Stainless steel header??
There are various Japanese companies that make stainless steel headers for the L-series, but I do not believe that they sell one that would fit a LHD car. I know of Fujitsubo and Spirit Garage that make those. However, Stahl might make a SS header for a LHD L-series powered car. You might want to check into them. I hear that they really know their Z's and the headers are of very high quality. I am sure that there are more companies that make a header you are looking for, but I don't know the names of the companies. -Ben

Watanabe wheels
Thanks. The color is a very dark gunmetal grey. The wheels are painted as close to the original Watanabe paint as the computer could do. I am going to get the paint code once the front wheels are done because I too love this color.

Restored Watanabes
I bought these about a year and a half ago. I got them for a really good price considering that the fronts were never mounted and the rears were in perfect used condition. I have been wanting to get them on the car for quite sometime now, but I wanted to get all of the kinks out of the car first. I also wanted to get them color matched to the original Watanabe gunmetal color, and no place said they could do it until I found this shop in Northern California. It was very important to me to have them finished in the semi-gloss gunmetal. The other two will be done next week and hopefully I will have them mounted then as well. -Ben

The wheels were sandblasted and put on a machine to restore the groves on the back of the wheel. I am not sure what the machine is called though.

how do I get rid off the fumes(gas smell)
I smell gas in the car only when I fill up, so later this week I am going to have my mechanic drop the tank and replace the hoses that go to the gas tank at the right rear quarter. I remember reading a previous thread that stated that one of those hoses could be cracked if the odor is only present right after fill ups. Like Enrique said, there are tons of threads regarding this issue. Good luck and keep us posted on your findings and progress. I will keep you posted on how the work on my car turns out. -Ben

Faux chrome for detailing trim pieces
Thank you Ken for this writeup. I used the chrome leaf foil as you did from the hobby shop on the door trim, but I did not put the sealer on, so the foil cracked. I think the sealer is what makes it that much more durable. I will have to try it again and use the sealer this time. -Ben

14 X 7j Watanabe type B wheel set on Ebay
Personally the Watanabe's look much more aggressive due to the size and offset. They are also period correct as production started in 1968 and they were fitted on Z's and Skylines in Japan when new. They were also the wheel of choice for many racing teams in Japan. If you want to give your car a Japanese flavor if you will, these are the wheels to have. In my opinion, they look much different than Panasports and Mini-lites, it just depends on what style you like. -Ben

14 X 7j Watanabe type B wheel set on Ebay
Here is an awesome set of Watanabe's for a great price with a very nice lip. Some one pick them up for their Z or Skyline! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JDM-Watanabe-AE86-Corolla-510-Datsun-240z-4ag-L28-240sx_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ43954QQitemZ8025279331QQrdZ1 -Ben p.s. I know that I have posted many threads like this before, but I really like these wheels and I am just trying to get people more interested in these classic wheels. I would love to see more of them on Z's. p.p.s. Hopefully, my set of Watanabe's will be on my car soon. My front wheels are 14 X 7j type B (+8mm).

anyone recognize this z?
That is Eric B's friend's car. The guy that owns that 240z is on this site too. His name is Dave. They are both the sidesways squad Z guys located in LA. That black Z is the loadest Z I have ever heard. I think he has multiple exhaust systems, but the one that he had installed when I was caravaning with him and Eric to the Monterey Historics was just pipe with no muffler. Flames came out the exhaust on the downshifts. It was louder than Ron's BRE replica! http://www.davescholz.com/public/davey.html -Ben

Merry Christmas to all of you! I hope everyone and their families are doing great. My heart cries out for the men and women away from their families during this time. -

what do you do...
Ian, your such a young guy. You will be able to do what you want to your Z, it is just going to take time like everyone has said. I have not done much to my Z, and the very few things that I have done have taken me a long time to get due to money and time. Doing what you want with the car and taking longer to do it is better than getting it done sooner and making large compromises. Give it some time and like you said, build something that reflects you. Not many people do that and the fact that you are trying to do that is a step in the right direction. -Ben p.s. Your Birthday is one day after mine. Rock on Virgo.
