Let us know what you are going to do with it.. Mart
  19. I would buy that car in a second! What are you waiting for! I have almost the same car for 15 years now, i had to replace the floor and both framerails... this car .. repair is PEANUTS !! just my opinion.. Mart
  20. Those lines go to the NP-valve ... see your service manual s130 available on line.. (front cil is front brake and rear is for rear cil. but go through the NP valve..) Martzedcars..
  21. Must be JDM then, i got euro bumpers en they all have oval holes for the little bolts for the rubber corner pieces.. About the wrappers, not every man in an overall is a mechanic..
  22. Eh... John, On the website they say: For fairladyZ 240Z: NS081-HA (R180 type 115mm ring gear ID) I think you have worked with it? So there are more ways to come to a good limited slip diff? FWIW.. Mart
  23. Hello AL, Original 240Z bumpers Always have holes for the rubbers for all i know! I have a few sets laying around and i only have seen repro's without holes in them.. Maybe you could put a picture up here...
  24. placing the wheels right...that would be thé last detail ! Something else to think about... when the rims are put on in the right way they suck air from under the car away from the brake disc.. THINK ABOUT THAT!!
  25. Got one in silver ice from 1992.. also very nice with only 49100 miles on it... and.. the wheels on the right place.. !! What is it with those wheels.., is it so difficult to put the wheel with a giant R on it on the Right side of the car !! The 300zxtt is one of the few cars that has 4 different rims on it! (With 4 different partNr"s And .... a L for LEFT and a R for Right on it! ) (My car was 5 years ago estimated on 28500 euro!... pffff.... )
