  1. If you have'nt already gotten the idea that we all think you should keep it stock let me add my 2 cents. You have one of the coveted '69 240 Z's. Nissan made right at 500 Z's in October, November, and December of 1969. These are according to Carl Beck the "classic" and most collectible of the Z cars. And they are the most valuable, if you leave it stock or restore it to stock condition. I myself would love to have a sub 500 Z car (mine is #2265) but they are few and far between. My opinion, leave it stock, if money is tight do only what you can afford to do at the time, and get it done right! Don't cut corners. These early cars deserve to live some more days and really should be kept original. Make sure that the parts you get for it are correct for an Early Z the more original and correct it is the more it will be worth. P.S. If you are interested in selling it let me know I would love to have it. My email is brhamilton51@aol.com

I posted a thread about this car a few days ago. Whoever got it got one hell of a deal. It is actually a 1970 not 1971 (check the VIN) and the body looks almost rot free. The paint is original!! If I lived anywhere near So-Cal I would have given twice as much. The only downside I saw was that the interior looked pretty trashed. I've said it before and I'll say it again you Cali guys don't know hoe licky you are!!

I've got a set off of my '70 that I'll sell for $35 plus shipping. Email me at brhamilton51@aol.com

Wow that is a great looking car for $1700 bucks!! Are you sure it's a '71 and not a '70? With the hatch vents, 240Z emblem etc it looks like you got a hold to a '70. I am very jealous.

Looks like a nice early Z. I think its a 1970 even though the seller says 1971. Check out the VIN and the hatch vents. http://cgi.aol.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/ebayISAPI.dll?viewitem&item=2409234567&category=6187
  6. I'm tempted to email the bidder this link but that would probably ruin his day:tapemouth :tapemouth http://www.strictlyz.com/customer/home.php?cat=10&XCARTESSID=c080f76aac196b4675012e58834704f7 Just scroll down and you'll see the same emblem.
  7. Yeah I think that you can get the oem emblem at any of the major suppliers for under fifty bucks. What seems kinda strange with this item is that all the bidders identitys are private. Makes you wonder if someone is'nt bidding against the poor schmuck just to get the price up. I guess there really is a sucker born every minute! LOL
  8. Another case of auction fever I guess.:stupid: :stupid: :stupid: http://cgi.aol.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2408628821&category=33643
  9. Definitely agree. Black all the way!

I like what you've done but what gives with all the popups? I got 7 or 8 popups in just a couple of minutes. But I do like what you did for low bucks::classic:
  11. :classic: Thanks DatsunZGuy, They have the exact style of wheel that I was looking for. Sorry to hear that you have'nt gotten a price quote from them. I'm assuming that you meant a total including shipping as they have wheel prices posted on the site. Not cheap but hey very few things in life worth having are. I'll try to contact them and if I hear back I'll let you know. Thanks, Christian

Maybe this is what you are looking for. Courtesy claims it's oem I am not sure whether it is or not. www.courtesyparts.com/secondtier_s30.html
  13. Hey all, this may be a stupid question but like my dad used to say there are no stupid questions only stupid people. Well anyway I was wondering if anyone in the club has sources for some of the "exotic" japenese parts such as wantanabe wheels, The dohc motors(LY series) etc. It seems that there should still be some of these parts out there and that they would make really cool retrofits to early Z cars. In case you were wondering this car is a good example of some of the stuff I'm talking about. http://rogue.northwest.com/~lakeside/home/1974260z.htm

