I think there are always things to improve on any (hobby) car but i have a small "still to do" list of things.. One is the rear carpet and upholstery stuff.. As my upholstery guy is a busy man and i'm not afraid of trying to do it myself i got to it. this is terrible.. the old part... cleaning! Much better.. new upholstery by... me! Cleaned the box. Next part.. cleaning was enough. Good to go! Rear part.. not bad for a first time .. The end result. (I installed the original (!) 41 years old carpet here!!) The radio and cassette deserve some extra attention/explaining in a 280zx.. these are the ones that where put in the Euro version (1979 in this case) a radio from clarion in mono, speaker in the dash ( mid.top ) For the cassette player in this case a Clarion unit. But can also be a Hitachi? I think i have seen both.. The cassette is in stereo.. The speakers are in the back near the rear seats .. So funny, you can play the radio and cass. simultaniously! Working on some rims of 45 years old now.. tested 8 of them on a balancer and they were good to go.. to the sandblasters.. (me again... haha) (The 9th rim was a bad one and just in the pic (lower one) for to show the difference!) Lower one has some damage.. maybe i could weld some alu in but i got 8! good rims.. so don't think i'll do that in the near future.. Years ago i bought a analzer for a datsun.. in a very nice condition, don't know how it works, think i need another extender so i can check a 280zx EFI system.. i got 2 extenders type: j25400-12 and i have done some investigating and need another one.. the number of that on is escaped me... A real electronic guy always want to take a look inside hey.... @Captain Obvious Here the extender... wrong one.. (for a datsun 280zx.) No idea were these go.. Since the first of July drove about 500 km's with the 280zx and i must say it drives very well, there are always things to improve and one is the idle speed of it. When cold it's 1000-1200 rpm and go's to 600-750 rpm depending on how hot the weather is and how warm the engine is.. but there is to much difference so i think i'm going to put in some new sensors and maybe even check (the computer) for old capacitors and such.. It never stalled on me but it was sometimes close with just 500-550 rpm's. (It could ofcourse also just be a bad connection on one of the sensors.. It's parts under the hood are all 41 years old and i take my had off for it doing so well!

How to inspect an l28 engine for purchase
dutchzcarguy replied to User0945's topic in Engine & Drivetrain
The L28 is i think the most wanted z engine at the moment (of the L series), also a reliable engine. Over here i would buy it in a flash! For that price, only a good gearbox is more expensive than that! You plan to rebuild it.. if it was stored dry and sometimes turned and oiled.. it is very possible to NOT rebuild it. also.. nobody can look straight through the engine or gearbox, so it's always a gamble. Look for damage and wear, a bad cam says a lot of miles and a expensive rebuild.. -
Observation - Google, Youtube, the omniscient...
dutchzcarguy replied to Zed Head's topic in Open Chit Chat
Hahaha... same here... I also very much like the ads for car battery's after i just bought one... ughh.. ? -
Btw there IS a relais and some contacts in that schematic.. contacts left and relais coil in top mid.. get yourself an electrician who understands car electrics
-
Don't sell the bear before you have killed one... is a dutch saying i thought about when reading your trouble.. 3 things.. first make pics and second make pics and third... do i need to say?...
-
It would really surprise me when that came out of any Z... (maybe it lay in the trunk, but not a nissan/datsun part.) Aren't that in fact two peaces? ? Maybe a giant doorcard clip hihi...
-
Does anyone have a pic of a not yet disassembled light switch? (because that's what you need ? )
-
Next time... make... as we all should do before disassemble..... MAKE PICTURES! ? At first it looks simple but then you .... no... I procrastinate... ! haha and a week or 3 later i assemble, boy do i need those pic's Hahaha...

Nissan is very good seal.. i also used elring from germany. for my L28 rear it's 80x100x10 = elring 546941 i asume the L24 and L26 have the same diameter.

