1972 Datsun 240z with stock SU carbs stalling at intersections! How do i solve this?
Sorry for the delay. Not sure whether its the fan. Give a little acceleration and see whether the fan clutch engages. At idle, the clutch won't engage fully. Check out Welcome To Motorsport & The Z Store! Nissan-Datsun 240Z-260Z-280Z-280ZX-300ZX(Z31/Z32)-350Z-370Z Parts!, Datsun 240Z, 260Z, 280Z, 280ZX and Mazda RX7 Auto Parts & Accessories, or eBay for replacement parts. I found a rep!acement assembly a couple of months ago on eBay for less than 100.00 .. I'll try to get you the link.

1972 Datsun 240z with stock SU carbs stalling at intersections! How do i solve this?
I was having the same issue with my 71, stock su's when stuck in traffic here in Florida. There is a laundry list of issues it could be. However, I would start with the cooling system. Make sure you have proper coolant mixture/level. Thermostat is important as well. Clutch fan should be checked for proper function. Next is tuning carbs- correct mixture and air flow. Next is checking timing (if too retarded, you will run hotter). If still persists after all if the above, you might have to consider whether you are having fuel percolation and/or vapor lock (that is what I had. Fixed by switching to electric fuel pump and wrapping my headers...but this was AFTER dealing with cooling system, carb sync, air/fuel mixture)...

60 amp alternator upgrade and dash lights / parking lights go out
Thanks for the advice guys. It was the front running lights. Drivers side corroded really bad. Passenger side less, but not worth repairing. Rear running lights were brand new. Prior owner must have replaced. Cut, capped, new15a fuse. Everything works..dash lights, rear running lights and rear tail lights when headlights are on. Now to order some new ones! Thanks again.

60 amp alternator upgrade and dash lights / parking lights go out
Yes I do. Thanks. I think I may have found the culprit. Drivers side marker..bulb is rusted in the connection. Completely corroded. Passenger side bad took..I'm going to check rear markers as well..if they are bad, I'll clip and cap all and try again. I'll post some pics when I get back to the garage. Thanks!

60 amp alternator upgrade and dash lights / parking lights go out
Forgot to add one important piece of information. This happens only when I turn headlight knob forward to activate parking lights, or headlights, no other time..

60 amp alternator upgrade and dash lights / parking lights go out
Hey guys, here's the story..need some help.. I have a 71 240z. Stock (mostly). Prior owner installed the parking light upgrade with 15 amp fuse link coming from battery positive terminal. I just upgraded the alternator to a 60 amp. Disconnected the old voltage regulator and capped with the diode connector from motorsports. Everything was and is great! Car runs better. Charging well. Starts easy and no problems when I got everything hooked up. About 30 minutes into my drive back home after connecting everything at my friends shop. The dash lights went out (and the side and rear parking lights). Headlights, high beams, turn signals, dome, hazzard, lighter, radio, power antenna, ignition buzzer, brake lights are all functional. I checked fuse link for parking light upgrade and it was blown. Replaced it and everything worked. Next day, still worked in the morning. Then at night, blew fuse again. No other fuses are blowing. It happens whether car is running or not. Just the fuse for the parking light upgrade. I don't think it's the alternator upgrade, just coincidence, or I grounded something during install? Or connections to turn signals/parking lights have grounded? Any ideas of where I should start.thanks

I checked your link and it looked quite similar to your photos, and had the speedo cable screw at 6 o'clock as well. I noticed another member's comment to your post that it was 80-83zx close ratio. Back in Feb, I installed an r180 with 3:90 ratio along with new strap/mounts and mustache bar rubber rings. I notice difference off the line and I'm running around 4300 rpm at 85mph (did replace proper speedo gear as well). Based on that, I also assumed the tranny was close ratio, but I will try the method you suggested. Thanks for following up. Btw, do you know what "NMCA" stands for? I saw another unrelated post where someone said Nissan Motor Co., Australia, but I have not confirmed.. Thanks again! Ron
