Chris, excellent clarification. Thank you. So is the question then: When did Nissan switch from the chrome z metal emblem to the white z metal emblem? So my 240Z is from 3/70 and it has the white z, metal emblem. How can Arne's 10/70 have the chrome z, metal emblem?

I respectfully think you're wrong on this Chris. This emblem is appropriate for late 1969 to about January - February 1970.

Just saw this on Ebay. The seller is just up the interstate from me. I've always been interested in the early cars. Hard to tell from the pictures what kind of condition this is in. Anybody have any thoughts? Thanks, Koreavet http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-240Z-Early-1970-Emblem-Pot-Metal-Rare_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33643QQihZ017QQitemZ270114880812QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
  4. Did anyone notice that there is a "red dot" 240Z mirror on Ebay? Any guesses on what the final bid will be? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-Early-240Z-Rearview-Mirror-1969-1970-RARE_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33699QQihZ017QQitemZ270033753434QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
  5. Here is an auction for the oval key blanks. So far the price seems reasonable. I've seen them go for much higher. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-240Z-260Z-280Z-Key-Blanks-Genuine-Nissan_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ40016QQihZ017QQitemZ270015104717QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
  6. Hi Jim, Great pictures but I couldn't see some of them. Were they posted properly or is it just my computer? I'm glad to see you have the "red dot" mirror too! http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8383&highlight=red+dot+mirror koreavet

Chris, So does 26th & 27th have the "nichs" for the defroster wires? Anyone else? Jim

For those with low VIN's and no defroster glass - Do you have the holes cut out of the plastic roof finisher for the nonexistent defroster wires? Thanks, Jim
  9. I've seen these euro balance tubes before but this one is different. What is the "OXS" mean that's stamped on the side? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-240Z-Euro-Balance-Tube-RARE-Brand-New-NOS_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ38634QQihZ017QQitemZ270003255999QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW Thanks. Jim

David, You said it man. I really like the WOPS' design of the Webers. The JAPS are only good at copying. Just ask that KRAUT Goertz. Koreavet
  11. My email question to Rick was clear, questioning the status of the purchase of the "Ebay auction for the Datsun 240Z #390, about one month ago". His response was short: " its gone to the great shredder... ". The way I see it, Rick has no motivation to lie. So his response was either an honest error (although my question was clear) or a mean spirited subterfuge. lonetreesteve: Thanks for clearing up the status of #390. For that I feel better.
  12. Just out of curiosity I emailed Rick Bolus at Eurasianperformance on whether or not the winning bidder had followed through with the transaction. He replied back, "It's gone to the great shredder..." What happened?... It's really sad. I guess another one bites the dust.

I think the DMV rejected your proposal not for the combination of the words "JAP JAG", but for the use of the word "JAP". The word "jap" is a racial slur. An analogy would be if you wanted a plate to read, "KRAUT CAR" or "WOPMOBILE" or "NIGGERVAN". Get it?

  15. Enrique: My 1970 has the volume/tone control on the right side like on the Ebay picture. I'm pretty sure that my stock radios for my 1972's and 1973's (cars long gone) had the volume/tone controls on the left side. What I don't understand is that the window for the radio stations is part of the face plate itself. Does this mean that someone took out the window from a later 240Z and put it in a early 240Z face plate? Or was there a period between series I and series II cars that had the old face plate and the new AM/FM radios?
  16. Hi folks, I was searching through Ebay this evening and spotted this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=2479580425&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT Something about this does not look right. I think the back face plate belongs on a 1970 240Z with only the AM radio. I thought the signal searching feature (the markings above the left knob) was not available on 240z's between 1971 - 1973. Am I wrong? Thanks. Koreavet

Before I get nit-picky...It's a very, very nice car. Is the image of the rear hatch reversed or did they rig a double strut assembly? The hub caps look a little too dark. The exterior mirror is not stock. It's hard to tell but is there overspray on the driver side of the dash? What happened to the luggage straps? A well done restoration. If I had the money I'd buy it.
  18. I had a factory 240Z five speed knob several years ago. The knob looked EXACTLY like the four speed knob you pictured, except it showed the fifth gear gate above the reverse. Same wood, dark background, chrome trim... I've seen the 280Z five speed knobs. They have the fake (?) leather, silver numbers and red background. I'm wondering if Mushuprok5 is refering to the 280Z knob?

Just a friendly FYI... Ebay's definition of Transaction Interference: "Members are not permitted to email buyers in an open or completed transaction to warn them away from a seller or item." Ebay's penalties for Transaction Interference: "Disciplinary action may result in a formal warning, temporary suspension, or indefinite suspension." Proceed with caution...
  20. I think they did this because they no longer list a reserve price.

I've contacted the past owner of my 240Z, based on the documentation found in the glove box, (I bought the car from a used car lot) and it turned out to be the original owner (PO). The PO told me of how he had seen the car in a dealer's showroom in February 1970 and fell in love. He knew that the waiting list to purchase a 240Z was months long but aproached the dealer anyway. The dealer said, "I'm getting a bunch of 240Z's delivered to me tomorrow, I could sell you this one". After owning the 240Z for over 20 years the PO sold the car, because of financial problems, to his brother. And after a few years the brother sold it to the used car lot. The PO cleared up many questions about the car that no one else could have. He was also able to recall many of his memories and experiences of that early period that I found facinating. So I wouldn't caution other members "not to do this". It's like everything else in life, you take a few risks for potentially huge gains. Koreavet
  22. From my documentation and experience Datsun had changed the tire size with the introduction of the 280Z in 1975. The 240Z's and 260Z's had 175(H)R-14. The 280Z's had 195/70-HR14. As for the brand, a mix of Bridgstones and Toyos were supplied from the factory. Just a guess but because of the hubcap type involved, I'll bet these are original tires for a 1975 or 1976 280Z. To be sure you could always asked the owner for the date stamps on the tires and wheels. Koreavet
  23. I have my 240Z dash out of the car and I just noticed that I have a 1/8th of an inch crack starting to form at the rear part of the dash behind the three gauge cluster. Is there anything I can do now to stop the crack? I thought I heard somewhere that Ztherapy had a solution. Thanks. Koreavet

From 2ManyZs: 2ManyZs: Are you sure about that? I've got a bunch of 3 screw and 4 screws and I thought the center linkages were all the same. Any differences in the linkages would be between the flat tops and the round tops. The flat tops would have a shorter linkage. seerex did mention that the swap was being done on a 260Z.

What about that movie "One on One" with Robbie Benson. He gets a brand new 280Z, drives it to California, and lets it overheat. A scene shows steam pouring out of the engine compartment with the Robbie Benson character wondering what to do. I wonder if the movie producers really drained some of the coolant, and forced the car to overheat? Probably warping the head.