and I thought I had a bad day today, no not really that deer had a BAD day.:dead:
  15. 1 Bravo 6, Please accept my apologies for not including Australia along with the US/UK. :stupid: I was trying to put into words so many thoughts last night that I let the fact that you Aussies are involved just as much as the US and the UK are slip. You Aussies have as much or more stones than anyone and have my complete respect. I did'nt mean to slight your involvement in the least bit and have been aware of what you are doing in this fight. I guess I just let it all get to me last night. If I ever meet any of you at a car show, event etc. I'm buying a brew for the lot of you. And yes many Americans realize what you are doing and what good friends you are to us. Take care.:classic:
  16. Sean, Well I guess that I opened a can of worms with this one or quite a few of us opened up quite a few cans tonight. What I meant by "legitimate" was countries that have been accepted into the community of nations (for lack of a better term). Iraq by its actions over the past 12 or 13 years is a "rogue" nation one that in the worlds' eye would be considered illegitimate. By their continued defiance of the UN resolutions they have given up their right to self defense. Please don't kid yourself into believing that the Iraqi people are pro-Saddam, anti-US. They are terrified of Hussein because he has shown that he is a brutal dictator who will do anything to keep his grip on power. When this is all said and done and Hussein has been ousted you will see rejoicing among the Iraqi people. We as Americans don't feel threatened by Iraq but DO feel threatened by Saddam Hussein. I do not feel as if I am being hypocritical in the least bit. Hussein along with Al-Quadia are the two biggest threats right now. Hussein's hatred of the West and Israel is a well established fact and if the bastard got a nuke I feel that he would use it (so do a lot of others) whether it be in Israel, Europe, or the US. As for Saudi Arabia and Libya that is a whole other set of issues there. The Saudi's Royal family is trying to hold on to power in a region overtaken by radical Islamic fundamentalism. So they are trying to appease the fundamentalists by appearing to be on their side. Is this right Hell No! But I feel the threat posed by Iraq is greater. As for Libya if you recall recently the government has recently denounced terrorism and seems to be reaching out tothe rest of the world to bee accepted. I can't recall any recent evidence that Libya is sponsoring terror or has a hand in the recent wave of terror. Sean if anyone is a hypocrite it is your government(France) for their secret dealings with Iraq. Like I said before this is a real mess and I'll be glad when we can just get back to talking about Z cars. I hope there are no hard feelings:classic:
  17. Carl; You make some very valid points and I would agree with you 100% if the UN was an unbiased organization. In my opinion the United Nations has lost much of its legitamacy in dealing with the Iraq issue among other things. Sure other countries disagree with what we are doing namely France, Germany, and Russia but they have not so pure motives for their disagreement. All three of these countries have been breaking UN Sanctions and have been doing business with Iraq; selling them weapons, buying their oil etc. This is in violation of the UN sanctions the same UN that they claim has to be the one to deal with this issue. What's good for the goose is good for the gander. The real issue is what is the UN's motivation? I personally believe that the UN is anti american whether that be jealously at what our country has achieved, or the wealth of this country, or the freedoms we have here. Whatever the case may be if one were to take an unbiased look at the actions of the UN I believe that this conclusion would be drawn. Yes many countries are against us but as many or more stand with the US/UK in this fight. Once again I say the motives behind these countries disagrement with us is purely political. In 1998 when President Clinton announced that Iraq was a threat and we were going to force them to comply with the UN sanctions where was the protests? There was none. When he lobbed a few cruise missles into Iraq that missed their target and killed civilians where was the outcry by the UN? There was none because Clinton agreed with the politics of the UN more so than Bush. Lastly I believe that our country's sovreignty should come before the UN's sovreignty. Our constitution should come before the UN's. We as Americans should have the right of self defense (as should any LEGITIMATE country) whether our not the UN agrees with it or not. When and if the UN becomes a non political organization that treats each and every member exactly the same the I would be in favor of letting International Law run its course. As for losing stature as a "country of law" , any country that claims that, long before held that opinion and have found that this is a convienent excuse to raise the issue again. We live in the most free pro human rights pro democracy country in the world and no matter what others say that is the case. Carl I understand your passion about this and respect your beliefs. I also fee passionate about this subject and after reading the posts felt I had to say something. I'll just be glad when this is over and WE ALL can get back to just talking about our Z cars.

In my area, Central Virginia, You see more 55-57 Chevys than you do 240Z's. I honestly cannot remember when I saw a nice 240 on the road. Heck the last 260 that I remember seeing was my own of twelve years ago!!! I heard rumors of a dozen or so 240's in a field near the Martinsville (Va.) Raceway but I havent checked them out for myself. And don't even think about trying to find used parts around here. I really envy all you west coast guys there are so many Z's out there, and most of them are almost rust free at least compared to Z's out here on the east coast.
  19. I hate to get involved in this but I want to get some of this off my chest. Carl I hate to disagree with you but we have given international law (i.e. the UN) a chance to work. There have been many resolutions over the last twelve years and the have been routinely ignored by Iraq. Maybe if the UN had backed up the resolutions in the begining with some consequences we would not be in this situation now,but that is not the case so here we are. 911 in my opinion changed everything, including how we should deal with rogue nations such as Iraq. Former Iraqi scientist Dr. Hamsa(sic?) the head of Saddam Hussein's nuclear weapons program has stated publicly that Iraq was just six months away from having nuclear weapons. None of what Dr. Hamsa has said has been disputed by others. What I'm trying to say is that Saddam was secretly trying to acquire Nuclear weapons. Other countries like North Korea make clear of their intentions to acquire nukes because they want acceptance into the International Community. The want to be considered a power. Saddam was trying to keep his program secret because in all likelihood he was planning to use them. This is not just my opinion but the opinion of many others far more learned than me. I for one am not willing to take the chance that saddam is not going to use them because once he does it really is to late. I feel that President Bush truly is following his conscience and doing what he believes is right. This has not been an easy position for him to take and I for one stand behind my President, my country, and the armed forces fighting as we sit here. May we all say a prayer for the men and women of our armed forces and all the members of the coalition tonight. May God bless them.

