Parts Wanted: Trim Clips
With a bit of patience i would make 4 out of plane sheet metall myself! 140 dollar for 4 of those is a bit steep.. As there is welding involved anyway you could make them out of 2 pieces of steel.. then it becomes easy to make, make one lip and another one on top and weld them together on the chassis.. costs? few cents.. just a few hours of creative work! If you have one flatten it and look at the shape it has then copy that, but 2 pieces is even more easy. let us know what you made! ( Pic's !! )

SS Bumpers from Vietnam
Yes.. but there is stainless and there is stainless... In some conditions i have seen stainless that was rusty.. It all comes back to the word: Quality.. And i don't know but lately that is what is failing a lot of times..

1976 280Z Restoration Project
Some noise in the diff is normal.. In the '70's people who had a 240z sayd, it's normal to hear a whine in the rear, i would worry when one day i would'nt hear it! My just restored 280zx has also a bit of noise but it's not very loud and it's probably due to the rubbers in the diff to chassis connection. I get that your diff makes a bit more noise than normal, hope you get it right, just wanted to say that a bit is normal.

240ZBUILTBYME 1971 240z HS-001063 Project Georgia
Haha.. I guess bit by bit is the answer? i never heard of that expression! Ryan, could you do a experiment with the bumpers..? As they are stainless i expect then to go a bit dull after some time.. so as they are not going anywhere, you could do a test.. wrap them up again in the paper and put them in plastic so it's airtight. And leave one part, the rear mid part out.. wash it with ordinary auto wash and dry it and leave it at the air. Then we can see after a year the difference in shiny-ness, i for one would be very curious what the difference will be! (store the set in one and the same room offcourse) I think that there will be quite a difference.. Would be a nice test!

Triple Mikuni Mechanic DFW area?
Your welcome, read a book about carbs and/or take an old one apart and see if you can assemble it again.. Yes i know it takes time to do that but you can later on say you did it yourself! A guru for everything that would be nice hey... In 2001 i took apart a Nissan 300zx non turbo engine, i had to use all the letters in the alfabet for only the connections that where on the intake manyfold!!! Really! My local garage a Nissandealer had f**ked up the engine by testing it with a loose toothbelt.. and then i said, you stay away from that engine, i rebuild it myself.. they said: you can't build that engine! I showed then otherwise! 2 weeks later i had it rebuild, started it up at the Nissandealer (i have a lift at home but as they had broken my car, i told them that theire new lift was MINE for the neccessary days it takes to repair my car. When i started that up, there were 5-6 Nissan tech's around my car looking at a perfect running car! In (around..) 2012 so 11 years later someone called me and asked me if i knew the car with numberplate ZN-5 .. .... I said YES! and i asked how does the engine run.. the answer was very good.. i said him i took it apart in 2001 and assembled it then.. For a short time it was quiet on the other side of the line... you mean that you took apart the engine of my car.. i said yes! And that it was nice to hear that my first Z32 still runs! So.. what i want to say: if you really want something done, with some time and precision you can make a lot happen! BTW.. i just checked my old car and it has still a MOT till december 2021!! NICE !! (We can look it up in a register for all dutch cars!)

$2.75 in N. Alabama
In the 80's we had a prime minister that came with the solution.. for a time there would be extra taxes on fuel.. they called it: "het kwartje van kok" translated the quarter (guilder we had at that time what was 25 cents (about 10-12 dollarcents?) from kok (yes that was his name.. Kok.) and it never was deleted that quarter.. What i also found very nasty was that there was 25 cents of taxes and then taxes VAT over that! It made it extra extra expensive.. No later government has deleted that quarter of KOK at any time.. still paying that.. But hey.. i'm happy i don;t have an airplane.. they fill up and have to pay 6000 euro at least for a tank stop.. (Seen on "the steelbuddies" going to the big apple from germany. (in german and engish partly.)

