  1. And yes.. those seals are at a crazy price!!
  2. I think not to important as the 280zx has none.. But then again, it's a different car.. I thought about this and i would use some rubber from for example a car inner tire or some other flexible rubber that is about a mm thick. Some inner tire from a mountain bike.. get it for free at the bike store! (ask for a leaky one) Maybe you can make something out of them with some (black)rubber glue? Don't need to look beautiful! It's just a sock for the hinge! πŸ‘
  3. Yup.. and now a piece of plywood 3mm over it otherwise the box of cardboard is to weak/flexible.. I doný know how the postmen over there are but they throw things.. they don't care. 🀬
  4. Also.. watch out behind the spring is a ball bearing ball! leave it in! Don't loose it! πŸ™‚ (Adding: this spring is holding your 5th speed in position and it no longer jumps out of gear.. Also, if you have balance trouble in your powertrain (shaking stick..) it's also a cause for falling out of gear. Then you have some extra work to do.. )
  5. In the main plate (between the 2 halves) are two springs behind short bolts (or one i don't remember) and it's got to short.. best to install a new one or as i ones did. you can make the spring longer again with a side cutting set of pliers.. just pinch the spring with the wirecutter between the windings. (translationproblems haha. hope you understand what i'm saying/meaning to say!) Measure the length before and after, ad some 3-4mm i think..guess.. (1/8 inch!)
  6. Elaborate.. Is there a spring on the pedal? or you mean the one on the slave-cylinder? on the new slavecylinders the spring is IN the cylinder.. iirc?
  7. Ofcourse you mean: the engine didn't start. cranking is when the engine turns with the help of the startermotor.. Or "is i" stupido? tell me i'm not offended You checked the ignition by using the (very) old one that ones was replaced? it wasn't replaced for nothing.. Get yourself a complete set for the ignition, loan one or buy one, a loaned one of a perfect working car would be best as you now can be sure it is a good one! ( a old laurel or other 2400cc car can get you one..) maybe someone on your local market can help you.
  8. About 7 years back i had the opportunity to buy a set of 3.. those were the last ones orig nissan.. I think these pumps are for a laurel Datsun 2400.. they look the same as a 240z fuelpump and are compatible! I have 2 for sale at 350 euro a piece.. yes i know not cheap but as you guys say.. find one.. sorry.. I looked the partnumber up and it is a Laurel pump.. If you want you can use a old top on the new pump as the only difference is the fuel out- (or in-?) let. Price is also so high because i hate to send stuff to the states.. it feels like bringing water to the see.. 😫
  9. Without the spacer the pump can't pump at full capacity as the arm is to close to the rondell on your camshaft! Also the pump can get to hot .. then you will need a new pump.. watch out for the cheap pumps on ebay.. they only last for a short time. (I got the original pump on my 240z now for 50+ years..unbelievable!) Get yourself a new nissan orig. pump if it's damaged.
  10. send it on a piece of plywood i would advice...
  11. Oh well that's your good right but tell me have you ever then tested another ignition system on your engine? (sorry if you have i didn't read the whole text as i'm tired.. and to lazy haha) Now you don't/can't know if it's any good... Do i need to tell the story of the guy with the Mercedes block allover again, he was also convinced it was a good block.... NEVER EVER go out that some parts are okay because you bought them new.. they can't be a piece of S**T.. The most important thing in finding a mall function is to check everything. And never asume something shoud be good because it was a new part. (Lesson i learned not long ago.. Few years ago i installed a new clutch slave cylinder.. on my 280zx.. And a week later i tried to use it as i needed to switch the direction of the car on my lift.. the clutch worked no longer! (There was a puddle of oil under the car! There was a crack in the slavecylinder!! Then i took the old box out of the "round archive" (wastebin πŸ˜‰ ) and saw on the box: made in Italy.. I already had a giant dislike to italy parts and stuff but now i really hated them.. Makers of JUNK! )
  12. 🀣 Ah.. that's what you mean... okay! πŸ‘
  13. That's the one i ment.. (the bend in the left lower corner) what's the other one then?? There are 6 parts.. 3 little connectors and 3 big.. (= 2 cornered strips 1 longer top part..)
