Media blasting doesn't help with the undercoating, it just bounces off. I will blast the stripped body in my shop. I have a 60 Gal 5HP too....

The undercoating is already coming off from the engine bay and fender wells... the underbelly is awaiting me tho....

Mine is scraping off fairly well. Big chunks in places, stuck fast in others. I read about the dry ice method and heat gun too. So far a hand scraper and an oscillating putty blade have worked well. Just takes time.... It's the tight corners and edges that are a pain regardless.

Plastic wheel to strip the paint without harming the metal. That is of course AFTER all the tar is gone...
  11. Was just thinking that a good PDR person could remove those door dings easily....

Most good hardware/tool stores sell letter and number punches. Not a big issue to have done at a good garage either probably. I have a set at work for marking weapons and sights etc. (military)

Maybe I should order a 77 one! My car will be a resto-mod anyways.... not going to be original by any stretch!

Got more of the firewall cleaned off last night. Still need to bleed off the brake lines and remove the hard lines so I can pull the clutch and brake booster off. Cleaned most of the tar matting off too. The PO had redone the floor pans in a tarry gooey substance that was fun to remove. Even shot a little copper slag at the firewall and tunnel to see how well it cleaned up. Not sure if I'll blast the interior or a combination of blasting and Strip Eaze (plastic fibre wheel) with the grinder.

I hear you... However in the big scheme of things, my complete restoration is going to cost me so much, I will regret not having the proper engine plate. And one that I can stamp with the correct VIN and engine serial number too! Not sure if I should get two though for when I swap the engine from the stock block to the built block.... arrrgh
  16. That's a nice looking car right there....

Same boat here... no engine bay plate. I think there is a link somewhere to a supplier though... I will look!

There's a video of it earlier in the thread. It is a home made unit that a friend built for his 280. Not perfect but still very functional. I will mod it a bit I think to balance the car a bit better.

Wow! Very impressed! Looking forward to the day I am at the same stage with the same colour paint!
