For a little more protection, but not as much bulk as the 280z bumpers you could swap early 260z bumpers onto your car. They will be a lot easier to find and less pricey than the super smooth chrome 240z bumpers. Personally, I like the 240z bumpers with the rubber, but without the overriders. Ben

This would be the 218,079th LHD 2 seater HLS30 version produced, starting from the first LHD 240z to his 75' 280z. To be really specific, it would not include 260'z, 2/2, and the any RHD drive car regardless of market.

I was talking with a friend of mine who grew up in Japan in the 70's and he said that he saw Fairlady ZG cop cars a lot, but he never remembers seeing a Z432 patrol car. I found a picture of a 240ZG patrol car in the recent issue of Old Timer. I will make a scan and post it this weekend. Does anyone have pictures of more police Z's? Lachlan, I was not able to look at the auction link that you posted. If it is not too much trouble, could you post the pictures that were from the auction? Thanks in advance. Jason, it would be awesome to make a replica of one of the Fairlady Z patrol cars, but It would have to be close or identicle to the original to pull it off. The steel wheels and all. This is just my opinion. Regards, Ben
  5. Hi Gav, I don't mean to be picky, but it is "TC-24". As far as Mr. Akamatsu's Z goes, he told me that it is a 2.9 ltr engine. Once again, I really don't want to be picky. Ben
  6. Thanks for the link Phill. I don't think that Z that is chasing the TC16 powered Bluebird is Mr. Akamatsu's. If you look carefully you can see that the lights are from an earlier car. I could be wrong. It is great that more people are getting interested in these engines. I have learned more about them since you started the other thread. Thanks for sharing the videos. I really hope I didn't seem like I was demeaning because I was not trying to be. I really don't know much about the subject, and I would like to learn more. Take care, Ben

To answer your question Lachlan, I do have a favorite. I am going to have to choose the first Mercedes Benz 300SL Gullwing with the Rudge wheels. They were at the time, Mercedes's knockoff wheels for racing. Ben
  8. Hi Chris, you are correct.

Thansk for the link Rob. Lachlan is going to have to see the photos from this link. There are some CRAZY beautiful Alfa Romeos. I love 1300 GTA- the first red Alfa. Is that the right name? OMG, I am just amazed. The bikes and the cars. I really have to go to a concourse one day. Check out the F40. -
  10. Thanks for providing the link. That was a really great video. I would have loved to see some of those cars in action. The red Fairlady Z in the beginning with the LY crossflow head is a 2.9 liter engine and the car belongs to Mr. Akamatsu. It is a very stunning car. It sounds extremely sexy. Take care, Ben p.s. The Datsun 510/Nissan Bluebird are really great cars. The Bluebird with the TC16 in this video is even more special.

It is too bad that this car did not get a nice home. If there were better pictures of the car it may have gotten more attention. I talked with seller and according to the ID plate on the door jam, it was made the same month as my car- 5/74. How cool is that. Ben

I do not have experience with this, but a friend of mine has a 240z and his bumpers were painted the color of the car and the officer was saying that there were no bumpers. Granted, the officer did not know what he was talking about because the bumpers were there, but if there were no bumpers, the officer would have most likely sited him. I think bumpers look good, but if you have an early 260z and you really want it to look clean with bumpers you could take the bumper shocks out and mount the bumpers like a 240z. There is a member on this site that did that. You could even go further and take off all the rubber on the bumpers, or find a front and rear euro bumper. These are just some suggestions. Ben
  13. OMG, can she say back problems. I agree with you Carl, the firetruck would be much less maintainance. This little firetruck is neat. I could see it being in Old Timer magazine, which is a great Japanese magazine filled with old home and export cars. Many of the Japanese cars that are in the magazine have a neat history like this one. The cool thing about that magazine is that there is usually a 5-6 sentance caption in english talking about the article. Of course the rest is in Kanji, but it is cool that there is a little english. -Ben

I think someone that is interested in buying this car should be weary about the mileage, but they would truely find out its condition by taking a look at the car (a duhism on my part). However, the interior is in prestine shape and that is very rare. For instance, the carpet appears to have hardly been subjected to sunlight. This could be from just garaging the car all the time, very low mileage as stated, or the owner bought new carpet. I truely think the carpet is original to the car because it is not easy to come across this carpet. The paint also looks to be in prestine shape; it could be from low milage, or just well maintained, or a combination of both. I am not trying to take sides, but I do feel that this is a low mileage car. It has all the original hoses. That is extremely rare, and they look like they are in nice nick as well. These are just some thoughts. I would love to see better pictures of this car when it is cleaned up and in the sun to really test these theories. Take care, Ben p.s. I hope it finds a great home.

