  1. Yes, tis quite reminiscent.....except I agree with you completely! Six weeks full time may be a little excessive, but it does need a significant amount. Maybe they could incorporate it into schooling.....say as something you can do instead of sport. I got my boat licenece through school that way, so why not driver training as well? Just an idea, how about students start out learning with their parents (or O licenced driver) as they do now, and then when they feel comfortable with the basics of driving a car around, then they start the advanced driving course. When they can pass such a course, and the usual sort of test, then they can get their licence. Sound fair? I'm sure there'd be plenty of whinging as it would make obtaining a licence much more difficult, and probably more costly, but hey, it should be a privelidge, not a responsibility. While we're at it, all drivers that currently licenced should have to do the advanced course and pass it, or have their licence revoked. Of course you'd have to give everyone a year or so in which to do this (maybe more). I could bet if they took some drastic measures like this, then the death toll on our roads would drop significantly. Thoughts?
  2. You know what, I agree with you Rick, that 17 year olds (some exceptions of course) aren't mature enough to make the right decisions, not with the current level of driver training anyway. I think with some real driver training, and some REAL testing, ie more than just checking to see if you can park and use your inicators, then 17 year olds could potentially be released onto the road and be reasonably safe. You also have to consider the problems that such a limit would cause. For example limited employment oportunities for under 19 year olds.
  3. Mostly! One of the other engineers that lived on campus also had a 260Z 2 seater. I rememeber quite a few mornings where he'd drive round to engineering, one passenger in the front, hatch open and three in the back, legs dangling out. *Mind you, it was all of a 200m drive.
  4. ....unless they were given some real training, off public roads. Bout time they made driving a privelidge, not a right.

A C10 of some form, 2 door, 4 door, whatever I can get my hands on, is definitly on my wish list. Shame they're so rare. I imagine they weren't sold here right? Where were they brought to aus from?
  6. Wont happen, not in that form anyway. Yet another way for the government to avoid implementing some real driver training (and yes I realise it's no easy task).

Congrats! Awesome buy! I'm jealous. Can you post up some more photos of it when you get it home?

Skimmo has just had the dash for one of his 240s done by them and it looks great. Judging by the grain of the material it's done with, I'd say mine was also done by them.

Zedrally has a good point about the legality of different sized rims/tires. Mickie B: Keep in mind 225s on a 7" rim is about as big as you'll fit under the stock zed guards. Say a 8" rim with a 245 or maybe even a 255 would be quite fat and should fill out the flares well. I don't know that you could fit the extra 3" worth of a 10" wheel under the flares. Also, these cars do REALLY stick to the road with a good set of 225s.....so sat 255s would be plenty. When I get my car running again I'll take you for a spin if you like.

I think you'd wanna go a good bit wider than 6" on the front. From what I've seen these cars seem to handle best with similar sized rubber front and rear. Do some research, see what size rim/tire combos are being used by those with flares.

I've just come from having a look at this KE10 and I must say it might just be a goer. It's not too bad, but will need some work. Mechanically it's pretty good, 50000km on a rebuilt 2K. Body is straight other than one shallow dint in the roof. There is some rust spots in the panels, but nothing bad. They'd be very easy to fix. No rust in the chassis or floor pan (easy to see as it has no sound deadening under the car). Interior will need some major work though. Top of the dash is well and trully gone, but the face of the dash, all gauges and steering wheel are perfect. Seats are shagged and roof lining is shagged. New tires on it too. He had in in the paper for $500 and had no takers, so chop that down a little and I recon he'd go for it.

Ohh! Love the KE25's, or in that case TE27. That's my pick of all the Corollas. Pretty damn rare though. There was one that was advertised here once at a good price. Turned out to be just a KE20. That Datsun 2000 would also be awesome to have. I'm always on the lookout for obscure old cars up here, but really haven't found anything.

Nah I missed that one. This one is owned by a mate of a mate. Interior has seen better days, but mechanically it's good, with a rebuilt motor. I just have to check the condition of the body. They rust just as badly as our good ol Dattos.

One day! I have my eyes on a KE10 Corolla here that's up for sale. Most people just can't understand why I'd want to restore a car like that though.

Ohhh! 410 wagon! If that were up here somewhere I'd snap it up in seconds. I've been looking to get my hands on a 410 for some time now. Does anyone know just how rare they are?

I do believe Mickie does have some flares for the zed. I'm not quite sure how wide you can go with the flares though.

For a mates 240Z. Doesn't have to be perfect, just as long as it's in reasonable condition. PM me here, email somewhatodd at mac.com Thanks, Justin

Gema: Sorry to hear it. I know the feeling all too well, as a very similar thing happened with my zed car. Basically one chassis rail was broken into three pieces, dodgily repaired, bogged over then sprayed with sound deadener so it all looked good. One month into ownership of my zed the 'repair' broke as I was braking to avoid a kid that rode out in front of me. VERY lucky no one was hurt in that incident. My advice..... If you do decide to repair it, make sure it's done by someone with experience in restoration of cars, not just the local panel shop.
