Those C10's are beautiful. I know of three that are in the states (there has to be more). I have seen two of them. One was a KGC10. The other two are GC10's. The cleanest one that I saw was the silver GC10 that is located somewhere in LA. Jim, your C10 . Perfect. These are the best pictures that I have seen of it. About how many are there in Aus? Are there quite a few of the early Prince Skyline's down under? Thank you for the photos. -Ben

EOI watanabe 15x8.5"
I have a 7.5j for the rear and 7j for the front. They will not look ricey. When I think of rice, I don't think of tasteful modifications. Watanabe's in any size on any early Z or Skyline look great, but never ricey. There was no harm done, just sharing my opinion. I would love to have a track car, but it is not feasible now. Ben p.s. Lachlan, I prefer 9.5j wide for the rear with over-fenders. 8.5j up front please. 12j is just showing off, but it would be super cool .

gotta sell my 69 fairlady
Carl, you have got to be kidding about the value of this car. Here we have an extremely early Fairlady Z and you think it is worth what a normal 240z is worth in need of a restoration. That is absolute blasphemy! If this were a thread about an early 240z, people would be interested, but nowhere near as interested as people are SINCE it is a Fairlady Z. Get with the program; most people love Fairlady Z’s. I prefer not to criticize people, but you have just put down everything that I believe in as far as Z’s go. The difference between you and Alan, is that you get defensive and say that Fairlady Z’s are an afterthought and that they don’t matter because they were only sold in Japan. With Alan, it is clear that he has an interest for the home market cars, but he still talks with the utmost respect about export models. I have talked with Matsuo-san personally and he told me that the Z was meant to be a worldly car; one that would be acceptable in all countries. Thus, each export market had a slightly different variation. Where do you get that it was only intended for the US? It is very arrogant to say that. It is quite clear that the domestic market got the best of the variations. Not only did they get the best, but also, they got the most pure of them all. You know all the specifications; so I don’t need to spoon-feed you which engines, bodies, and other options that the JDM cars have that make them SUPERIOR to the export cars. Your site has very little information on Fairlady Z’s, and the information that it has seems as if it was extracted from Brian Long’s book. It is sad that there is not a website (not forum) that is truly dedicated to the Fairlady Z’s that is in English. We have all these Internet capabilities, yet most of the world outside Japan is still in the dark about these magnificent cars; I am still in the dark about them as I am learning slowly. Carl, you are a person with a wealth of knowledge on the subject of the early Z’s, but it seems that you would not mind just ignoring everything Fairlady Z. You say you do not mind people posting on Zhome about JDM cars, but you are not very assuring. You also may argue about the early Works rally cars as being 240z’s and not being home market cars, but they are much more of a 432-R body than a 240z. I love Z’s in general, but I am most interested in Fairlady Z’s as I strongly believe that they are the purist form of a Z. I don’t think I will ever part with my 260z, but I plan that it will be my first and last export model. This is not only for my interests, but for the interests of others who like me, have been in the dark about Fairlady Z’s. -Ben

gotta sell my 69 fairlady
I didn't know that a 5-speed was availible in a US export 260z model? I thought that it was not until the 75' 280z that there were 5-speeds. Maybe a late 260z had a 5-speed? NOVA, I wish you the best of luck with selling your car. It is a very special car indeed. Regards, Ben

GRM 240Z vs 350Z comparo
Bryan, there are some other threads that you should read. People that are educated on the issue disscuss and depate that the Z was designed as a Japanese car with America in mind. http://new.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4784&page=1&pp=15&highlight=ergonomics http://new.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5441&highlight=ergonomics There are more threads that I am thinking of, but I cannot find them at the moment. -Ben

OT - New wheels for the roadster
I agree. These wheels look really nice. I saw a Levin at the JGTC USA event and it had the same wheels, but the center part was red. I like the way yours look. You have very nice taste Victor. Take care

I am curious about the second auction that you posted Lachlan. Did a few RHD exports come with the fender mounted mirrors?

