It wasn't on the reciept, but he did relace a vaccum hose. When my Dad and I installed the roundtops we had them tuned by a Z specialist. I thought the car could run better than how it was running, so I took the car to a local mechanic that has always fixed my mom's car if needed. He must have some experience with these su's, but he is only in his late 20's. My Z is the only carburated one I have seen at his shop before. He did change the oil and and oil filter, but not the other items mentioned. i asked him about the fuel filter and he said that was not the problem. I am running a stock L26 with roundtops out of a 72'. I am going to take a drive to my nearest starbuck's and see how she drives. Thanks everyone, Ben

Hello and thanks for all of your replies. The mechanic replaced the spark plugs, the ignition wire, the distributor rotor, and the distributor cap. He also said that he lowered the idle. Now the car idles at about 750rpm. It used to idle at 1000rpm. Now when stopped if the engine gets to 500rpm it will then jump to around 750rpm and then it goes back to 500, and does the cycle over again. If it is really cold outside it will stall if not given some gas at a stop. Is this healthy? It seemed healthier when it idled a little higher. However, I took the car up hills on the freeway, through commute traffic, through town, and on the freeway at around 70-75mph in the heat and it seemed to run just as before. It does have a noticable increase in power than before too. Could a tune up really fix the problem that I described? I don't know a lot about engines, but I would like to. Thanks in advance. Ben

Hey guys, lets make the Albertson's parking lot the meeting place. Is that cool with everyone? Hey 280z, where on 680 is the Albertson's? What time would we all like to meet? I was thinking around 10am. Is that too early? If so, just say so and we can change it. Maybe we can go for a little hike and get some good pictures of the cars and people at the meet. Also, do we want to bring lunch or go out to lunch before or after? I can't wait for a drive, my car just got a tune up. -Ben

There is a pic of a 240z with an sr20dett in my gallery. I don't think there are many Z's around with that engine. The RB series swap is a lot more popular for the Z's, but again, there is not that many around. The 400sb would not be the cheapest way but there would be a lot of work going into mounting, and even then people have had problems. With triple webbers/mikunis on a tuned L28 I am sure you could get 300+ hp making your ride one kick a$$ Z. I guess you could say that there would be more haters with a V8, but the L-series engine has a lot of potential for a lot of power. There are a ton of performance parts for these engines too. I do not know a whole lot about the performance parts for these engines as mine is dead stock, but there are many threads on this subject here. Take care and good luck finding a zed. -Ben

Welcome to the forum. That is some pretty awesme work you have done there. IMO, if you want power, drop a turbocharged L28 into a Z. Finding a 240z for 2000USD should not be a problem if you are willing do a restoration. My advice to you would be to look in the car traders or newspaper in your local area, and here to watch for a 240z. And you were correct, there is no such thing as a 240z 2/2. -Ben

There was no loud noises or smoke. The wierd thing is, the car was boggging at 70mph. I pulled over, started the car, and drove a little farther. It was fine at 65mph, and then some time passed and it started bogging again and I lost power. I could not go over 40. It was quite scary when everyone was going 70+mph. Thanks for your input guys. Take care, Ben

My Z broke down today. I was driving on the freeway today and the engine was jolting and it was loosing power, then the engine stalled on the freeway. All my gauges read said that everything was normal. I pulled over, popped the hood, and looked for anything out of the ordinary, but everything looked okay on the surface. I then started the car, and it started right up like a champ. About 10 miles later the car started jolting again and I had no power. I pulled over and called AAA. The only thing I can think of is the clutch, but I am not certain. What does this sound like to you guys? Oh well, she is in the hands of my mechanic now. My Z has never broken down. I shouldn't complain, the head has never been off and I have not had any major problems before. I just hope it is nothing major, but I have a feeling that it is. By the way, I don't abuse it either. I warm the car up everytime I start it and I don't rev the engine high. I am still wondering what the problem was. I will tell you guys when I get it back. Hopefully that is soon. Ben

Very nice, it better be like new for that price. I didn't know that they would ever fetch that high. I thought they went for a little over half that. This one must have never been driven. Personally I like the white GT-R with the PHAT Watanabes:D . This is a very nice car. I am sure you will have one someday, but for now, transplant an s20 into your car.hehehehe. That would be a lot too. How is your GT-R project coming along Alfa? Take care, Ben

I am a little late on the bandwagon here, but I too noticed the falacy that this magazine/journal is informing to people. The problem with this kind of thing is that if this keeps happening the true Z story is going to be forgotton. First it was the Goertz myth and now it is s30 cars painted with the rally scheme being deamed works cars. I am sorry, but the car in that article is a nice car, but there is nothing works about it. The writers of VRJ say that it is so cfivilized. That is because it is all ROAD car!!! Maybe I should put four cibies on my bumper, paint my hood and top side of fenders semigloss black, and slap some numbers on my car and say it was the only blue works car!!! I partly feel bad for th VRJ because they are caught up in the mess now. However, the car that they did the story on is EXTREMELY different from the works cars in the picture. They should have realized that when they saw the modern cd player installed! This is a problem that needs to be adressed because it is disheartening that the Z does not get the real credit it should. I really hope you write a book on the Works cars Alan. For some reason I got that feeling from one of your earlier threads. Thank you sblake, 26th, and HS30-H for writing VRJ about this. You guys are Z car history heros. -Ben p.s. Guus, your car is ten times better of a works replica that the Z in VRJ. As far as I am concerned as Alan said is that the car in the mag in is not a replica. It is a fake!!!

I don't think that would be a problem Canton. As long as they are enthusiastic about s30-cars. What do the rest of you guys think about this? P.S. Do they have 86's or 240sx's?:classic:

I believe this is the pillar emblem that would be seen on an early home market car. I really do hope that this car gets a proper home and a proper resoration. It would be a shame if it became a parts car. Take care, Ben

It was a 2ltr straight 6, L-series. However, there was a L24 offered as well, the car was known as the Fairlady 240z. There was never a Z with a 4 cylinder, they were always straight 6's.

I am sure this is not the end of the road for this car. It just needs extreme tlc. If I had the time, money, and know how I would snatch this car, but I don't. I would hate to see this car go to the junkyard . 2manyzs, you should take it. I know you are interested in the Fairlady Z's and you definately have the know how to give this car the glory it deserves. Your kyosho collection told me so. :stupid: -Ben
