Yeah, it looks really good. Much better than the flat black. (that is a duhism on my part) Take care and enjoy your newly painted beaut of a Zed.
  2. I would think you could get the parts for less than 700 dollars. I am sure that if you find the body parts off a good donor car in a salvage yard it would be much less than the autobody shop's quote. I wonder if there are many s30's in salvage yards in Texas? Does it matter since the insurance company is going to pay for it? About the paint, I am really not sure what to do if you want a nice paint job throughout. I wish I could be of more help. Ben
  3. Awe man, it is really unfortunate what happened to your car. I don't know about the insurance claim, but how bad of shape is your Z in? What are you going to have to replace? Ben

Alan, the seats look great, but I stockers are comfy. I haven't sat in the Datsun Sport seats, but I sat in some seats that looked very similar that were in a Mini cooper MK1( It was a Morris 1275S and it was very cool.) and the seats were very uncomforable and my head hit the roof. Lowering the seats would be a good idea. Good luck with the seats Gav. I agree with a vintage looking seat too and it doesn't have to be Nissan. I was just making a suggestion. Take care

Brandon, I have never seen these on ebay and I would assume that there is a very slight chance that these show up on ebay. I wish the Japanese sellers would post items like this more often if ever. The only place that I have seen these seats is on Japan Yahoo auctions. If you have a friend in Japan they could bid for you. I have tried to become a member of yahoo Japan, but I cannot. It has something to do with me living outside Japan. As far as a price for these seats, I think they would be quite expensive. For a nice pair with the headrests and shipping costs from Japan I would think they could cost around 1000USD. (800-1000USD for the seats alone) I could be wrong though. I am really not sure how rare they are, but I have not seen many photos of cars with these seats if that says anything. -Ben

I love the stock seats. I would not change them, but I would not add the bolstering because I am not planning to autocross my car. They are comfortable just the way they are. However, I can see how people would want to change up the seats if they are going to be participating in autocross events, races, or just want a sportier look. But if I were to put racing seats in a Z I would try to find a pair(or just one) of the Datsun Competition Buckets. I think they are very JDM cool. -Ben

here is another pic. The seat on the right is missing the headrest so they did not come like that.

Hey Gav, I know you are a hardcore JDM Z enthusiast so you should get the best of the best. Get the Datsun Competition Bucket seats. They would be a nightmare to find and would probably only be found in Japan. I know they are not cheap, but Sparco's aren't either. The Datsun Competition Buckets' would be the perfect compromise for sport, Nissan, and period correctness. Here are some pics. It would be worth the effort if you could find a pair. Take care, Ben:classic:

Does anyone know when Nissan went from cloth braided hoses to rubber ones? I would like to someday get all of the correct hoses for my car so I was thinking I would start collecting now. First I want to know what Is correct because I have a mix of cloth and rubber. I have a early 260z by the way. When I get home on Friday I am going to look in my 260z brochure and hopefully that will help me some. I am thinking that all the hoses were of the cloth type, but I am not sure. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance, Ben
  12. a volvo(920 gold wanna be), a saab(white), and a benz(creme) unless there is a car that I missed.
  13. Now you guys got me excited. Thanks for the link Stephen. What does everyone think? Should I get a custom plate? Hehehehhe. -Ben
  14. Hmm, I want to tell you some that I have been thinking of, but then I won't be able to get it. Oh well, here they are. 1. 2404lyf 2. 240z4lyf 3. s304lyf 4. Ilovemy240 (I think you can use the heart symbol for love to make it fit) 5. Zweet (thanks Zrush) I can't think of anymore. How much is it anyway to get a custom plate? -Ben :classic: p.s. I don't own a 240 so it is okay.

Thanks guys, yeah the fuel line heat wraps are original. Some one told me that they have esspestice(don't ask) in them for the insulation I am assuming. Is this true? -Ben

Carl, the ignition wires are NGK brand. I think it is a pretty well known company? 2manyzs, I don't think I am going to be polishing anything more. I am trying to give it that OEM look. It is a 260 with a lot of 240 engine parts, but I am still trying to keep it as stock as possible. The reason I thought Dando's was pretty good was because they informed me about anything that they thought needed to be done, they were true to the price, and they got my car running better than it ever has before. Knock on wood. Carl, if you are wondering about a carb mixture and adjustment it cost 140USD. I don't know if this is out of line, but I thought it was not too bad. Next time I am planning to watch the SU video and do it myself. I really do wish I knew more on how to fix these cars. School takes up my time, so I guess when I get out of school and settle down I will have some weekend time(I hope) for these kinds of projects.

Hey guys, I was going to update you on my car. I took it to the shop and I told them about the dieseling and that I had a leaky diaphragm in the fuel pump. I was on a budget, but I wanted it done right. I thought that would help if I told them that. How wrong was I. they replaced the Balance tube with an earlier balance tube and removed the air compressor for the smog equip. in the process. They also did a full carburator adjustment, replaced the exhaust flange gasket because it was crushed, and blocked off the mechanical fuel pump with a plate. The mechanic shop that I took it to is called Dando's automotive in Fremont, Ca. All in all I am very pleased with the work that they did besides the bill. They were very helpful and they did not do any work without my permission which was very nice because I was not surprized with the price when it was completed. The car drives better than it ever has before. My next project that I will hopefully do late this summer is replace the exhaust system including the exhaust manifold and coat the gas tank. I have never really gotton my hands dirty, but I have the microfiche CD, and a factory service manual, so I am hoping to do this work myself. Give me your guys input and take a look at the pic of my engine with the new balance tube. It is shiny unlike the rest of the engine. When I got the tuneup the mechanic used blue wires, but I wish they were black. errrr. Oh well. Thanks for all your guys help. Regards, Ben:classic:

Amen to what you said Victor. I was wondering if any of you besides 2manyzs has gotton ahold of the GRM magazine with this comparison in it. I went to the bookstore yesterday and they did not have it. You guys settle down because you may pop a blood vessel. No anurisms aloud(I can't spell). Ben:classic:

  22. I seriously don't know why someone does not buy these. $150USD for 14 by 7's??? In this good of shape according to the pictures??? That is a steal. It would probably be around $50USD for shipping in the US. -Ben p.s. Zsonthebrain, are you sure those are 14 by 7? They sure look like they are 14 by 5.5j or 6j to me. I could be totally wrong.

There has to be a new sports car out there that you guys like. I have not driven many new sports cars so I cannot tell you how they drive, but I have sat in many. hehehehe. Many of the things that everyone here has said I have agreed with, but a good thing about the 350z is that is carrying on the name of our cars, "Z." Some of you may not think that it is anything like the S30, and I agree with you, but having the 350z and Z's to come is a way to keep the history alive(or dead for some) because many people have 350's and are becoming fans of the S30. About a year ago I saw two 350z's driving on the freeway and I got a thumbs up from them. I must admit, I like the 350(am I hearing boo's and hiss's??), and when they gave me thumbs up I was thrilled that they were interested in the old Z's. They got a thumbs up and a trailing old school Z for about 10 miles. If I was in the market for a new car I don't know if I would consider a 350z, but a few new cars that I think I would consider are the Honda S2000, the Lancer Evolution(Evolution RS for tomohawk as it has no amentities whatsoever), the Subaru STI, the Jetta VR6, a Works Mini, and probably a lot of other cars. I like way to many cars, but my 260Z is dearest to my heart. Take care guys.