That is a georgous seat. You are right Victor, it is the Datsun Competition bucket (87000-U0175). I am not sure if it is an original or if it is a Nismo reissue. If they are selling Nismo reissues, I think they would cost a lot more since the US dollar has depreciated so much and 700USD would be a great deal for one of the new reissues since Nismo Compe reissues changes hands around 400-500USD. Thanks for sharing the site. It is a great site. Ben

I like it Jared. It was nice of you to share. It reminds me of how much passion I have for the S30. Whether people like the poem or not, most of us still share the same passion for the Z that you do, and that is why we are here. Ben p.s. It would have been cool if you said 240, 260, 280, Fairlady.. Hahaha, I am not saying you should change it as it is your work, just putting in my opinion.

I believe that it was in October of 74'. A 73' North American spec Z had smaller bumpers than an early 260z, but they are different. The early bumpers on this car are 3mph bumpers. The later version and 280z's had 5mph bumpers. Ben

That would be great. I hope I didn't come off the wrong way. I would not want to make you feel bad and we are all learning. I am not sure on the 280z towers. Marc, what do your towers look like? Regards, Ben

oops, I posted twice. I can't delete either.

The 260z did come with brown carpet. I was under the same impression that you were when I first got the car, but the more I looked at the carpets, the more convinced I am that they are indeed OEM. The 260z had diamand vinyl in all the same places as the 240z's except for the strut tower areas as you pointed out. I truely believe that the carpet and the vinyl is original on this car. The hatch carpet looks like it has not seen much sun. -Ben p.s. I don't think this car will fetch 20K. I would like it too, but people don't appreciate 260z's like they appreciate 240's. I would be surprized if it got close to 10k. I hope the buyer keeps it all original as a time capsule.

That is a beautiful 260. It is just like mine. Oh I wish my car was that original and in such nice shape. Look how close the vin# is to mine- that car was made not too long after mine. It is georgous. A little cleaning and detailing would make this car stunning. I would try to leave as many of the parts as original as possible though. I like the slight patina of this car. The black engine bay could be from the Zbarr that was put in by the dealer(?). My car had this. It was to protect against the water and salt. Lachlan, where do you see that the vinyl and carpet was replaced? They both look original to me. This has gotten me excited. It is not a 240z, but it is a great car and the chance of finding a nice original car is dwindling, especially a 260z. Ooh, this has gotten me excited. Ben
  23. Awe man, I was thinking of going this year, but I just cann't. It is on my Mom's Birthday every year. I want lots of pictures from you guys. I would love to meet you all and see your Z's in the flesh. Regards, Ben
  24. Here is a link to AE86 wheel guide, but I have seen a lot of the wheels on Z's before. Victor, I am not sure how many if any besides the Wats were availible in the 70's. Do you know? http://www.club4ag.com/faq%20and%20tech_pages/Wheel%20Guide.htm Some of the other wheels that I came up with: 8-spoke design: 70's-JDM-Magroad 70's-Enkei 14 by 7j zero offset) I am not sure if they are 70's, but I think they are-JDM-Black Racing Steel wheels: 14 by 7j steel wheels. I am not sure if these are Nissan steel wheels with wider rims or if they are made by a different company altogether. Slotted mags: many types, and sizes. British wheel company: Cosmics. I know these were popular on Minis', but there were supposedly a 14" version that was used on Z's in england (I read this on Zparts.com, but I have never seen a set on a Z.) -Ben p.s. Hopefully I can think of some more wheels later.
  25. Prox, I know that you mentioned a few classic wheel types for the Z, but there are a ton more that you are probably aware of and I think it would be helpful if we started a thread on the various vintage and period correct wheels for the S30. This could have the potential to be a huge thread, but I think it would be very helpul and interesting for people looking for old school wheels. Victor has a really nice set of old school wheels on his Z. Ben p.s. Kobe Seiko (way way too expensive)
