  1. Hello everyone, I am so excited because in about two hours I will be driving down to LA and I will see you guys at the show tomorrow! I won't be bringing my car, but I will be going in my friend's orange 1800sss Bluebird. I hope to see everyone there. Look out for a 6' white guy with a blue shirt and kacky pants. I know, that doesn't narrow it down, but I hope to see a lot of people from the club. See you tomorrow, Ben

Thanks for the pictures Mike. It looks almost like your avator. It looks pretty clean to me. Take care, Ben

That is awesome Mike. I only know of one S30-S here in the states, but hopefully there are more. The S31 is a great car as well. I got a chance to look at one close up this past summer and it was a great car. However, it was a ZL. Congratulations to you and your Dad for getting the car. Please post some pictures of your new Fairlady Z. -Ben p.s. I am so glad that there are a lot of people here that appreciate the home market cars. It brings a smile to my face. <-- Ben

The reason why I feel that it is a ZL is because of the bumpers. However this could be an easy thing to change or add, but a ZL had the rubber molding on all four corners and no over-ride bumpers. A base model Fairlady Z did not have the rubber. I should have stated that it could be a ZL model and not that it was. Also, there appears to be a clock present; the ZL had a clock, but the base model did not. I believe it was an option for the base model to have a rally clock, but I am not positive. I will be more careful about my wording in the future. Also, not that this would have anything to really do with it, as rare cars are found from time to time, but there are much less base models than ZL's from what I have read. Please don't curse me on this as I have made a mistake. -Ben p.s. The trim below the doors appears to be metal. More riff raff.

A lot of people installed the rear side markers on these cars later for safety reasons here in the states. I think this is a real Fairlady Z (ZL) from the pictures, but better pictures sure would be nice. I asked the seller for pictures, but I never got a response. -Ben
  6. Chris, I am glad you saw this. When I saw the Rover, I thought of yours. You should tell us about your Land Rover. Thanks Nate for the link. I love the Mini's. He has some really nice ones. That patrol is cool too. Here are a few pictures of a Defender 90 that I saw on campus the same day. The great part was that it parked right behind my Z. -Ben

  8. Hello everyone, I know that this is way off topic, but I thought I would post it because I know there is a member here that would appreciate it. I hope that others like it too. I saw this in the parking lot at my school and I was stunned. It is such a rare and unique automobile. Not many vehicles can look so good with such a patina, but I think that this one looks great. I think it is a mostly original 1965. Enjoy or ignore, Ben p.s. We need an all off topic area, then I wouldn't feel so bad. If it is too off topic, delete the thread.

  11. Those videos are great. Thanks for sharing. Your red Z sounds and looks awesome. I am glad you are enjoying your Z. It makes me want to do another track day. Thanks again, Ben
  12. *sigh* *shaking head* -Ben
  13. Those Watanabe's look awesome. I like the stretch. I have 7.5J wide wheels that I planning to put 205's on. That is not too much of a stretch. I have seen 14 by 8j with 195 x 60. That is a stretch. Take care, Ben

  16. I used the baremetal foil on my panels a few years ago and the foil has cracked in a few places. It was easy to use, but like Enrique mentioned, not durable enough. This is really helpful information. Keep up the good work. -Ben
  17. The rear end panel is not a 250 GTO look. It is a panel that is supposed to look like a 365 GTB/4 Daytona. I personally don't think that rear end could be pulled off on a Z. I have never seen a rearend like this on a S30 and if it were put on a Z, it would look too small. The Daytona is a much larger car. The 250 GTO kits look much better in my opinion. The side vents look good on the 250 GTO kits, but I don't think they would look too nice on a traditional Z. When these kit cars are done, they can be great machines, but in the end they are not Z's or Ferrari's. They are kit cars and most of them fit in with the kit car crowd. You can look at that as a good or bad thing. This is just my opinion. Get a nice model of the 250 GTO, but leave the Z a Z. -Ben
  18. Nice photo Alan. That car looks like an early base model Fairlady Z, but it looks like a Z432-R as well. I see the lack of chrome trim on the windows, no rain drop gutter, detrimmed bumper, steel wheels with no wheel trims, the spoiler, orange color, lack of defroster, and the twin pipe system which all point to it being a PZR. However, it has the woodrim steering wheel, no 432 emblem, and the side stripe(This could have been an option on a z432r?). I thought that all PZR's had the Competition steering wheel. What gives Alan? Thanks for the picture. It is very interesting to see the period pictures. -Ben Yount

Dayle, keep the pictures coming with your car. Those are very cool cars. I have seen one Soarer at the D1 Drift competition in LA last year. In high school a friend of mine had a SC400. I wonder how similar the two are? Take care, Ben
  20. I thought this might be of interest. I really wonder how many Fairlady Z's have made it outside Japan? The pre 74' cars seem to be even rarer here in the states. It seems like there are a lot more 2/2's too. http://adcache.collectorcartraderonline.com/10/0/1/80829301.htm -Ben
  21. You are not alone in this. I have talked with a few people that had to make extensive modifications to their MSA spoiler in order to make it fit. Good luck with the spoiler. Hopefully the next will work out. -Ben

I will have to call msa because I have been looking on ebay for some of the filler pieces and I have had no luck. Good luck with both of your restorations. -Ben

Welcome to the club. The Z is becoming happier the more time passes; more people are appreciating them. I hope you find yourself at home here. The majority of the members are very thoughtful, knowledgable, and open to to discussion about these great cars. I would have liked to have seen these cars when they first came out. My Dad, my own curiosity, and the ClassicZcar.com members/forum helped me form the passion I have for early Zcars. Do you have a Z? Fairlady Z? There are a lot of us here that are interested in Fairlady Z's as well as export model Z's. Take care, Ben
  24. He said that he had a 5spd, but it does look like it is in fifth gear doesn't it. I believe that the aero ribs were present on the 70-71 oem spoilers, but I am not positive. That is only a hypothesis that I have made from looking at pictures of Fairlady Z's that had them during those years. I have not seen a picture of a supposedly original car with the aero ribs 72-later. From what I have been told and what I have seen, the decklid spoiler made by Classic Datsun Motorsports is the best reproduction of this spoiler on the market. It will definately give your car a classic look. -Ben:)
  25. Hello, your Fairlady Z appears to be the more luxurious ZL model as you have the 5 speed transmission, rally clock, and passenger foot rest. I am curious, are the flares bolted or riveted on? The spoiler appears to be an original nissan spoiler because it has the area for the emblem to bolt on. On the front side of the spoiler towards the window, are there two bumps or is it smooth? I am glad to see another Fairlady Z here in the states. Good luck with the restoration and keep us posted. Ben Yount
