My Datsun 280Z "Rustoration"
Great build thread Matt! Really inspired me all the way through. I would still love to cruise with you one of these days, but the new baby at the end of April has really sucked what little time I had for tinkering, so needless to say, not much has been getting done. But I'll get around to getting it ready to cruise around this summer, and then I'll hit you up and maybe we can take a run into the mountains! This is one if those threads that inspires one to not give up for sure!

I figured that was without exhaust. What are you going to do for exhaust? Especially size, but make etc?

Looks so good Matt! And thanks to all for the input. I'll try the Eastwood product and if I have to try a more dire route someday, then so be it. I sincerely hope this is the 90% I didn't see!

Floor pans look almost perfect. I have found no rust in them from the bottom or topside. I'm am going to have to do something about the front fenders because I have a couple of bubbles under the paint, but I don't think it's anything to serious.

How did you prep for the eastwood internal frame coating? I'd be a little worried about putting it over the factory coating. I think I can repair the rails easy enough, as that is the extent of it, and the vertical sides of the rail are mostly surface rust, but I sure would like to keep it from happening to the rest of the rail!

My Datsun 280Z "Rustoration"
That's awesome! I did some poking around under mine, and this is what I found: 2 almost identical spots towards the back end of my frame rails. Wondering how I should proceed because I'm not ready to totally tear it down, but I'd also like to drive it for the next summer or two. And even if I was, would I really want to totally drill out all spot welds so I could sand blast the insides then weld them back on? Ughhh! Did you do any extra prep and/or rustproofing inside your rails other than the repairs you noted Matt? What would you suggest? The factory primer looks to be in pretty good shape in the rails except the affected spots, but it's obviously not effective enough! Passenger side (6-8") Drivers side ( about 5") Other primer: Thanks for your input!

Hey Matt-did you have any problems with flash rust after this thing was media blasted? I'm trying to plan my resto when the time comes. Where are you sourcing your oe Nissan parts? I was pretty much laughed at when I called Woodman Nissan in Colorado Springs the other day for radiator hoses . [emoji35] Also, did you do anything for rust prevention inside of the frame rails besides where you cut rust out? Man I'm jealous of all that shiny hardware!

I'll plan on it man! Next nice weather I'll get ahold of you and see when it works for you!

Yeah Matt, it's been running pretty decent for awhile. I cleaned all the electrical connections under the hood and at the ecu, and then set the afm back to factory specs, which was a big deal and probably the biggest reason it was running rough. Yesterday I pulled the radiator finally, and drained the cooling system in prep to change all the cooling system hoses and put in a brand new radiator (or freshly rebuilt at least) that I found in the Colorado Springs pull and pay out of a 2+2 that must have been someone's abandoned project. I've only done a little here and there because of work and life. I should be done with my apprenticeship in about a year and a half though, and I'm hoping that will open my schedule up a good bit, plus, I'm hoping to get my garage insulated for next winter do I can work without freezing to death! Can't wait to see your car man!

My Datsun 280Z "Rustoration"
Looking good Matt! I was actually in the garage today, tinkering on mine, and wishing I was stripping it to send it off to be blasted! Unfortunately, I've got several other projects I need to get wrapped first probably. Maybe next year...