Triple Mikuni Mechanic DFW area?
There was a time i did'nt understand nothing about Hitachi/SU carbs.. now i think they are easy to tune.. come on i hear you say.. a Mikuni is a bit more difficult, and i agree but when you read a lot about tuning you'll get so far that you, if you take your time you will get there.. (with a bit of help from people who have done this before..) The first thing to do is always.. everything else has to be in good condition.. No air leak in inlet or exhaust. Valves good adjusted. Good ignition spark and on time. Good compression. do always a test in advance. Good fuel, the right fuel. work on a clean engine. And last but not least, ask! There are no dumb questions, only dumb people that don't ask.. haha.. and make pic's lots of pics if you have trouble with something, pics tell more than a 1000 words (Who was that.. telly Savalas.. haha..)

$2.75 in N. Alabama
Ah... nice topic.. the price of gas!! we call it "benzine" overhere.. i do some calc.. One liter of fuel 95 benzine is overhere 1,80 euro... so 1,8 x 3,9 (3,9 liter in a gallon) = 7,02 euro and that's $ 8,42/gallon !! so... haha.. stop complaining.. A tank of fuel in one of my cars is 60 x 1,8 = 108 euro = $129,60 keep smiling! I can't be bothered.. This week i got rid of a lot of weed on my big lawn of around 4 (yes 4!) m2 of grass and i had to pay the bill right away, my body was so upset of it that i did'nt sleep the night after... that tired i was.. So what i want to say is: get over it.. just keep on trucking! 😉

Running super lean off idle
Yep, be sure to make all the checks.. (and use a serv.manual thats what they are for) The day after tomorrow, it was a year ago that you started this thread! I would also get a bit frustrated, but you have to persevere and be precise in what you do. Success, and tell us what you find and pic's tell a thausand words..

Running super lean off idle
Before balancing carbs you have to check all the other variables, you have done that exept a compressiontest. (?) Now i hear you say.. but it's a new rebuild block, yes but people make mistakes. I once asked the same a mercedes driver with a new not working rebuild engine, at first he got a bit angry.. IT'S A NEW ENGINE.. yes i sayd but people make mistakes.. later on it ran and the engine builder had made a woopsie.. my advice is check and double check.. don't assume, just check a list of things that could be wrong. Everyone is blaming the carbs, they could be right but it could be so much other things why the car does not pull.. On the old carbs you have.. rebuild them, use them on your block for testing and later on you can sell those for more than you paid for the rebuild.. you can get rebuild sets easy for them! good luck! Mart.

Coolant and other leaks....
A short word to aluminium radiators and the people who are selling them.. they say it works better than the original.. i doubt that!!.. the original is made of copper and is a much better heat-conductor then aluminum (as you call it 😉 ) One can not expect a 200 dollar aluminum radiator is as good as the original copper one.. I would always prefer the old second hand copper radiator above the alu junk (most are..) radiators that are sold cheap.. My own 240z has a copper one.. in there for more than 22 years.. (posible is it the orig. from 1971.. i don't know..) but if it's gonna leak i have a new one in stock.. or i would repair the old one with a new core im sure!

240Z Distributor Questions
Yep.. I had my 240z 1971 distributor cleaned up 20 years ago and... IT HAD ONLY ONE SPRING IN IT.. May be a modification from Nissan? Could be that there is something in the service bulletins Nissan regularly brought out? ?? I to wondered then why only one spring but i did'nt change it in 2 springs and it ran and runs still with one spring till this day!

What cleaning products are advised to maintain a dash
You wash it first in normal washingmachine detergent.. And if needed you could also use some sunflower oil. 😉

New fuel pump/tank process
I also read that after emptying the tank (in a 280zx and maybe also the 280z because it's the same system) and/or run out of gas you have to fill up the tank at least half way! Otherwise the pump will NOT get any fuel, just wanted to ad that!

Precision seals
And.. TIP! check the seal with a small piece of paper between the hatch and close it.. if you can pull it out very easy.. thats wrong the paper should have some resistance then it seals at that spot! Paper of just an inch width is best to use!