I "cleaned"my 280zx engine last week (and failed.. it needs a brush and polish..) but after i cleaned it with water from the hose i had some water in the connector on that little box which sits on the throttle shaft and i had an engine that did what yours is doing.. it idled well but i could not get it over 1500-1700 rpm's.. maybe your little box on the throttle shaft is "kaputt"

i used a sort of pinstripe brush.. a small brush with long hairs and just a few hair.. did'nt work well. the bison silverglue was very liquid.. never tried masking it.
-
Yeah.. i got those also sometimes.. (I just asked someone here on "a sort of graigslist" we have here in Holland.. about some rims he's selling if this ad is for 4 or 2 ? AND do they come with the covers? He ofcourse replied: there are only 2. greetings.. I replied with.. (sorry ,short fused today?) Reading IS difficult hey? i guess i can forget those rims HAHAHAHA...
-
Just wanted to ad.. i had 5! rear windows for my 280zx and i installed the one with the lowest ohms.. it was if i remember correctly around 2,2-2,4 ohms.. (incl. 0.2 ohms for leads) The one i installed worked on every line! so i think the total resistance of your 240z def.grid should be around 2-2.5 ohms.. Long ago i used some bison silverglue on a grid but did'nt like it.. very difficult to put on and not make a mess haha..
-
Come on.. a few.. 24? holes i weld them in 15 min. and some grinding in another 15 min.. thats half an hour.. (Those old rusty mountingholes are to wide anyway so they need attention anyway.. ?)
-
Haha.. yeah dealer add-ons, VERY UGLY add-ons if i may say.. and one can wait for a lot of rust behind those ugly things! My view.. it's damn ugly and rust inducing.. (Just my opinion!)

@240zadmire You got us some pics of the whole car? (Or did i miss something somewhere?)
-
You did it Again!!... you put a smile on my face and i laughed out loud more than once, but telling my ....yada yada yada... no... i'm (as i asume you don't know )home alone and at the moment more than disabled.. (at the moment a Hernia.. i could barely walk, now it's luckely a bit better.. ) Oh.. let it go.. the paintjob is not perfect, so what.. nothing is.. I drive a 300zxtt a very clean nice paint car, you'r scared to park it on a lot, scared it gets dented by a cardoor.. i got a 240z with... sorry but what we call here an american paintjob.. (the red paint is so thick layered it filled the rain edge .. you know where the rain comes of the roof) and i once backed it up into my garage.. a bit speedy... and i hit some rims with the side of the 240z... it's still visible! I don't care because i know it needs a paintjob anyway.. i had more problems with the fact i scratched those rims! (red paint on them! the 1st of july my 280zx got a Dutch MOT (APK) and i drove the fresh car/paintwork backup against a GoldWing! My own one! It has a very nice paintjob but now it has a little dent after 1 day!! I let it go... i don't care (grr.. i don't care i tell myself.... LET IT GO!!! )
-
Yup.. orange peel can easy be taken out by buffing. These days, lots of cars have it.. (My 280zx go's to the painters for some buff work and a few dust particles, the paint is hardend now after 2-3 month's.)
-
now you did'nt...? (could;nt help my self..?) btw, you can buff till your weigh an ounce.. it won't go i think.. it's in the underlaying structure.. just my op.
-
Top tip! Or your mailadres. (a extra one you dedicate to these things.) I have'm on my wheels... just kidding... ?
-
Haha.. even that you Screwed up! Haha... JUST KIDDING..!! ? I found it very special... Ah ... no paintjob is perfect.. let it go.
-
We posted at the same time.. both talking about the 0.7 mm diff.. haha.. I once put a E30 (No not E31) A E30 head on my L24.. That gives you some compression hahaha long time ago but i remember the starter had trouble starting it! Did'nt drive very well.. few days later i blew the gasket out haha.. still learning hey...

These are NOS (new old stock) 240z original L24 pistons, they have no indents.. these are 1 mm oversize Later on i red that they also fit L26 blocks.. (New pistonset.. in stock still. just 30+ years of dust and some lube on them..) I also have a 1973 complete engine, so i could measure the diff. between those orig. and 1973 pistons, there should be a difference of 0.7 mm!
-
I've got a new set of original nissan oversize pistons still in stock and i don't recall they have those indents for the valves.. (i think pics of them are on page1-2 of my 280zx slick roof 1979 restauration topic) Also the "Ampco" tells me it's not stock? AMP00 is Ampco and the symbol is the NISSAN sign! ampco made these pistons for nissan i assume.. I'm almost sure i never seen pistons for z cars with the indents in the piston! So NOT OEM.
