  1. Got the photo to load, but still hard to appreciate the difference.
  2. Okay, so today I did my taillight restoration. The one grand ambulance bar cleaner was actually fantastic for removing all of the 40+ years of crud from the lenses. The chrome strip was a bear to remove, but once it was replaced it looks like I have two brand-new taillamps. Very pleased with the results so far. Here is a quick before and after snapshot.
  3. well, I got the car. Then I got the flu. Then I got pneumonia. Been a rough month or so. Fortunately, while I've been laid up in bed, Ive been able to sort out getting some parts Ive needed, while the friend helping me with the car has been able to get some initial stuff done with it. -First, it seems that I got a pretty solid car to start. My mechanic looked it over, and theres not too much to do from an engine standpoint. Runs nicely, pulls hard, tranny doesn't slip- no big bugaboos. -Body and frame are pretty solid. There is some surface rust on the frame rails, and a couple of small holes/pits in the body. Even the battery tray is in decent shape. Going to get ready to do the body work in about two weeks (assuming I am feeling better at that point) Whats been done so far: -Carpets replaced. -Dash lights all replaced with LEDs. -Tach PARTIALLY fixed- works most of the time now, but about 1/4 of the time will wave around wildly under hard acceleration. -Retrosound head unit installed, with integrated 6x9 box in the back. -Door sill trim pieces cleaned up and/or replaced. -Crap mag wheels replaced with 1971 'z' caps and steel wheels. Not the right year, but a) I don't like the 'D' hubcaps, and good luck finding a clean set. Whats coming soon: -Seat re-upholstery kits came today. -Seat foam too. -flush heater core. -ordered Black Dragon JDM style chrome bumpers. I really gave thought to the stainless variety, but the luster of chrome was more attractive- besides, this car will be living in a garage for the foreseeable future, and the original bumpers only have some minor surface rust in 43 years. (BTW, anyone want to buy a set of reasonably clean US spec original 1970 bumpers?) Have most of the exterior trim and OEM side mirror to install once the body work is done. Will post pics before and after once I can function well out of bed. Best, -Andy
  4. I've been laid up with pneumonia for the past week. Today is the first day I've felt any better. Thanks for checking in. -A
  5. I've been feeling lousy for the past couple of weeks- sorry for the slow replies. I just responded. Best, Andy
  6. I don't have the VIN here, but the build date is November 70. -Andy
  7. Will do tonight. Best, Andy
  8. Hank- they came with my car, and I'm replacing them with regular mats. For sale cheap if you'd like them. Don't know if they're still available. -Andy
  9. Thanks to both of you- @ Captain- please pm your contact info. Always good to know others in the area. There's a good guy down the street doing a 280z as well. Best, Andy
  10. Hey everyone! Just joined the forum last week, and so far it looks like an invaluable resource. You guys have so much info here. In any case, after a several year search, I finally found the car I was looking for- a relatively low mileage 1970 240Z, with not too many rust issues. My dad had a similar car (his was a '72), and this was the first car I ever cared about. I'm in the process of sorting out what needs to be done, and it's remarkable how many parts are still available. She runs, strts and stops great, so I'm going to hold off on some of the mechanical things for a while so I can enjoy driving it before I take anything major apart. Here's where I'm starting out: Remarkably for a PA car, it's not too rusted out, and all of the original trim pieces are there. I know I have a lot of work ahead of me, but my plan is to take it to stock Another member here is helping me source steel wheels so I can use original hubcaps (I'm using the Z caps, which I know is technically wrong for the year, but I like the look of them better than the D ones). I'll keep you posted on my progress- ive allready started getting ahold of the interior pieces, and the cabin should be well on its way in the next couple of weeks. Also remarkably, all of the diamond trim is intact, so that's one job I don't need to do. Best to all of you! Andy
  11. Ok- just found them. This isn't what I'm looking for. I'm trying to find a straight forward pressed steel wheel that will take the original Z hubcaps. Thanks!
  12. Are these rims? Where would I find them?
  13. Good morning- new member, first post. After a long search I finally came across my Z project- a low rust, relatively unmolested 71 240z. It came wi horrible mags, and I'd like to install the original factory hubcaps (already have a set). Are there any aftermarket steel wheels with proper bolt pattern and offset? I don't need OEM wheels- but I definitely want OEM fit. Any thoughts? Andy
