I have looked into powdercoating and I got one qoute from a wheel shop. For prep, powdercoat, and clearcoat it would be 175USD per wheel. I am looking around at other places. I want to powder coat them as it will last a lot longer than paint, but I am not about to spend 700USD on my set of wheels to get it done. I will call around and post here if I come up with some reasonable quotes. Keep us posted with your progress Brian. Good luck, Ben

These would not be for a 1970 because they are 5j wide, but with hubcaps and skinny tires no one would notice the difference. From what I have read, the 1970 Zcar had 4.5" wide steel wheels. The 8-77 stands for August of 1977 so they would be for a 280z and not a zx. the 5j x 14 is the size, but I am not sure what the 3.2t D is. Topy is the manufacture name of the wheels which were made in Itchkawa Japan and then sent to the Nissan Motor co. LTD factory in Yokohama. This is what I was told by a friend of mine on this board. Good luck with the wheels, Ben p.s. If the steel wheels are in good shape and at a decent price, get them because they are getting hard to find.

I agree most with what Mark Dixon said. Get the car because you want it and then go for whether the low vin# is a factor for you. Personally, I would love to have a low vin# car someday. It is not for bragging rights or the resale value, but for the amount of information I could/would potentially learn from these cars. For example, Chris (26thZ) seems to be discovering new things about the very early Z cars from his experience with restoring his. I never knew that the early choke knob was made of bakelite, or that there was a red dot on the rearview mirror instead of a sun/moon, or that some of the body panels were originally put on the car with rivets, or about the hand made emblems....the list goes on. This type of first hand experience with an early vin# car will give you the knowledge of being able to separate and date different parts and cars down to the month. I understand that not everyone is intrigued by this, but if you are, owning an early vin# car will be a joy. I am not trying to say that a low vin# car is better either because it is not. The low vin# is just a perk to an already fabulous car. Chris, your car is going to be such a hybrid Z with the Watanabe's, wooden momo steering wheel, S30-ZL passenger foot rest, shaved rear turn signal indicators, and I am sure I missed something else. I hope you know I am being very sarcastic. Keep up the good work with her Majesty. -Ben

I bought my tickets through Mark Davey who is in Zonc, and I believe Ron Fuller of Zonc is also running the corral too. Talk to them. You can buy tickets from them for the same price as through the Rolex historics, but you get the corral passes if you buy them through Zonc. I hear that we have the second best spot in the corral. -Ben

Thanks Brian for that information on the Nissan forums. I was so intrigued by what you had to say on that thread that I registered for that forum. Thanks. The four door GC10 that I saw in LA was owned by a military man out of Okinawa, and it was a beautiful Skyline. http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=4806&cat=500&page=21 http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=4803&cat=500&page=19 The one KGC10 I have seen was also in LA as I mentioned before and it was a little rough, but still a Beauty. I am pretty sure that it is a GT-X. I think I remember seeing the electric window switches, but I am not sure. http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=11325&cat=500&page=14 Keep this thread going. I would love to learn more about these cars. -Ben

I'll be there in the corral with my Z. Are you going 240zx? This will be the second time I have been to the Montery historics. It is the best venue that I have been to for classic european cars in action. When I was there in 2001, I was looking at a Gullwing Mercedes along with Jay Leno. I wish I had said something to him. Ah well. I am really looking forward to this years event. The Can-Am cars are going to be awesome. I hope the Chaparell with the vaccum is there. I have heard great stories about that car. Anyways, I hope to see some club members there. -Ben

Brian, welcome to the club. Your car is great. I have seen two C10's in LA up close and the body style is awesome. I think a lot of people here love the look of the C10, but they don't fully realize the aggresive look of the car until they see it in the flesh. It is magnificant. Like most people have said, you are doing a great job on your Skyline and it is going to really be a track weapon. Your car is one of 4 that I know of in the states. There has to be more. Keep up the great work. -Ben

It sounds like you have a pretty nice Z. Without some of the members of this forum I would still be in the dark about Z cars... I live in the South Bay. -Ben p.s. We should have a Z meet again in the Bay Area.

Alan, I too am glad to hear that you and your relatives were not physically harmed by these tragic events. I wish I could say more, but all I can do is hope that one day there is peace. With sincere regards, Ben

That is great news Kmack. I am glad you are able to keep it. I think your car is worth a lot more than 4500 anyways.

It is really a horrible thing. I was listening to the radio and one of the reporters said that this is not just a terrorist attack on London, but on the world. I really hope that no more people get hurt or killed. This treachery has to stop.
  20. I would take the Saleen S7, sell it, put a down payment on a house and buy another Z.
  21. Matt, I love that quote too. I got it out of an "Old Timer" which is a classic car magazine printed in Japan. I am still learning about all the details of the Z too. It is never ending until you take it apart bit by bit. I bet you would still learn some things about it after that. awe well. I am not positive, but I think that emblem was off a first generation 300ZX(Z31). I am sure someone here knows. Take care, Ben
  22. Hi Matt, that is not right emblem for a 76'. The correct hood emblem for your car is in the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4558736729&category=34204 Congrats on the car. Hopefully everything will go smoothly with the sale. You are going to love the car. I am a student and I have had some problems with my Z, but when it is sorted, it runs great. I will definately vouch for it being a great student car. I hope to see pictures of yours soon. Regards, Ben
