I too have given up looking for braided hoses. I have some used ones and some NOS ones but nowhere near the full set. As I am proposing to keep my z's long term I personally don't see the point, as what happens if you are lucky enough to have a full braided set and one needs to replaced in about 10 years time by which time braided hoses will probably be even rarer than they are now. I think I will go for the 'all rubber look' and sell the braided ones to partly offset the cost of other parts I am buying. This is just my opinion and my car is nothing special in the history of the z car, and I can fully understand the position of those of you with early vin number or other special interest cars who might be of the opinion that the braided look is the only way to go. I am surprised that the hose clamps are seemingly such a problem. Like 240 in OZ I have found that later model Nissans used the same clamps as the z series. One of my cars is a 1990 Nissan Micra, and I have swiped all the hose clamps from this car for use on my z's. Hopefully the same situation ocurred with later model Nissans in the US for you guys to take advantage of. regards Andrew

Chloe at midwestz got me squeegees some from VB. Haven't seen them yet though although Chloe tells me they are pretty much indistinguishable from originals. Can't remember how much they were but not cheap (like most things z related related nowadays? regards Andrew

  4. Don't know about the part number, but Chloe at Midwestz has them for sale on their website. regards Andrew

Would removal of the vent tank be a problem for a US smog check? It does cut down emissions by recirculating petrol fumes into the crank case. I suppose a major benefit would have not having to replace as many of the extremely expensive fuel tank hoses.

For info UK 240z's had no evap tank from new. Just one tank vent pipe that vents into the filler neck, and a drain pipe from the filler neck to air. UK fuel tanks only have one vent pipe. This is what I am following for my 1970 ex US car as the plastic evap tank is brittle and cracked after 35 years. I have also removed the pipework from evap tank to engine block. for what its worth Andrew

great stuff Enrique, thanks again regards Andrew

Enrique Useful info, on a common problem. Nice one. Any thoughts on how to replace hinges without getting them out of alignment with each other? I suspect the ones on my car have been removed and replaced incorrectly by a previous owner as the bottom of the driver's door sticks out compared with the top. regards Andrew
  9. I have square knobs on my choke/throttle, although like most here I would like the round ones. 26thz has mentioned the potential of moulding replicas of some of the other rarer plastic parts for the early cars, perhaps the round knobs could be a good candidate for this. regards to all Abas

I've probably bid against other 240zorg members without knowing it as its not a given that their ebay username will be the the same as their 240zorg name. I snipe and I have been sniped. I don't think it will work any other way for the really sought after parts, as early bidding does seem to push up the end price. I try to be by the computer for the auction end of items I really want. But I draw the line when some of the auctions finish 4am UK time.:classic: I kept getting pipped at the post by the same guy when I was after some d hubcaps last year. These don't turn up for sale too often, and it turned into something of an obsession with me until I took my credit card in hand and decided to put in a higher offer than ususal for a set which ironically I won for a 'relatively' modest price. I'm sure you will get there in the end Texasz.:classic:

Is $75 for a valve cover any more silly than $500 for some early 70 hubcaps? or $530 for an early choke/throttle unit ( as went on ebay a few weeks back) Centre consoles $150+ ashtrays $150 blah blah.... All you need is 2 people who are desperate to get a particular part on ebay and the price sky rockets. restoring an early z to original is now a seriously expensive business if you want to go all the way. 26thz, I think you struck very lucky getting a 2400 valve cover for $25 regards Andrew
  12. My list in no particular order Ferrari Daytona Lamborghini Muira TVR Cerbera 4.2 litre Ford GT40 mk11 7 litre Porsche 917 (even though they didn't make a road version) Aston martin V8 Vantage 1980-83 Are TVR's imported into the US?
  13. chloe at midwestz did a new heater valve for me for a 240z for about $30. Don't know whether a 280z is the same. Give Chloe a ring!!!!
  14. Put a 250gto body kit on your z?

Could be a UK car then as they started coming here Sept 71. Guus, what's the story with HS30 1342? is it a car that you are looking at to buy? If its RHD in Europe then it pretty likely to have come from the UK. If the only bit that has no rust is the tyres than it DEFINITELY comes from the UK
  19. abas replied to Sean Dezart's post in a topic in Open Chit Chat
Guys If it was a UK car it would be a 1971 at the earliest ( only 2 1970 cars were imported here). Can't put my hands on serial number info at the moment but I 'think' HS30 1342 would be too early for the UK market. To re-open the 'fraud' thread here I have seen at least one case of 'passing off' of a later car as an earlier car complete with bulkhead number changed. I also have suspicions about others, but I could be wrong. Not surprisingly it goes along the lines of it being cheaper/easier to dress up a rust free car than to restore a completely rusted out original which has an early VIN. And if the changeover has been done well it is would be very hard to spot.
  20. Yeah, I mentioned Mike a couple a couple of days back:classic: No response whatsoever. What about Kyteler, you know the New Zealander who is not exactly backwards in coming forwards with his views
  21. Not strictly relevant here but I understand that the really early fan clutch ( that goes with the metal fan) cannot be rebuilt as it doesn't have 2 halves that are bolted together and therefore doesn't come apart. FWIW Andrew
