1976 280Z Restoration Project
I don't know what to think. The bends are "up" at the same point so it looks like the car was lifted hard or slammed down onto something. No other visible witness marks to anything else. I assume the car had received a rear passenger side impact after discovering the replaced quarter and the dented tank. If the bends were "down" I might have thought it was strapped down too hard onto a low bed or frame rack or something. No real reason for it really.... I plan on trying to restore the sending unit. Other than rust, it doesn't look damaged at all. The tank is looking more and more like a purge, clean, cut apart, repair, weld and seal job to me more and more....

Safety?
I should clarify my previous answer too.... If you were my kid I would do the same as Jonathan above; find a safe reliable daily for you and still purchase/encourage your love of the S30. I am almost 50 and have been in multiple accidents, almost all of them someone else's faults and due to Canadian winter conditions. Some were pretty bad. None in a sports car, luckily. I can agree that the S30 and even my 370Z are fair weather cars. They only go out in nice sunny conditions. The 370 is almost 6 years old and barely has 35,000 km's on it and that is mostly hwy mileage to British Columbia for summer vacation! I daily drive a Lincoln MKX and my wife drives a Hyundai Veloster. The sports cars are for fun and recreation only. Well, the 280Z will be when it's done, !

Then buy it! Better a life a life of "oh well, it was nice while it lasted" versus a life of regret... PS: it took me 30 years to get my Z's too.... I wish I would have bought the first one I saw in high school when I was 17! ..... too broke

Safety?
My two cents: Hi Comet! I bought my 17 yo daughter a 2007 Mustang V6 for a grad present (in 2010). 5spd standard and rear wheel drive open diff... She loved it and learned to respect it. Didnt stop her from getting hit at least twice. Modern cars are so much safer than these classics. If I were you, look for a really nice 350Z for cheap that you can drive and maintain on a daily basis. If you can swing it, pick up the 280 as a project/toy for weekends. You sound like a great kid and I wish you the best of luck!

My Datsun 280Z "Rustoration"
Oh and what shocks came with the coilovers? They're not listed on the JPN garage site

My Datsun 280Z "Rustoration"
What advantage is there in the four bolt other than greater range? Stronger? I would think the extra bolt holes would weaken the strut tower top...

My Datsun 280Z "Rustoration"
Any particular reason you didn't trim the towers?

My Datsun 280Z "Rustoration"
Hey Matt, how did you set your camber on the BC coilovers? Before installation? Can you make adjustments without removing them as I see you didn't cut your strut towers....
