  1. THIS part is exactly the part that makes the jackpoints strong! Also when you put the car on a 2 post lift! Lots of people do this wrong because they don't trust that part you are refering to! The middle part in this beam makes it very strong, so strong you can lift your car with a jack without a problem.
  2. @Bart Hoedemaker read the above before welding in a new floor Bart, so only spotwelds not long closed welds on the beams.
  3. Nope.. never seen .. smelled.. or tasted.. 😭 Maar wij hebben Venco! (we have Venco) 👍
  4. I think it's overkill.. 1,0 to 1,4 mm steel is more than enough, i had to remove a floor that was made of much to thick steel.. when i took it out some 25 kg of steel fell to the floor.. i replaced it with 1mm steel and the car got a bit faster! Also... never weld steel over some old steel it will always create a mountain of rust!! Always weld head to head.. so: 1 not necassary.. 2 much to heavy (= slower car.) 3 covering is asking for rust.. (Weld some steel IN it not OVER it!) 4 If done on the front, you take out the crumple zone.. you create a even more dangerous car to drive.. I once seen a car that had those fat beams in the front (over the front wheels), It's dangerous to do because if you have an accident the crumple zone is... the place were you are sitting... not a nice thought!
  5. Ehmmm... what is wintergreen? some sort of soap? I always use washing powder and get reasonable results..
  6. Just don't go to occarpets.com they throw you a 2 seater carpet eventhough you ordered a 2+2.... a er se holes.. And i assumed they had send... all the way to europe ... a good set.. and after half or a hole year i was to late to return it and they did'nt do anything (So i learned to: ALWAYS CHECK THE PARTS WHEN THEY COM IN!) I asked for a 2+2 280zx set and got a 2 seater carpet.. nice! but way to small.
  7. The one with the single dot is a "misprint" the other dot just fell "into the groove".. (Haha..madonna!!) 😂 I don't know why it has 2 dots.. maybe someone wanted to give their nuts and bolts this so they can recognize their own bolts and screws? (or maybe they are extra hard or strong..)
  8. It isn't phiLLips.. It's a JIS.. see: That Phillips-head screw isn't what you think it is - Hagerty Media It took me also a lot of years to GET that! These days i have the apropriate screwdrivers in house and it's just a better fit! (I thought i just say this , because we are nitpicking anyways here.. haha 🙊) NICE article from Hagerty, well explained. 👍
  9. I'm sure .. i never would take that apart.. sand it a bit and paint it.. look what it looks like after 50 years! It's never gonna brake.. It can work another 50 years this way. (can get dangerous to take springs apart.. i would not risk it.)
  10. In fact what your saying is they are to small (diameter)? What brand is it.. they should make it a bit bigger.. (Complain about it!) If i ever needed to glue them i use some black window/glass sealer IN the rubber.. other ways it gets a mess fast.. 3M has 2 types (I believe.. not sure of it is 3M but at my painter) i had 2 sorts of black stuff.. one hardens and one does not..
  11. Ah, that kind of cover.. i was thinking of a kind of plastic cap like a 280zx has.. (a 280zx has even (foot/cabin) lights in it.)
  12. Not a belt... a chain, and as it's very flexible (in your pic i can see it's bend a bit sideways..) tells me you need a new distribution set..
  13. Eh.. i never seen a cover for those wires.. i tink? yes on the later 280 but not a 240z? i got an early 71 240z and does not have the cover.. I don't have any idea where to screw it to? If anyone has a cover, i like to see pics.. never seen one....i think?? 🙊
  14. Just thought you also could go for a tripple set of hitachi's (hjg46W's) like @Mike has.. i think .. saw some pics once of a tripple.. Maybe that inlet manifold has a bit more room and you have the benefit of 3 carbs!
  15. Just some info then.. i got overhere a orig. L24 from a euro 240z and has NO valve relief pistons.. maybe in the states but i don't think that's right.. Back to the '72.. 😉 Did your engine have a turbo on? then your c.r. will be much to low for normal aspiration system engine i think.. (sorry not my speciality so i now shut up 😉 unless the engine didn't work with the turbo because of a to high c.r.) Maybe someone with that knowledge can chim in.
  16. And your sure those Mikuni's will fit the engine with that exhaust manifold?
  17. Yes, that could be.. My 240z dash is gone but i surely could use the jelly on my 280zx dash to keep it in perfect condition! thanks again!
  18. I can... so you should be able too. (in the middle do a click, sometimes it switches to a other pic..) btw.. the 2 oil holes between the cyl.3 and 4 ... one looks blocked that's a bad thing! Also the 1st cyl exhaust valve appear to lay a bit low/deep into the head.. investigate.. (new seal maybe needed?)
  19. Petroleum jelly on the dash?? tell us about that... i never heard of it.. i never heard a good (read: cheap!) solution for a cracking or cracked dash.. Mine (240) has a cracked dash with a cracked dashcover on it ! Hahaha... 🤣 that's what you get after 51 years.. Although my 280zx that was all it's time in the Dutch weather and warm garage.. it's dash is pristine! (after 43 years)
  20. If the coolant does not come out after removing the bolt.. hit it with a ice pic!!... or something 😉 (often lot of dirt in there..)
  21. I think it's more of a dent.. you can take that out with a small pulling hammer and a (self made sharp 180 degrees chisel hooking into it). The metall looks like it's chromed when you zoom in.. but it should be stainless all the way... i think?? So after pulling the little dent you should be able to clean it up easely with some steel wool 000 (very fine) and then some polish.
  22. Isn't that a coolant outlet bolt? just take out that bolt and put some liquid sealant on the threads and put it back in a cleaned threaded hole.. easy.. (Don't know if this is the coolant outlet but these blocks have one maybe someone had a leak there and decided to drill it out and but a bolt in it.. ) Let us know what it was.. (I think normally the coolant outlet bolt to drain the engine is bigger than the one on the pic.)
  23. Nicely done! I wish i could play the guitar like that! wow!
  24. 18 years! (Is that "awhile?) Re-tap to 1 size bigger if possible (metric prefered as most is metric) or recoil it. Or if there is enough dept, make the hole deeper and extent the thread and use a longer bolt! 🙂 If the bolt is M5 you use a drill 0,8 times 5 = 4,0 mm ( M6 is 6 x 0,8 =4,8 or 4,5 if you don't have 4,8mm) You could weld it shut and re-drill/tap but that's a specialist's work.. I would use a good recoil.
  25. It should be called BVA-"veiling" but we dutchies like a bit of english to do popular! "popyjoopies" 😉 BVA auctions is a Dutch "veiling"site. I knew only 1 car that had that option (sunroof) .. it had 2 glass pieces but no lighting at all. just a satin black cover (flat) for as far i can remember.. i think that is a good solution for you.. and if you find a original lighting armature you can always go back.. but i don't think you find that any time soon. 😢 Datsun 280Z Sport Coupé 169pk 1976, 88-YD-81 - BVA Auctions - online veilingen (bva-auctions.com)
