With an old bolt and some nuts you can easely make a adjustable one from a non-adjustable one..

280zx 1979 2+2 slick roof restauration
Last week i did a bit of pain(t)work on the engine.. 🙂 But first some old pics, not bad after a good clean, a lot of paint is still on the engine. As this engine has only 120k Kms on it it was sufficient to take all the seals out and leave the pistons and crank in the block. (it would be very unneccessary work if i had taken it out.. as the oil was now after 1000+ kms after the restore still pellucid/transparant. After a good clean (before sanding) i discovered a big number on the block.. i have no idea what it's doeing there.. Painted block L28 N42 Zinc painted sump .. (it was a combi of first a layer of zinc and then some charcoal paint, it was a bit much so i rolled the paint what gave me this effect..) The sump was in very good condition, all bolt holes where OK. As cork seals are not very good i used liquid sealer on the sump.. Intake manifold also ready for install. Throttle valve ready for install.. Next time a complete engine on a stand.. 🙂

Steering Wheel Refreshing
oh yes it is the fake wood variety. it's made of glue and wood powder .. sort of.. I took one apart in 2007 and it can be very sharp on the edges, it's fake wood.

Putting in a replacement L-28
You can make one out of a inner tube of a car tire! I used those on more than one occasion. Ah.. it's from the aircon. thats why i had never seen it..

Putting in a replacement L-28
Nice work Ferg! I'm almost that far with my 280zx.. A leveler for taking out (and in) was a good buy i think. You can level the engine much more precise. What is that big copper? bottle with the 2 copper tubes on the right inner fender for? oil catch can?? i've never seen such thing..

Z's on BAT and other places collection
It must be fotoshop.. of the 240z striping and "240z" letter and numbers.. I think the owner was just looking with fotoshop how the "sporty lines " look on his car and unintentionally used those pics in the auction.. the wrong left side.. The right RIGHT side..

Good place to advertise my '77 280z 2+2 project
Right, thats why i wanted one, just for daily drive.. As the dutchies are the tallest people in the world.. (i'm 6foot 4 about...) i prefer the 2+2 because there is just a bit more room behind the wheel.. I never sat in a s30 2+2, i do fit in a 240z s30 though.. ones i sat in a s130 2 seater... i did'nt fit because of the high seats i think the re was not enough room for my big head.. 😮

oil pan side piece
Wow.. i did this last saterday on my L28 and i used a liquid sealer to seal the pan.. Also torqed the little bolts with just 10-15 Nm as they don't need much and you can indeed distort the pan easely. I did ask myself what it was now i know! Thanks!!

Waving Voltmeter
I assume you have it on the bench just connected to a battery? and when you connect the fuel meter it starts bouncing? then that meter is faulty.. does the fuelmeter normally work when in the car? (i assume your fuelmeter is not connected to anything when on the bench?) I would look for another set of meters and test it..

Cabin heater RAISES temperature gauge?
Yeah, most people don't realise that a elec fan to replace a standard mechanical clutch fan needs a lot of juice!

Leaking from spark plug sockets
Maybe it's a good idea to use a little bit of coppergrease as anti-seize.. (as copper is a conducting material.) (One could measure the conductance between a plug with and one without some coppergrease and report back here what the difference is! I'm curious what it would be.. measure the resistance with an ohm meter between the foot of the plug (where normally your plugwrench go's) and the enginehead after you have found out what the resiistance from the leads itself is and substract those. Preferably use a micro ohm meter if possible..)

I'm not sure he has a 280z rail.. or the 280zx rail. (As i'm busy with my 280zx engine, have some pics.) Here the 280zx rail.. upper=1982-1983 (i think US version not sure) and lower is 1979 (euroversion.) Here the upper is the 1979 280zx rail... euro version.. i'm sure..

240z 1973 Valve adjustment if my car has a non-stock cam
As it happens i have a reserve 1973 240z engine laying apart at the moment and looked at the cam.. it has a big A on the BACK (!!) nothing else.. Another new old stock cam i have is a so called slalom-cam and has big lobes.. that one has Datsun and a partnumber on it and the word: brown. it was in the 70's a original datsun special cam. (new in box.. what's left of it.. cam is as new..) EDIT: the letter is on the back ofcourse.. not on the front of the camshaft... silly me...

Steering Wheel Refreshing
Could it be that that Z is upside down? you started with the z upside down and took a bit off of the left lower .. ? If i look at a imaginary vertical line the original Z sign is shorter on the upper horizontal line (on the left).. this one is not.. Hope you know what i mean.. Also the foot of the z is normally longer on the right as shown above.. sorry am i nitpicking? 😟

Steering Wheel Refreshing
NICE! I did a simular wheel in mahogany (left pic!!) in 2007 till this day a shiny wheel! I layd 7-8 coats of varnish on it to make a deep shine, you made a nice wheel but i would have made it a bit deeper and not as wide (if you know what i mean.) There are pics of my wheel in another topic about steeringwheels..

2 ! M8 bolts? (front hook.. look carefully at it in the pic.) not enough? it does not weigh a ton! I bet i could lift the whole front of the car on those hooks.. (in fact i did this to reposition a car on my (4post) lift..) and eh.. if i see the questions you ask these last days i think your a guy age 18? and it's your first car?
