  1. your right about the TB, dont know why i threw that in there, just the middle of a rant i suppose, but i had a 73 240z thats was carbed and had an egr, thats why i was askin about yours.
  2. Have you cleaned the throttle body since you have had the car ? does the IAC help at all ?
  3. I know with fuel injection the ECU cannot compute extreme modifications like aftermarket cams, and the megasquirt FI is a must for aftermarket work like that. As far as the cam behavior itself, its sounds like a stage 2 cam and will want to be driven hard, rough at idle is normal for race cams, and the power comes in between 3k and 5k rpm. so if your just worried about the idle, the cam will make it a bit sluggish, and if you dont have good enough fuel delivery, you will not see any benifit to having aftermarket cams, and it may even be lean at WOT, and may even hurt something eventually with a flow restrictive exaust. Anyone else have more knowledge on the effects of the carbs themselves ?

How did that work out for you ? mine is weeping a bit also but the gasket looks to be in decent shape.
  5. Before messing with fuel lines, if your z has an EGR valve, thats the problem, your taking in to much cool air at operating temp and its limiting combustion, plus you said the plugs were kinda fouled so thats a rich run, meaning somewhere your car is starving for balanced air. Throttle body probly has plenty of carbon deposits and will help the problem. If the EGR is faulty in some way it will mess with combustion, the throttle body, and the exuast system is likely to clog up 30 percent faster or more. Why I say EGR first is cause all you need is a EGR valve gasket ( like 2 bucks ) and a can of carb cleaner with a wire brush, and a couple hours to clean the EGR. The EGR is supposed to start working at op temp, and the vacuum works it, mine was sticking and gave me all kinds of issues, I replaced all fuel parts including the tank, and my running problems turned out to be that sticky EGR. Might as well check the simple cheap stuff first. The PCV hose will be clogged to. My Z became perfect after cleaning the EGR and throttle body. Assuming you have one of course, im in california so all Z's here have 1.

Some leaner tuning, a cat converter, and a longer tailpipe will get rid of that smell, the body shape of Z's was a flaw in design, the body curves and underworkings of the car lead fumes right up the rear driver side into the driver window area, there are also 3 major points inside the cab where its possible, there is a hole up a bit from the shifter, you can see it if you gut out the dash, there is another hole just below the shifter in line with the E-brake if you remove the center console, the shift boot is another point. alot of people stick an extra half foot of tailpipe so the fumes dont follow the body curves, and a cat converter is designed to ruduce toxic fumes to a minimum.
