  1. Hey gang, Am I understanding this correctly? The front diff out of a 720 4x4 will fit the Z housing (R180) and comes in 3.9 or 4.11? How do I tell the ratio? Just looking at what my options are for a lower ratio for when I get mine on the road and 5 speed found and installed. TIA. Dave 71 240, l28 project.

Escalon, No, jusy becauseit is on the internetoes not mean it is FACT and, in more cases than not is incorrect. I have not looked at the fuse box in over a year and thought anything you can do to make the connections more solid would help the problem, did not think about some circuits being hot with the key and others not. I am guessing here, but is ONE side hot all the time or hot only with the key all the time? Perhaps the picture at Z car garage only reflects ONE side of the fuse box...not trying to start another tirade by you, just openig discussion. clearly, we all suffer the same problem wiht the early cars and the fuse box, so hopefully we can find solutions t othe problems...that is the reason for sites like this one, to bring the COLLECTVE knowledge together into dialogue and HELP each other. There is a liquid "electrical tape" that I have used for many applications that works very well at elliminating corrosion on electrical components and wires that have had the insulation worn off of them...I forget the brand but I tink I picked it up at ACE hardware but know that NAPA carries it also. It is really trick and may keep corrosion from reapearing after thoroughly cleaning the connectins and tighening or soldering them. They make really fine solder for electronic components that melts with less volume of heat so as not to destroy circuit boards that might work well after cleaning the terminals. Clean 'em, tighten 'em up, solder them and coat them with clear plasticote or the liquid electrical tape should help the problen if not elliminate it all together. Cheers, Dave 71 240

Just an off the wall thought but...I had a similar problem with a 510, idled fine, stumbled and rough at lower Rs but ran like crazy up above...needed the valves adjusted. They were too tight and it sort of acted like a cam with lots of overlap...just a thought. Dave 71 240

Solering one side makes better connections on that side. If you read the site, he stated if you soldred BOTH sides you would loose the individual fusing capability. The side he suggests soldering is the input side of the fuse box and therefore does not need to be separate. I think he put a lot of thought into the issue. Also, he is showing the bottom of the fuse box, solder on the passenger or input side. Makes perfect sense and is ONE way to help the issue of overheating fuse boxes...IMHO. Z car garage as a pretty good idea for fixing part of the fusebox/wiring problem and you might want to check it out. http://www.geocities.com/zgarage2001/probs.html I have the problem in the rear light circuit but somebody kept putting bigger fuses in and/or something solid and cooked the fuse box alon with all the wires back to the rear...part of the reason mie is still in the prject stage. 6. Having been a viril nd licensed driver when the Z came out and reading both Car and Driver and Road and Track at the time...the wheels were PLASTIC, a very good copy of a wooden wheel but, plastic none the less...there were however numerous real wood wheels available in the aftermarket that were almost identical in appearance...but, the factory ones were plastic. Cheers, Dave 71 240 still a project :classic: PS ZGuy - great refinish on the wheel...how much did you get for it, if I may ask?
  7. Hey Gang, Intriqued by this engine even though I don't have the $$$ to get and install one but...thoughtI would revisit e-bay. The engine didn't sell the first time, went to $1225 from a starting bid of $1000 so the guy relisted it, starting bid $4000! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2409038868 On a more realistic note...what about a Toyota Supra twin cam? I know it is not Nissan but niether are Chevy v-8s...just wondering. Cheers, Dave Paradise, CA 71 240 ProjectLOL

In the 70's the 240Z frequently beet the A Prod Corvettes (427) at Laguna Seca and it as a joy to see...at Riverside however, long straights, the Corvettes would beat the Zs....but not by much! Cheers, Dave Parise CA USA

  10. You are in New Zealand...how prevelat are these Engines in the States? I wonder any of the Japanese importers bring them in? Of course, there would be no class to compete in that you would be competitive, I don't think..although I did have a friend who raced a VW fastback with a 911 Porsch engine in a sports racing class...but it would still be fun on track days and a real sleeper on the stree...definately NOT overkill. Cheers, Dave 71 240 project...

  12. Thanks. DOHC means CROSSFLOW HEAD!!! And turbo...how hard to adapt a 5 speed in place of the auto in the ad? Nt that I have $1500 for an engne...that is more than my entire budget a the moment but...(drooling on the keyboard) turbocharged, DOHC, crossflow head...definately MORE Power. Definately sunds like a great transplant in a Z. Cheers, Dave
  13. Hey gang, so what is tis engne? An inline 2.5 litre six wth turbo? that sounds like great fun, esecially in a Z...more power! Cheers, Dave