  14. Take all.. i mean ALL the aftermarket junk off the car.. (Ignition) get yourself some original parts and i say: you will have NO LONGER a PROBLEM.. yes..it will not be easy but do-able.. When people start about a ignitor induction coil from "ignitor" with twice the power or so, i instantly get a headache! Same with those stupid aftermarket distributors.. YES YES i know some of you have one that works well but only some do.. I drive my 240z for 20+ years, summer and winter, most winter.. and never had a problem with normal contacts in the ignition. (Last year i renewed the contacts for the first time in 20 years+ and around 20-25000km or something like that..)
  15. Oh.. ( and as i am awake this morning..) hihi.. it just DOES need to have ONE bend..
  16. so even when you stand in front of your car the left fender is.. on the right.. Right? πŸ˜‰
  17. Hey Wally... you mean the left side.. (we (tech's) ALWAYS look at it from the driverseat.) so your driversdoor is always the left door (england..shut up!! hihihi... yeah yours hangs on the right side..) But even the left fender is in england on the left side..
  18. Has No use at all.. (It's like bringing a dead horse some water..) Guys guys.. it has no use at all.. when my engine would give me 80's psi's i would revise it or throw it away.. as this is a completely dead engine. Write a letter to california Datsun and thank him for the useless engine, with the measured compression data.. and tell him you are going to make a lot of "advertising" for him.. If he is wise he should help you as i understand the engine was always crap!?
  19. Remember the maker of the 300zx z31 cabriolet, it was Straman.. I wonder if they made 280zx cabriolets/convertables?
  20. Oh.. i see it's a old topic.. i once could buy a 300zx cabriolet/convertible, also done by a american specialist but it was another one.. forgotten the name of it.
  21. Also i bet you had to pay the guy more than 30 bucks.. When you would have bought the meter yourself you had one now to do many many other engines as well.. I also think, and don't get me wrong, someone who wants to drive a classic car needs to have some skill's to work at these old cars.. otherwise it's gonna cost you a LOT in a short time. (Also often garages don't understand these cars anymore. all they want is put an analizer to it.. well good luck there! 🀣 )
  22. Hah! I think it was a BROKEN compression tester.. You normally do this in Psi? we do it in bar or ato or KPa. you need to have around 150 Psi on a healthy engine.. so look for a good compression tester.. i bought one many years ago for about 30 bucks.. a GOOD INVESTMENT!!! Take out all plugs, start for about 10 sec. (try to lay the meter so that you can see it come up..) and test them yourself. (And remember, can't do it myself.. does not excist in your vocab! )
  23. I haven't read the whole story but do a comp.test .. first cold then one hot and note all findings here.. that would be the day that we don't get an answer!! Together we'll get it out of that engine what is wrong!!! 8 years is rediculous..
  24. Haha funny, you know, lots of fun to get some directional tires for your 300zxtt.. and just say nothing to the tire guy.. 8 of 10 times it go's wrong.. they install the right direction but on the wrong side, then they have to take off the tire again and turn it around to get it right on the right side! The last time i had new tires they where from the directional sort.. and you really have to scratch yourself behind the ears.. left forward direction on left and right direction on the right side rims.. and then the wide ones at the rear.. pfff.. believe it or not but there was a 300zxtt ending with the wide rims on the right side and the smaller rims on the left side.. all tires where 225/50zr16's and.. the customer was not amused as it drove like complete SH*T.. 🀬 Most tire guys take off one wheel and put a new tire on.. then they go to the next wheel and put the new tire/rim on there and then go to put a new tire on the 2'nd wheel and go to the third wheel and so on.. if you do this with a 300zxtt you end up with the wide rims on one side of the car... it's soooo much fun!!
  25. When putting up new tires... watch the BIG L and R on the RIM's Take a good look at the wheels of the silver one.. those front wheels where put on the wrong side of the car! (Design is a left and a right one!) These non turbo's have 2 different wheels iirc they end on 05 and 10 where the Twin turbo has even 4! different wheels, they end on 05 10 15 and 20! As the rears are wider! (orig. tires are 225/50zr16 on the non turbo and on front of the twin turbo. rear's on the twin are 245/45zr16's ) At "bring a trailer" there is the "wheel police" Haha 🀣 Always making a lot of noise about the wheels on wrong! A Nissan 300zx twin turbo is one of the few cars that have 4 DIFFERENT wheels on!! Even a Porsche 911 does not have that! (as far i know..) This would be a left hand wheel but Porsches have these also on the right side ... 😒
