Deja Vu: 1971 Restoration
It's amazing! I don't think I would be able to get any sleep. I'd be on a regimen of Ritalin and pulling all nighters 'till I was done.

'77 280 wiper question
Capn': I thought they were ferrous because a magnet does stick to them. I guess I was wrong. Site: The wiper blades with the "wire style" frame are not from a 77 or 78 280. The 280s in those years had a solid holder for the blade. The wiper arms themselves are the same as earlier Zs I think, and you can interchange the blade holder you like best. Since I prefer the wire style holder I went with those and stored my solid, black originals. What I stripped and clear coated was the arms. '77 280 wiper question
Mine are the wiper arms that came with the car (pretty certain they're the original '78 wiper arms) and they're definitely not SS. Thanks for the compliment on the car. It's always nice to be appreciated by the forum bros.

'77 280 wiper question
I used a matte clear coat after removal of the black paint on mine It's important that the wipers don't reflect light onto your eyes. I don't have a closeup of the clear coated wipers but you can see the finish if you zoom in on the pic.

Windshield Washer Reservoir
Nice job. Now spread some hair bleach paste all over it, wrap it in Saran wrap and set it out in the sun for a day or two and it'll be nice and white.

Retro Sound Install
In my attempt to make the Retrosond radio faceplate in my 280Z look more OEM I failed at finding an engraver to place the lettering directly on the plate but did find an ID badge company that was willing to make 2 small nameplates that will mimic the effect. I copied the "Fasten Seat Belts" alert font (Arial) and had them engrave 3/16" silver letters on a very thin black badge (1.25" x 0.25") at a cost of $8. The badges have adhesive backing and although they don't look absolutely perfect in the close up pic, I think they will look great once placed over the knobs on the faceplate considering the distance at which the radio lies from the driver and passenger. I haven't installed them yet but heres a pic of the faceplate and the badges.

Me & My Z - 45th Anniversary
Great life experiences that incorporate your Z in so many ways. Wonderful read. I always regretted selling my 77 after 4 years of wonderful ownership and 30,000 miles of experiences that drove me to want another Z in recurrent dreams for many years until I found my '78 a few years ago. Thanks for sharing and allowing me to imagine all that I missed. Keep racking up stories for the 50th anniversary! Take care Goose. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G925A using Classic Zcar Club mobile

Revised Stereo Install
I think you will be very pleasantly surprised with the sound quality from the Polk Audio speakers however, fitting them in with the Boom Mat took some squeezing.

Revised Stereo Install
I changed my stereo setup because I was unsatisfied with the sound coming from the underdash speakers I had previously installed. I dumped these and installed a set of Polk Audio 5.25" DB522 coaxial speakers in Derek's kick panel speaker pods. I also substituted the Miura amplifier I had placed behind the Retrosound Radio for a much higher quality Kenwood KAC-M3004. It is slightly larger than the Miura but it's still relatively hidden under the carpet over the transmission hump (see pics). Additional to the front Polk Audio speakers I have Infinity Kappa 4" coaxial speakers under the quarter windows in the stock position for speakers in the 280Z and Infinity Kappa 6x9" speakers (wired only as woofers with the tweeters disconnected) in the re-upholstered MSA speaker box in the rear deck. I installed Boom Mat soft speaker baffles behind all 6 speakers. It's arguably the best sounding car system I've had. The circle identifies the amplifier location, with a slight bump on the carpet. The crossovers have been disconnected and only the base baffles are wired to the amp, rendering the rear Infinity Kappa 6x9s as very effective woofers. I also did some work on the Retrosound radio faceplate by adding a ABS overlay with the same texture as the OEM Datsun center console material and chrome pinstriping. I'm still searching for someone who will laser engrave the letters on the faceplate to further mimic the original. The USB remote ports are in the glovebox and in the center console. I tried to make everything look as stock as possible even though the MSA rear deck enclosure is quite obvious (but supplies the bass). The front kick panel speaker pods are a truly excellent product (shout out to Derek for amazing work) and are greatly responsible for the improvement in sound. All the different components are nicely balanced.

Nice Guy, Nice Car (240dkw)
Actually the horn sounds "eh? eh? eh?" As in "Canadian, eh?"

Attaching exterior mirror ( just the mirror ) to the plastic inside mirror
Beware: Given time, some silicone sealers will discolor the mirror backing . There are specific sealers for mirrors which won't discolor the finish.

My Datsun 280Z "Rustoration"
I did a bunch of work to get the faceplate supplied by Retrosound to look more like the 280Z original. I'm still planning to have the letters laser engraved above each knob but haven't found a local shop that will do it. That's a very valid point. Only the front and rear speakers are being pumped through the amplifier. The rear Infinity Kappa 6x9 speakers are being used strictly as "subwoofers" and the middle 4" Infinty Kappas are wired directly off the head unit (bypassing the amp). Playing with the gain and crossover settings the system sounds amazing. I'll go into a little more detail once I write it up this weekend.

My Datsun 280Z "Rustoration"
HaZmatt, I just finished me stereo install with those 5,25" Polk Audio speakers in Derek's pods up front and have the same Retrosound head unit. Since I'm also running 4" Infinity Kappas under the quarter windows and 6 x 9 Infinity Kappas in the MSA rear housing I had to add a Kenwood amp. I'll take some pics tomorrow and post that set-up because it really is the best sounding stereo I've had in any car. You're gonna love those Polk Audio in the front!