starting the 240
I have been reading this thread, and it seems like my problem would fall under here. My 260z has been having starting problems in the cold. It takes a while to start it, but if finally does. This only happens when it is really cold out. I have a new battery, alternator, voltage regulator, and the gas is getting to the engine fine. The carbs are in tune. I took it to the shop because the battery went dead, but only as much as it would not turn the starter motor over; everything else worked. This was after installing a new battery, and the mechanic charged the battery and he could not find anything wrong. He thinks that the battery was not charged properly since that battery has to be trickle charged for a day, and it was not from a store. However, the car did get an oil change, but I am not sure what type of oil it was. I have been driving the car for a little over a week now, everyday and the only problem I have been having is starting it. Does this seem like an electrical problem to anyone? It had a tune up not too long ago, and the battery cables are fine. I also noticed that when the engine is turned off the Amp meter registers right down the middle. When I start the car it goes toward the +60, but only a little bit. The gauge also moves when the blinkers are on. Always towards the +, but not by much. When I rev up the engine while stopped, I notice that the lights get a little brighter. Am I being overly paranoid, or do I have something to worry about? I am going to get one of the test lights tomorrow at Kragen to see if there is current being drawn somewhere. -Ben

Whats your cars theme??
I want my car to be as if a racing enthusiast in Japan during the mid-70's would have made it, yet keeping the body completely stock. I like the patinad look, so everything does not have to be perfect, rather perfectly worn. That doesn't mean that I don't like the shiney paint because I do. I have the Watanabe wheels that will hopefully be on the car before mid April, the Datsun Rally shift knob, and the Rally calander clock. I am hoping to replace my driver's seat with a Datsun competition bucket, and take the new seat cover off of the passenger side and replace it with one of the original faded (not torn) seat covers that I have in my room. However, I do want to go for the completely stock look as I love the steel wheels and caps, so I would like to switch between the two. My theme for the car is an interpretation of vintage JDM, but I really have an appreciation for many types of themes. Like I said, I want two themes; Vintage JDM and Stock. -Ben

HELP! Brake lights permanently on
I had the same problem with my Mom's VW Jetta. It was the brake switch. Luckily, VW fixed it at no charge. I wish I could help you more with this, but I would bet that it is the brake switch or pedal switch like you mentioned. -Ben

Unloading

Matsuo-san signed visor
From the album: 1974 260z (RLS30)
This is my passenger side visor that Matsuo-san signed for me while at the 2004 National Z convention. He was on his way back into the Hilton when Chris Wenzel was getting his '26th' visor signed. I had to get mine signed as well. -
Stickers
From the album: 1974 260z (RLS30)
Here is a 2004 national Z convention Ultimate Z Car Club of Japan sticker. The one next to it say 'Ultimate Akamatsu'. Mr. Akamatsu gave this to me and I have another one, but I am planning to keep that one for the car after it is restored (est. 7yrs). -

Aussie 240K on Ebay
This is such a cool car. I know of one c110 in the states who is a member here. I have also heard that there is a KPGC110 on the east coast (florida), but I am not sure on that as it is rumor. 3k is expensive for this car? This car would get snatched up in a heartbeat for that price in the states. There are so many cool old Japanese cars. I am never going to have a large enough garage for them. I guess I will settle for Tomicas', errr. -Ben

CSP311 Silvia on ebay
This is a really neat little car. I saw one a few years ago that needed a restoration. It is definately something special. I wonder how a few examples of that car has gotten to these shores, but not really rare Z's (there could be some for all I know, just none I have heard about. I have only heard of Les having an S20, but that is only a rumor. I would like to call and ask him, but school is errr.) Someone buy this car! Or at least ask for more detailed pictures. I too do not like the painted bumpers or the wheels. Is this an original color? It looks too bright. I have only seen pictures of silver ones. I cannot remember the site, but there were pictures of a Japanese police version. How cool would that be!?!? I love it, Ben

rally monte carlo- historic 2005
WOw. Thank you Guus!!! THose pictures are really exciting. It is great to see some Z's in rally colors. BTW, where was your car? Have you done this historic race before? It was sad to see the No. 311 car in the ditch . I wish we had rallies like that here in the states. It would be great to see these cars in their element. Have you met Tony Fall? Europe is lucky to have these races that the greats still participate in. Thanks again Guus, Ben

Watanabe RS-8's on EBay, buy it now $800
If these are in great shape, the buy it now price is an unbeatable deal. The seller should post better pictures. Someone with flares, go for them! p.s. My set will cost me much more than this when painted. The nuts are really expensive too. It doesn't get nicer than 14" R-type IMHO. p.p.s. Pete, did you ever find a set of Watanabe's for your Z? -Ben

Your Z looks really nice. The stance is perfect. Do the wheels or tires rub the rear struts? Where are the 'Z' vent emblems?

Police Version
I am with you Chris. This is a great thread. The Cosmo cop car is very cool. I remember seeing pictures of an early Silvia in police form. Thank you Alan for the information on the Fairlady 240ZG. Those are the pictures, and it was out of the February, 2005 'Old Timer' magazine if anyone is interested. Ben
