  1. laaaa laaa laaa, slow progress. man cutting holes is scary. Just got it on the rotisserie today. Lets see how long the floors take. @grannyknot Both Floors, then the rockers? Any additional bracing to the front before I give it the ol flip? the bottom of the passenger firewall that I replaced is not connected to anything (no floor yet), the frame rail that would have been under the passenger side has also been removed. I was thinking of removing the doors before I flip the chassis too, might as well remove more weight. Anything to lookout for here?
  2. When I had this issue my rails were bent, i just bent them back... pull em out lets see 🙂
  3. I have yet to pull the roof off of my car so i cant give you an exact place... but I would try to leave other panels intact so they can also get used... https://industrygarage.com/products/datsun-s30-carbon-fiber-roof?variant=42236566569176 I'm assuming that someone would be looking for a similar shape as what these guys sell, maybe just give the buyer the A-Pillar as well, its always nice to have more then cut back into what you need.
  4. I feel like socal drives fast, you'll probably be doing 70-80 mph on the regular... with a 3.9 the RPMs are going to be up there.
  5. Honest question, do steering racks wear out? Is it possible // cost effective to refurbish an old one?
  6. I really did not like the experience dealing with the stupid propshaft hardware on the diff. Personally if i had to do it again I would send it in to get fixed from a shop as they have the shims, and are gonna balance it on a machine. I think MSA used to sell a new aluminum propshaft as well... (I think they call this learning 😂 )
  7. I bought some tool ( $$$ 😞 ) to make my lines for inside the cabin. It worked out well. But I’ve yet to actually hookup the AC system, it’s all in place, but not filled if that makes sense. If you mark the lines/fittings and ship them over, I can press them.
  8. @Av8ferg have you done the starter-relay mod to your Z?
  9. very clean, love how compact the setup is.
  10. What kind of motor is the pump going to be feeding? Something fast? 👀 Check this thing out, it uses a laser to sense the fuel level. https://www.holley.com/products/gauges_and_gauge_accessories/gauge_accessories_and_harnesses/parts/19-250
  11. I didn't feel comfortable removing front frame rail // firewall on a rotisserie and not having it flex into a weird position. So I've been working on a jig. design courtesy of @ConVerTT 🧙‍♂️ I noticed that the rear bumper mounts holes are not flat and both outer bolt holes are kinda angled in toward the center of the car, is this normal? Anyone have a photo? Happy New Year Yall 🙂
  12. @ConVerTT Is there a layer of undercoating that you have removed with the copper slag? or was that paint?
  13. @ckurtz2 the thread linked in the first post has some links to the bearings that were used.
  14. Thanks for sharing the photos. I don't see it as complaining at all, its def. part of the repair process. Hopefully going with pre-fabbed parts will save a bunch of time, could only imagine how much more labor it would be having to make each of these from scratch... Does that rapid strip disk not create heat in the panel?
  15. It looks like the outer edge of the fender was made out of body filler. 😬 How has your experience been with KFVintage been? I assume the dogleg was also repaired with those parts? I didn't see any images on page 10 or 11 of the thread...
  16. @grannyknot thank you for the suggestion. I will try to approach the metal work this way. I spent time today taking apart the rear of the car. For the most part it looks like the undercoating has kept the car clean. It all has to come off of course, just to confirm. Nothing too crazy.
  17. !!! Already making typos! Yes 2014 I had to do it myself as i could see the ground moving from under the car, I was scared that I would push my feet through the floor. Here in California we only have restrictions on things that would modify the emissions systems on cars that are 1976-> Present, anything older than that there are no "restrictions" or inspections, although emissions modifications AFAIK are still considered to be illegal.... My buddy has been working on swapping a newer Honda motor into his car so hes been taking all of the emissions system over to the old car as well. Its quite a hoot to drive, I've been impressed on how cheap it into getting something that was fast and fairly reliable. Cost vs Performance its hard to beat.... I'm assuming that there is rust in the rear rockers of the car as there is bubbling, I'll take a look at the front as well... This one was from the PNW, out of Portland if I recall correctly....
  18. Alright so there is a boat load of metal to be replaced on this car, I have both floor pans from Chalie that been sitting in the attic for years, but I will need the passenger side firewall / battery tray and frame rail to be replaced as well. I don't think It would be be wise to try to get this car onto a rotisserie yet because the frame rails are gone... I've been going back an forth about what sequence things should be approached in, if you have an opinion on sequence of approach I'm all ears. I dropped the subframe yesterday, just wanted to get the ball rolling. I'll probably drop the rear tomorrow... Here is the gore so far...
  19. Em em em. The story goes that I got bit by the Z bug years ago, and made a really poor choice in buying a car online and having it shipped to me. After getting the car, I drove the car around for a few weeks... then parked it in the garage, where it sat waiting to be worked on... I then came up on another Z which I've partially documented in this thread (amongst other threads). The gold/brown? Z has been great, I've learned a lot about the various sub-systems on the car, and its at a point where I don't need to mess with it, I can get into it and drive around... I think (perhaps foolishly) that I'm ready to work on the one in the garage.... Jeez that last photo was from July 15, 2024 2014!. time flies... time to get to work..
  20. The interior looks fresh! Congrats!
  21. I wonder if a large metal trash can could hold the tank, you could then fill it with water and put a little gas burner under it... Get it to boil out any residuals...
  22. are you planning to add electronic power assisted steering? You can always add it later, but have to leave some space for the computer/powersupply for it under the dash. Did you already get the "Apex Engineering" rear end?
  23. I feel like if they are not binding, dont open them up. I destroyed a set of good ones for no reason... 🙃
