cheap paint dress up
The PO of my 260z had the car repainted in 2001 and there are some small areas of paint fade on the car now. I really don't want it to spread and I am afraid to wax it as I have heard that it can cause more damage. The paint fade just started and it is on the hood. Would insulating the hood with that tin-foil looking heat resistant aircraft sheet on the underside slow the fading process? Also, there are some cleaning agents that say they remove light paint fade and oxidation. How much is little? Would it protect and clean up my paint if I do what Marty advised? The paint does not have a clear coat either and I feel that the repaint was not of high quality. I am not planning to do a repaint any time soon as the mechanicals have me busy. I just want to see what I can do to protect what I have. Thanks in advance, Ben

S3OZ dual exhaust& OS Giken TwinCam 24
I have heard your car before Ron and it was music to my ears, but it was the loadest Z I have ever heard. I would not go with open pipes for my car. I am in need of an exhaust system from the head and back and I am thinking of a good quality header with a twin pipe exhaust system like the S30 option in Japan. If I cannot find that I would like to get a 2 1/4" system custom made like what Victor has on his car. Ben

S3OZ dual exhaust& OS Giken TwinCam 24
Hi Derrick, I too would love to find a twin pipe setup for my car. There are some reproduction twin pipe exhaust systems in Japan. Trust systems are not made anymore, but I think Spirit Garage out of Japan makes a system. I am not 100% sure on that, but this summer I am going to do some research as I need an exhaust system and I would wait and pay more for a twin pipe system. Take a look on the z webring (google search). It is almost all in Japanese, but you can use the google translator and translate some words and prices. I will dig through some of my Old timer magazines and see if I see a twin pipe system. Welcome to the club. -Ben p.s. $2.48 is the cheapest for 87 at the Safeway with membership.

You have a nice looking Z. I personally like the red though. It is a great looking color on a Z and it can still be European-esq. Have you decided to go after the front and rear euro spoilers? I think that would look very unique and awesome. -Ben p.s. The foglights remind me of old pictures of CannonBall run cars. p.p.s. The continuous rubber on the bumper is different. You dont want to go with no rubber?

Got a rally clock, who fixes them?
You got a deal. I would hook it up first and see if it works before getting it restored as you never know with these clocks. I am not sure how you would do that though. Ben

Finally! An East Bay Z Car meet...
I should be able to make that meet. Who is sponsoring the show/meet? Are these all classic Z owners that have confirmed to attend? Ben *edit* You can ingnore the first question as I read what Zron posted. I will probably be there as I live 10 minutes from there.

Got a rally clock, who fixes them?
That is a nice find Seerex. You are correct that it does not need an oscillating box as it does not have the stopwatch function as the earlier rally clocks had. I could be wrong on this, but I don' think that this particular clock would have been fitted to a Fairlady 240z (ZL). I think this would have been more likely equiped in a 1974-1978 S30 ZL. The person that I bought mine from refurbished it and I am sure that if it does not work any Z clock restorer online would be able to fix it. If you are planning to put it in one of your 240's you are going to have to change the connectors as the ones for 70-73 are diff from the connector on this clock. I hope I have steered you in the right direction. Congratulations on getting the clock. It is a really nice piece. Regards, Ben

The first Z pace car
Wow, those are some great pictures and some great information. Thank you for that Alan. I too would like to know if this car still exists. The tires on the pace car look huge. Were the wheels on the car the Kobe Seiko wheels(R:14 by 9.5 and F:14 by8.5) that were an option on the 432-R or are they Watanabes? I only ask that because they look so large. I am very curious about the specifications of the car. Thanks again for sharing this information Alan. As far as historical discussions go, this is what makes this forum so interesting. Regards, Ben

Whoa, I like it. Victor, did you get a real good look at this car to see weather it was worth the 10k that the owner is asking for it?

I have seen both of these blue Z's and they are tastefully done. The brighter blue one is equiped with a Datsun Competition steering wheel . Thanks for all of the photos Victor.

The Flame Thread
I claim number 2 as well . btw, I don't think you started any flaming. I feel bad now. This sounds like a therapy visit gone bad on my part. Who am I to scold people? -Ben

Pics from Japan
Thanks for the photos Mikey. All I can say is, only in Japan . Those S20's look interesting with the blue and turquoise head covers. I would love to hear a S20 someday. Take care and thanks for posting the pics, Ben P.s. OT. How is your Ken and Mary coming along?

The Flame Thread
I just read the thread about the pace cars and umm...flaming. There are three types of people in this club: 1. People that know a lot about the subject and are willing to learn more. Not Z Guru's either. 2. People that know some or little information about the subject that want to learn more. 3. People that don't care about the history. That is fine and dandy, but I think we are butting heads here. Sorry for pointing out the obvious, but I must say that to support my argument. There are constructive arguments, but on the pace car/flame thread members are just bashing eachother. I don't like it one bit. I cann't say that I am completely innocent because a while back I said something to Carl B. that I regret, but I let emotions take over my head. That does not justify it. Anyways, I am taking a psychology course and if I remember anything from that course it is "speak without offending and listen without deffending". I think we should all try this more often. I know that we are not horrible and these flame threads are rare, but it saddens me when GREAT, knowledgeble, and helpful people like Carl, Enrique, Ron, Alan, and others say some of the things that they said to eachother. I don't know what I am trying to prove here. I try to be diplomatic and it seems that I am ignored, but I really feel bad for saying anthing bad to anyone on this site. Furthermore, there seems to be SOME people that are close-minded towards certain opinions on this forum and I feel that as a club of friends(?)/enthusiasts we need to start hearing people out more often instead of making total assumptions about others. That talk on the other thread is grounds for someone possibly leaving this forum. I would hate to see something like that. This is not directed to a particular member, this is to the whole. That goes to our moderator(s) too. Now I sound bossy, but that is not my intention. It is a mere suggestion. I am sure I will get ignored and ridiculed for my passiveness. I am still an amateur with Z's and this forum so what do I know? I know that we really need to start listening to eachother more by saying something like, "What exactly do you mean *name* by your comment? Is what I posted really that off topic?" I assume this is going to be thought of as impossible and too diplomatic. We are educated people here, lets act like it and learn as much as we can. I am off on a tangent now. Just to clarify, all of this information goes for myself as well. With sincere regards, Ben

Watanabe's on EBay
I know that the auction is for four wheels and tires, but two of the wheels are Watanabe's (rears) and the front two are Black racing wheels. I do not know a lot about Black Racing wheels. They look like they make nice reproductions of Watanabe's, but they are not the same. I agree what you said about the offset as these look too positive for a Zed. These would work nice for a s13. I like 14 by 6.5 type B's for AE86's. -Ben

Watanabe's on EBay
That is a really high price for only 2 Watanabe's. They look nice, but I would want all 4 to be Watanabe's for that price.

Z Hubcaps restored and on my Z
George, to remove the paint I used an aeresol chemical stripper. For the taping I used 14-day 1/2" blue 3M tape. It has no curvature qualities. I used a duplicolor high-performance wheel coating (HWC102) paint and the clear coat is rust-oleum matte clear (1902). I am still working on a full write-up. -Ben:)