  21. Just saw your pics, and all things considered you got a pretty solid car to work with. I wish my 70 was that solid. Good luck onh your project, keep the pics coming.:classic:
  22. Just thought I'd throw my two cents into the mix. The crack you see is indeed the the lead filler used by the factory to cover the joint where the roof skin meets the quarter skin. It can crack for a number of reasons,(this applies to all cars not just Z's). The most probable in my opinion is simply age. Lead, although it has great flexibility can crack just like any other type of filler. In fact lead is the hardest type of filler toget to stick properly although once it is stuck it generally stays put. DO NOT simply resolder the lead with a solder gun as this will only last for a short while and the crack will reappear. I'm a bodyguy and have encountered this problem before especially on 87-93 Mustangs. Here is what I do and have never had a single comeback. First remove all of the old lead on the seam. A oxy-acetlylene torch would be the best way. Set the flame to neutral,(use a weld tip not a cutting tip) and slowly and gradually heat the lead. Use a wire brush while you're heating and brush the surface until the lead starts to come off. Continue haeting and brushing until you have removed all that you can. Examine the seam for any signs of weld stress and repair if neccesary. Drilling some5/16 holes through one layer of metal and plug welding the holes with a MIG is a good precaution. But make sure ALL the lead is gone from the seam. Then use a good quality fiberglass filled filler and fill the seam. Follow up with a skim coat of poly filler and the repair will last for a long time. Hope this helps!:classic:
  23. comp cams would be another source for the cam itself. The have several standard grinds available and you can even get a custom grind. Also I heard that their xtreme energy line of cams was going to be expanded to include the l-series motors. I have found that comp is one of the best companies out there for tech support and performance of the product. just my 2 cents.
  24. Wow what can I say you guys are pretty amazing! 2manyZs I was thinking that you would know I don't no why I didn't mention your name? At the risk of sounding like a suck up you seem to be a wealth of Z knowledge. I've been reading a lot of the archived posts and your name pops up quite a bit. Thanks a lot I 'm gonna take that formula to my PPG supplier and see if I still able to get Duracryl in my area. PPG has pretty much phased out lacquer based products but I'm sure that they can use that formula to match it with their Concept line. Or maybe I should just do what Carl suggested and go with the aerosol. Like my Dad always said "Keep It Simple Stupid!" anyways I have a very long ways to go before I get to that point. While I've got some of you in this thread especially 2manyZ's since you live in Virginia also; Do any of you know much about what they call Electro- Chemical dipping? I'm not sure if that is the correct name for the process but it involves dipping the car in a vat where the fluid(I guess water?) is charged with positive ions and rust is removed without removing any of the parent metal. I've read about it in several mags but I have no idea where there is a company reasonably near me that does it. It seems like the ideal way to ensure that what you are starting with has had all rust completely removed. Drawback of course is that car has to be stripped to a bare shell but I'm willing to take it to that level. Anyone have any ideas? Thaks guys and remember; Rust never sleeps:devious:
  25. Hi Carl! Thanks for the info. I feel a little silly for not knowing that the original color was a dark gray but I've never actually seen an original tail light panel.(or at least not that I had noticed) My 260 had been painted black and so had the 70 240 that I have now. I guess it's going to take a while to become somewhat knowledgeble about these cars. I really spent the better part of my 20's into 5.0 mustangs and just recently rediscovered my love for the Z car. I still would like to know if anyone out there has a code or formula for the color as I would prefer to mix and spray it from a gun. EScanlon if you read this do you have any idea. I'm really enjoying this club and the benefit of all of the knowledge of you guys out there. Thanks!:cheeky: metalman5117 (no photos yet but on the way)
