  1. Oh...and this was kinda cool.... Standing inside the car comfortably fixing the firewall while it was vertical on the rotisserie ....
  2. Got a fair bit done this weekend.... Tension rod supports are boxed in and capped. DS firewall repairs and inner fender patches welded in. Battery tray patches welded in. PS firewall patch roughed in and partially complete. That's the last of the big (and complex) holes so things should start flying soon. Parts are on order for Booth 3.0....
  3. This was a fun little PITA patch ...in pics.... j
  4. Not much to report...in the home stretch of weld repair now...patch..weld..clean..repeat... My poor metal brake held up on some 14 gauge to cap front of the lower frame rail .... And they say you can never get to 100 percent rust free ... this firewall repair pic tells the story... Almost ready for lift off 😉 I hope to wrap up welding in about a week and to be a rolling shell sometime in March...
  5. Yup. Apparently the fuss is less on 74 and up. The Apex stuff is cool but it's not really weekender plug and play IMO.
  6. Thanks a bunch. I was lurking on your stuff! Coming along nicely!
  7. Getting ready to weld the compression rod boxes back on to the new front rails. Even though I have the factory dimensions I deliberately waited to have the Apex Engineered K frame in hand to "cheat" and help line everything up... Funny thing about letting a project sit ... I decided I didn't like how I had done the compression box supports so ... more surgery .... Also... the Apex rear subframe interferes with the spare tire well... so I notched it and roughed in the patch as well ... and finally...rebuilt the floor supports from 14 Gauge sheet metal...belt and suspenders 😉 Just about out of Clecos so going to have to crack out the welder and then loop back and finish up the remaining patches...
  8. Well... she's blasted and tent is disassembled ... now to finish the remaining rust repair and test fit everything. I hope to have a roller in March sometime... I did not try to blast the roof section. I'll be using the Eastwood Contour SCT instead when it's time ... It looks a lot better than I thought it would actually. Cleaned up nice !!! And started test fitting some of the ApexEngineered bits...Here are some teasers...Full review to follow... And last but not least...Black Friday BC Racing weld on coilovers showed up... right on time 😉
  9. Thanks for the nod! Good luck with the project!
  10. Got a clean bottom 😉 ... a few more sessions and she'll be clean! And she's surprisingly not horrible ....
  11. Flipped over to the DS and made a little more progress... Still finding lots of clean metal. A little spot along the firewall is going to need some TLC (I've already got a plan LOL) The rest of the Firewall is coming along nicely...got most of the paint stripped at least... Under the battery tray is looking better than expected ....before... After...Needs more blasting but ran out of air again ....but looks pretty serviceable with some minor patchwork... So far so good....fingers crossed.... PS: and the worm gear drive on the rotiserrie? Priceless 😉 (just in case you were wondering LOL)
  12. Another 2.5 hours with the blaster...recycled glass this time. It cuts great but it's dustier. 2.5 hours is about the maximum even with full PPE because it gets dusty to the point where you can't see. I might add a slow downdraft fan (but trying to keep this booth cheap and temporary).... Again...super happy to see so much good metal. Looks like I've cut out most of the cancer already...(ran out of time before getting the last bit by the firewall. It should come right off next session) Before ... She's come a long way back ...
  13. It's mostly thick undercoat (spare tire well) and heavy dirt/paint elsewhere
  14. Thanks for your kind words 🙏. I certainly do love a good puzzle...and there's no such thing as a rust free 240z 😉. ( but yeah ... maybe could have started with a better car 🤦‍♂️). (pS ... but with the kfvintage parts you don't really need much more than the trans tunnel these days LOL)
  15. Safari Gold...mmmmm.... yeah I figured NA RB would be in that range ... You have great taste in cars 😉
  16. Looks like we're gonna do this thing Spent a few hours blasting this week... mainly testing the setup before getting serious Lol...Before..... After a bit of testing using copper slag .... Nice to see some clean metal...
  17. About 75% of the APEX kit showed up today ... thanks Black Friday!
  18. Great idea. I ordered all the APEX gear on Black Friday and just got a tracking number yesterday...so soon soon 😀
  19. So this project is leaning in the restomod direction now. I sold the l28, kept my rb25det, and bought a "spare" rb25de that just happened to show up here locally....still deciding on naturally aspirated or turbocharged.... Here is the new scope...blue mean "acquired', red means "pending/TBD".... The current plan is to make sure everything fits before sending her to paint (hopefully some time this summer)...
  20. Thanks @jhm. Yes I am definitely committed now
  21. Thanks! Got busy with "life" for a couple of years...but time to get back to this old girl.... A lot of the heavy lifting has been done already (hopefully) ...
