Even just look at the packaging for the mats to see what it is made of and then look up that products fire rating online. No one wants to think of their car burning but in case of an accident I wouldn't want to be in a toxic inferno either...

Does no one else feel that this may be a hazard in case of a fire? Will it melt? Will it burn as an accelerant? Will it give off a toxic gas when it burns? Sorry to be a downer but pretty doesn't replace safe....

Oh my..... Be still my heart! You're killing me! Basically my car in my colour with all the right touches..... It's like a vision of the future!! Thank you thank you thank you!
  4. All good info guys! Post up pics of the products before and after installation as you go along with your impressions. Dollar for dollar, it seems like the TTT rear kit with ebrake is a pretty good deal at $900 all included.

After surviving a long painful weekend of the flu, I actually managed to get a little work done last night. I finished draining the fuel tank and then PB Blasted all of the associated mounting hardware to let that soak a day. Looked around a t the associated parts and pieces I had laying out and decided to reassemble the front grill after I had straightened and repaired all of the individual pieces. I left it in primer to keep it fresh for painting later. The nuts and washers for the grille are so tiny I don't know if I would have found replacements if I lost them! Removed the nuts of the shock towers and decided to remove the front suspension as a whole with crossmember attached. Blasted the nuts on the frame to loosen them up and I will attempt to remove it as a set this weekend. Just need to disconnect the sway bar and it should just drop right out!

, the quotes around here are around $250 for a boil and red-kote so I will probably do this myself, just for fun! I won't be mounting it or driving the car for a year or two so I think it will be good to go by that time!

Let him play. If this is the only way he blows his money on misspent youth, then I say it's time and money well spent! A good learning experience that will feed his passion for cars in the future. I'm not saying the end result is going to be that he has a safe, well restored vehicle. The end result may well be the development of his welding and car repair skills that will serve him well on the next more viable project. Looking back, I blew a lot of money on crazier things as a kid....
  8. Don't get me wrong. I'm sure the rear drums are more than adequate for my needs... It's my wants that are not being met! Same reason the billet mustache bar will be replacing the stock steel unit. Gotta have a little flash!

I didn't ask about door skins! Leather?

Interior Innovations seems to very accommodating in regards to customizing a seat whichever way you want for a reasonable price. I will be going with them eventually. Full leather with perforated inserts and colour matched stitching.
  11. A bias valve and little road testing can dial that in.... I'm partial to the look of the brakes on my 370Z. I guess and would like to duplicate that look again. Nice and clean!

I would still walk away from this one I think, but like Patcon, I am rooting for you to prove me wrong and save this frame!

Thanks Taka! PM or text me the cost (for the service and the Line X) if you remember. Might help me decide which way to go. BTW, what brake system did you go with front and rear? Techno Toy?
  14. For reference, this is my starting point...
  15. I have seen that kit and like the simplicity, just wish the caliper was beefier...
  16. Thanks for the feedback guys! I will be doing a complete restoration of the whole car so the brake work is minimal compared to all else. My stock system in the rear is all but missing so rather than replace the drums and internal hardware, it is more sensible in the long run to just get the discs for both performance and looks. And if I'm doing the rears... the fronts should match!
  17. A search of the forum didn't bring up a definitve answer on what people are recommending for a rear/front aftermarket disc brake setup for the 280Z. I am looking for a 'street' functional setup that will look and perform well. I would like to go with a performance look like the Wilwood or Brembo caliper and reatin the rear parking brake functionality. I understand this will probably necessitate the use of larger wheels too. Please post up your personal choices and reasons why. I like the TTT rear kit but the front looks a tad too aggressive for me. I'm thinking of something along the lines of the rear 300ZX kit with a better caliper. Thoughts?
  18. I wonder if there would be enough interest in having multiple lens options? Maybe a clear set and a smoke set? Or yellow etc..... I think I would be interested in a smoke and clear set. Maybe even "race" set of block offs!

hmmmm.... but I wonder about the FIREwall portion of that design! Isn't it supposed to be a heat/flame retardant layer? That looks somewhat more flammable/toxic in case of fire.

I'll look into that too. Might be easier/cheaper than buying the POR kit. I can do the outside myself.
  21. 2nd generation 5 speed with a 3.90 R200. That should do it!

That turned out pretty nice Chas!

I had to whack the fuel pump a few times back in the spring before it would pump, but the car fired right up and ran perfect on that crappy fuel... wow! Blows my mind....
