I live about 10 miles from the town and am going to try and see it.

what is the TRUE definition of "Series 1"
Chris, Well said! As a youth reading about those 432's, 432 R's and ZG's in articles we were not even sure they were real, they seemed like prototypes. What an amazing thing the internet is to let us look at the whole family. For me personally to have met Japanese Z fanatics, and to travel to Japan and touch those same cars was unbelievable. I was saying to myself, just pinch me, as I rode to the "Ultimate Show" last year, the Japanese version of a national convention, in a friends 432R. Chris, you mentioned sitting around in a bar talking about all the small differences in these cars, as we have done many times. It is hard enough figuring out the changes in the HLS cars, when you throw in the HS, PS and the like my head hurts. I am always amazed at the level of knowledge that Alan has across the whole family. I look forward to meeting him one day, sitting in a pub and talking S30's. Niced 1977 280 ZZZAP on Ebay (all original)
Those wheels are 77-78 factory mags. I don't remember if they came stock on Z Zaps though.

soon 2 b re-united
As an Retired-NavyZenthusiast there is nothing like getting home after cruise/deployment, I did it 8 times. Only had a Z to return to for 3 of them. Fred

Hello 70 Z one of the first 500!
Since you called a meeting of the club Chris, Greg welcome aboard. I am trying to do exactly what you are planning and 26th Z is doing. Another member of the club says it takes one weekend to prep the car for the bodyshop. That is, take it down to bare metal so only the shell is left. While you the paint shop has it blasted and painted you have to do the real work, getting everything restored to factory. I'm sure you are aware that there are some different parts on our early cars, Endo-san (Kats) has done a great job documenting some of these on his website: http://www.geocities.jp/datsunz903/ I too am like Carl in that I grew up with these cars, owned my first 510 in 1977 and 70 240 in 1980. Glad to meet another member of the club. We know a few people in Ohio so we will see if we can find a decent paint place. Fred HLS30-00040 10/69 HLS30-00095 10/69 HLS30-00793 12/69

Anyone know what kind of rims these are? I need the center caps
Those are aftermarket but I do not know the brand. Is that paint code 638? If so that is the first year they sold a black Z.

I baught the car from a real IPO! Idoiot Previous Owner!
Not only where they not cartridges, the oil they used in original pistons from the factory was some kind of fish oil. When you opened one up after 5-10 years it was really stinky.

Will, PM me and I can lend you a red dot for your mold process. It won't get damaged, right? Chris does not have a red dot for #26 or #27. Fred

Question for '78 280z Experts
The issue is always rust. Might be hard to check with new paint. A tad expensive?

Replacement Bushing Kits - MSA or Classic Datsun?
Jon, I understand and see your point. I like to save money and do the same things as you. My concern is that the number of parts suppliers is dwindling and capitalism could force them out of business. That would be bad for everyone. Again, did not mean this as a personal attack of anyone, especially you Jon. You give a lot to the community here and on other boards. Sorry to sound preachy, Fred 5 Z's

Replacement Bushing Kits - MSA or Classic Datsun?
Much better deal but we also have to support our Z parts houses. Summit does not have some of the little things we need remanufactured like others do. Not meaning to scold but we have to keep the others guys in business too. And no I don't work or own a Z shop.

Does 280Z have a lower Front Grille?
It is only 280's and lots of people take them off.

Early 240Z Rearview Mirror - Is this correct?
Kats. I will post pictures of my mirrors. If you can get those red dot mirrors I would be interested. Fred PS When will you be here in Northern Virginia?

Are you referring to the 2007 ZCCA National Convention in Daytona?

Tail Lights Always On.
There is a little plastic piece in the pedal that the brake swith hits to shut it off. If that breaks or falls out the brake lights will stay on. Did you see a bunch of little pieces of plastic on the carpet?

Eletrical grounds?
Much power goes through the headlight switch. If it has corrosion many strange things happen.
-
What would cause this?
Grounds Grounds Grounds! They effect these cars in so many ways. I had a 78 Black Pearl in 1983 that would not start. Got out the Factory Service Manual and ran through all the stuff. Figured out that the fuel pump was not working and did not have a meter (or like to use one). Had it towed to an electrical shop. They charged me for 2 hours labor and it was fixed. Problem they told me: The dome light was grouding to the frame. Have never understood that but I hate electrical. Funny 'cause I spent all day yesterday wiring an aftermarket stereo into another 78 BP that I have now. Could not get one speaker working, tried everything. Finally took it back out and found the wire had broken at the connection. I hate electrical!

Need Advice, Worth Restoring?
Buy it, If you are willing to take on the task you will never find a better basket case. But it is not rusty. Many of the early parts are different so I hope he saved everything. Fred 3 69 240Z's, 2 78 280Z's PS Welcome to the Low VIN Club PSS If you don't buy it let me know who has it :-)
